by 039a68373c45 ("introduce -audio as a replacement for -soundhw").
Instead we can just add the sound card with "-device", for most option
that "-soundhw" could handle. "-device" is an option that existed
before QEMU 1.0, and could already be used to add audio hardware.
The list of possible option for libxl's "soundhw" is taken the list
from QEMU 7.0.
The list of options for "soundhw" are listed in order of preference in
the manual. The first three (hda, ac97, es1370) are PCI devices and
easy to test on Linux, and the last four are ISA devices which doesn't
seems to work out of the box on linux.
The sound card 'pcspk' isn't listed even if it used to be accepted by
'-soundhw' because QEMU crash when trying to add it to a Xen domain.
Also, it wouldn't work with "-device" might need to be "-machine

This commit implements the `XEN_DOMCTL_shadow_op` support in Xen
for Arm. The p2m pages pool size for xl guests is supposed to be
determined by `XEN_DOMCTL_shadow_op`. Hence, this commit:
- Introduces a function `p2m_domctl` and implements the subops
`XEN_DOMCTL_SHADOW_OP_SET_ALLOCATION` and
`XEN_DOMCTL_SHADOW_OP_GET_ALLOCATION` of `XEN_DOMCTL_shadow_op`.
- Adds the `XEN_DOMCTL_SHADOW_OP_SET_ALLOCATION` support in libxl.
Therefore enabling the setting of shadow memory pool size
when creating a guest from xl and getting shadow memory pool size
from Xen.
Note that the `XEN_DOMCTL_shadow_op` added in this commit is only
a dummy op, and the functionality of setting/getting p2m memory pool
size for xl guests will be added in following commits.

The default paging memory (descibed in `shadow_memory` entry in xl
config) in libxl is used to determine the memory pool size for xl
guests. Currently this size is only used for x86, and contains a part
of RAM to shadow the resident processes. Since on Arm there is no
shadow mode guests, so the part of RAM to shadow the resident processes
is not necessary. Therefore, this commit splits the function
`libxl_get_required_shadow_memory()` to arch specific helpers and
renamed the helper to `libxl__arch_get_required_paging_memory()`.
On x86, this helper calls the original value from
`libxl_get_required_shadow_memory()` so no functional change intended.
On Arm, this helper returns 1MB per vcpu plus 4KB per MiB of RAM
for the P2M map and additional 512KB.
Also update the xl.cfg documentation to add Arm documentation
according to code changes and correct the comment style following Xen
coding style.

While in principle possible also under other conditions as long as other
parallel operations potentially consuming memory aren't "locked out", in
particular with IOMMU large page mappings used in Dom0 (for PV when in
strict mode; for PVH when not sharing page tables with HAP) ballooning
out of individual pages can actually lead to less free memory available
afterwards. This is because to split a large page, one or more page
table pages are necessary (one per level that is split).
When rebooting a guest I've observed freemem() to fail: A single page
was required to be ballooned out (presumably because of heap
fragmentation in the hypervisor). This ballooning out of a single page
of course went fast, but freemem() then found that it would require to
balloon out another page. This repeating just another time leads to the
function to signal failure to the caller - without having come anywhere
near the designated 30s that the whole process is allowed to not make
any progress at all.
Convert from a simple retry count to actually calculating elapsed time,
subtracting from an initial credit of 30s. Don't go as far as limiting
the "wait_secs" value passed to libxl_wait_for_memory_target(), though.
While this leads to the overall process now possibly taking longer (if
the previous iteration ended very close to the intended 30s), this
compensates to some degree for the value passed really meaning "allowed
to run for this long without making progress".

While the hypervisor could support using PoD together with an IOMMU as

guarantee the guest has PoD no longer be active, and thus a later

The memory allocator currently calculates alignment in libxl's virtual
address space, rather than guest physical address space. This results
in the FACS being commonly misaligned.
Furthermore, the allocator has several other bugs.
The opencoded align-up calculation is currently susceptible to a bug
that occurs in the corner case that the buffer is already aligned to
begin with. In that case, an align-sized memory hole is introduced.
The while loop is dead logic because its effects are entirely and
unconditionally overwritten immediately after it.
Rework the memory allocator to align in guest physical address space
instead of libxl's virtual memory and improve the calculation, drop
errant extra page in allocated buffer for ACPI tables, and give some
of the variables better names/types.

