Ian Campbell 67c7e46c7c xen: arm32: reduce default size of the xenheap
... and make it tunable via the command line.

1/8 of RAM is 128M on a 1GB system and 256M on a 2GB system etc,
which is a lot. 1/32 of RAM seems more reasonable. Also drop the
minimum to 32M.

Leave the maximum at 1GB.

Ian Campbell f01af57300 dt-uart: use ':' as separator between path and options
',' is a valid character in a device-tree path (see ePAPR v1.1 Table
2-1), in fact ',' is actually pretty common in node names.

Using ',' as a separator breaks for example on fast models. If you use
the full path (/smb/motherboard/iofpga@3,00000000/uart@090000) rather
than the alias then earlyprintk gives:

(XEN) Looking for UART console /smb/motherboard/iofpga@3
(XEN) Unable to find device "/smb/motherboard/iofpga@3"
(XEN) Bad console= option 'dtuart'

I actually noticed this on Jetson where the uart is
"/serial@0,70006300" and there happened to be no alias defined.

Instead use ':' as the separator, it is defined to terminate the path
in the context of /chosen/stdout-path (Table 3-4) which is pretty
closely analogous to the dtuart= option and so makes a pretty good
choice (especially since the next patch adds support for stdout-path).

Since no DT aware driver current supports any options there is no
point in retaining support for ',' for backwards compatibility.

Additionally, expand the buffer for the dtuart option, a path can be
far longer than 30 characters (in fact the maximum size of a single
node name is 31, so it's not even necessarily enough for an alias).
128 is completely arbitrary and allows for paths at least 8 deep even
with worst case node names.

Paul Durrant dd94caca53 x86/viridian: add Partition Reference Time enlightenment
The presence of the partition reference time enlightenment persuades newer
versions of Windows to prefer the TSC as their primary time source. Hence,
if rdtsc is not being emulated and is invariant then many vmexits (for
alternative time sources such as the HPET or reference counter MSR) can
be avoided.

The implementation is not yet complete as no attempt is made to prevent
emulation of rdtsc if the enlightenment is active and guest and host
TSC frequencies differ. To do that requires invasive changes in the core
x86 time code and hence a lot more testing.

This patch avoids the issue by disabling the enlightenment if rdtsc is
being emulated, causing Windows to choose another time source. This is
safe, but may cause a big variation in performance of guests migrated
between hosts of differing TSC frequency. Thus the enlightenment is not
enabled in the default set, but may be enabled to improve guest performance
where such migrations are not a concern.

See section 15.4 of the Microsoft Hypervisor Top Level Functional
Specification v4.0a for details.

Don Dugger 10e7747bca VT-d: decouple SandyBridge quirk from VTd timeout
Currently the quirk code for SandyBridge uses the VTd timeout value when
writing to an IGD register. This is the wrong timeout to use and, at
1000 msec., is also much too large. This patch changes the quirk code
to use a timeout that is specific to the IGD device and allows the user
control of the timeout.

Boolean settings for the boot parameter `snb_igd_quirk' keep their current
meaning, enabling or disabling the quirk code with a timeout of 1000 msec.

In addition specifying `snb_igd_quirk=default' will enable the code and
set the timeout to the theoretical maximum of 670 msec. For finer control,
specifying `snb_igd_quirk=n', where `n' is a decimal number, will enable
the code and set the timeout to `n' msec.

Andrew Cooper 4413affc5f docs/commandline: Fix formatting issues
For 'dom0_max_vcpus' and 'hvm_debug', markdown was interpreting the text as
regular text, and reflowing it as a regular paragraph, leading to a single

causes them to take their precise whitespace layout.

For 'psr', the bullet point was incorrectly delineated from paragraph text,

Ian Campbell ae325e94d2 docs: workaround markdown parser error in xen-command-line.markdown
Some versions of markdown (specifically the one in Debian Wheezy, currently
used to generate
http://xenbits.xen.org/docs/unstable/misc/xen-command-line.html) seem to be
confused by nested lists in the middle of multi-paragraph parent list entries
as seen in the com1,com2 entry.

The effect is that the "Default" section of all following entries are replace
by some sort of hash or checksum (at least, a string of 32 random seeming hex
digits).

Workaround this issue by making the decriptions of the DPS options a nested
list, moving the existing nested list describing the options for S into a third
level list. This seems to avoid the issue, and is arguably better formatting in
its own right (at least its not a regression IMHO)

If you add enough PCI devices then all mmio may not fit below 4G
which may not be the layout the user wanted. This allows you to
increase the below 4G address space that PCI devices can use and
therefore in more cases not have any mmio that is above 4G.

There are real PCI cards that do not support mmio over 4G, so if you
want to emulate them precisely, you may also need to increase the
space below 4G for them. There are drivers for these cards that also
do not work if they have their mmio space mapped above 4G.

This allows growing the MMIO hole to the size needed.

This may help with using pci passthru and HVM.

David Scott 674ad2be40 xenstore: extend the xenstore ring with a 'closing' signal
Hvmloader uses the xenstore ring and then tries to reset it back
to its initial state before booting the guest. Occasionally xenstored

been corrupted. This prevents PV drivers from loading in the guest.

This patch updates the xenstore ring protocol definition, enabling

is defined: the ability to cleanly reset the ring including the
higher-level protocol, like an enhanced RESET_WATCHES for rings.

This patch implements the ring reconnection features in oxenstored

Yang Hongyang 6a19ecf2f3 xl/remus: add a cmdline switch to disable disk replication
Disk replication is enabled by default. This patch adds a cmdline
switch to 'xl remus' command to explicitly disable disk replication.
A new boolean field 'diskbuf' is added to the libxl_domain_remus_info
structure to represent this configuration option inside libxl.

Note: Disabling disk replication requires enabling unsafe mode.

Yang Hongyang d2dec181db xl/remus: cmdline switches and config vars to control network buffering
Add two members in libxl_domain_remus_info:
    netbuf: whether netbuf is enabled
netbufscript: the path of the script which will be run to setup
and tear down the guest's interface.

Add cmdline switches to 'xl remus' command to enable or disable
network buffering and a domain-specific hotplug script to setup
network buffering.

Add a new config var 'remus.default.netbufscript' to xl.conf, that
allows the user to override the default global script used to
setup network buffering.

Note: Network buffering is enabled by default. Disabling network
buffering requires enabling unsafe mode.

Yang Hongyang 6e9adc3284 xl/remus: cmdline switch to explicitly enable unsafe configurations
By default, network buffering and disk replication are enabled;
checkpoints are replicated to another standby VM.

This patch allows the user to disable any of these features by
explicitly specifying a 'run in unsafe mode' switch when invoking
the 'xl remus' command. While running Remus in an unsafe mode
makes little sense under normal circumstances, it is useful to be
able to disable one or more features mentioned above for
testing/debugging/profiling purposes.

Unless this option is enabled, it will not be possible to
replicate memory checkpoints to /dev/null (blackhole replication),
disable network buffering or disk replication.

As a starter, the use of blackhole replication now requires that
the unsafe mode be enabled. Subsequent patches will add support
for disabling network buffering and disk replication in a similar
manner.

Yang Hongyang c031533480 libxl/remus: setup and control disk replication for DRBD backends
This patch adds the machinery required for protecting a guest's
disk state, when the guest disk uses a DRBD disk backend.
This patch comprises of two parts:

1. Hotplug scripts: The block-drbd-probe script is responsible for
performing sanity checks on the state of the DRBD disk before the
checkpointing process begins. This script should be invoked by
libxl for each of the guest's disk devices, when starting Remus.

2. Remus drbd disk device: Implements the interfaces required by the
remus abstract device layer. A note about the implementation:

   a) setup() is called for each disk attached to the guest.
      During setup():
      i) The hotplug script is called to perform the sanity check.

ii) Libxl obtains a handle to the DRBD device (/dev/drbd*) and
and subsequently controls disk checkpoint replication using
this handle in the checkpoint callbacks.

   c) The preresume() checkpoint callback is executed asynchronously
using libxl__ev_child_fork(), as it may potentially block for more
than few seconds in case of backup failure.

Yang Hongyang 6e1b7ac4ed libxl/remus: setup and control network output buffering
This patch adds the machinery required for protecting a guest's
network device state. This patch comprises of two parts:

1. Hotplug scripts: The remus-netbuf-setup script is responsible for
setting up and tearing down the necessary infrastructure required for
network output buffering. This script should be invoked by libxl for
each of the guest's network interfaces, when starting or stopping Remus.

Apart from returning success/failure indication via the usual hotplug
entries in xenstore, this script also writes to xenstore, the name of
the REMUS_IFB device to be used to control the vif's network output.

The script relies on libnl3 command line utilities to perform various
setup/teardown functions. The script is confined to Linux platforms only
since NetBSD does not seem to have libnl3.

2. Remus network device: Implements the interfaces required by the
remus abstract device layer. A note about the implementation:

   a) init_subkind_nic() & cleanup_subkind_nic() are called once per Remus
invocation. They establish and free netlink related state respectively.

   b) setup() and teardown are called for each vif attached to the
      guest.
      During setup():
      i) The hotplug script is called to setup a network buffer on a
given vif. The script chooses an available IFB device from
the system, redirects vif egress traffic to the IFB device
and sets up the plug qdisc (output buffer) on the IFB device.
The name of the IFB device is communicated via xenstore to
         libxl.

ii) Libxl obtains a handle to the plug qdisc using the libnl3 API
and subsequently controls output buffering using this handle
          in the checkpoint callbacks.

During teardown(), the hotplug scripts are called again to remove
the vif->ifb traffic redirection, release the ifb and the plug
      qdisc associated with it.

   c) The checkpoint callbacks [postsuspend(), preresume() and commit()]
are implemented as synchronous ops as the netlink calls associated
with the qdisc subsystem are very fast.

Yang Hongyang 622e837570 autoconf: add libnl3 dependency for Remus network buffering support
Libnl3 is required for controlling Remus network buffering.
This patch adds dependency on libnl3 (>= 3.2.8) to autoconf scripts.
It also provides the ability to configure tools without libnl3 support
i.e., without network buffering support.

When there is no network buffering support, libxl__netbuffer_enabled()
returns 0, otherwise returns 1. The callers of this api will be
introduced in the rest of the series.

to a 100ns tick using the domain's tsc_khz.