AMD Milan (Zen3) CPUs have an LFENCE Always Serialising CPUID bit in
leaf 80000021.eax. Previous AMD versions used to have a user settable
bit in DE_CFG MSR to select whether LFENCE was dispatch serialising,
which Xen always attempts to set. The forcefully always on setting is
due to the addition of SEV-SNP so that a VMM cannot break the
confidentiality of a guest.
In order to support this new CPUID bit move the LFENCE_DISPATCH
synthetic CPUID bit to map the hardware bit (leaving a hole in the
synthetic range) and either rely on the bit already being set by the
native CPUID output, or attempt to fake it in Xen by modifying the
DE_CFG MSR. This requires adding one more entry to the featureset to
support leaf 80000021.eax.
The bit is always exposed to guests by default even if the underlying
hardware doesn't support leaf 80000021. Note that Xen doesn't allow
guests to change the DE_CFG value, so once set by Xen LFENCE will always
be serialising.
Note that the access to DE_CFG by guests is left as-is: reads will
unconditionally return LFENCE_SERIALISE bit set, while writes are
silently dropped.

x86/cpuid: do not expand max leaves on restore
When restoring limit the maximum leaves to the ones supported by Xen
4.12 in order to not expand the maximum leaves a guests sees. Note
this is unlikely to cause real issues.
Guests restored from Xen versions 4.13 or greater will contain CPUID
data on the stream that will override the values set by
xc_cpuid_apply_policy.

commit 0fdb48ffe7 "libxl: Make sure devices added by pci-attach are
reflected in the config" broken PCI hotplug (xl pci-attach) for PV
domains when it moved libxl__create_pci_backend() later in the function.
This also broke HVM + stubdom PCI passthrough coldplug. For that, the
PCI devices are hotplugged to a running PV stubdom, and then the QEMU
QMP device_add commands are made to QEMU inside the stubdom.
A running PV domain calls libxl__wait_for_backend(). With the current
placement of libxl__create_pci_backend(), the path does not exist and
the call immediately fails:
libxl: error: libxl_device.c:1388:libxl__wait_for_backend: Backend /local/domain/0/backend/pci/43/0 does not exist
libxl: error: libxl_pci.c:1764:device_pci_add_done: Domain 42:libxl__device_pci_add failed for PCI device 0:2:0.0 (rc -3)
libxl: error: libxl_create.c:1857:domcreate_attach_devices: Domain 42:unable to add pci devices
The wait is only relevant when:
1) The domain is PV
2) The domain is running
3) The backend is already present
This is because:
1) xen-pcifront is only used for PV. It does not load for HVM domains
where QEMU is used.
2) If the domain is not running (starting), then the frontend state will
be Initialising. xen-pciback waits for the frontend to transition to
at Initialised before attempting to connect. So a wait for a
non-running domain is not applicable as the backend will not
transition to Connected.
3) For presence, num_devs is already used to determine if the backend
needs to be created. Re-use num_devs to determine if the backend
wait is necessary. The wait is necessary to avoid racing with
another PCI attachment reconfiguring the front/back or changing to
some other state like closing. If we are creating the backend, then
we don't have to worry about the state since it is being created.

This reverts commit c22bd567ce.
While its description is correct from an abstract or real hardware pov,
the range is special inside HVM guests. The range being UC in particular
gets in the way of OVMF, which places itself at [FFE00000,FFFFFFFF].
While this is benign to epte_get_entry_emt() as long as the IOMMU isn't
enabled for a guest, it becomes a very noticable problem otherwise: It
takes about half a minute for OVMF to decompress itself into its
designated address range.
And even beyond OVMF there's no reason to have e.g. the ACPI memory
range marked UC.

There is a step change in speculation protections between the Zen1 and Zen2
microarchitectures.
Zen1 and older have no special support. Control bits in non-architectural
MSRs are used to make lfence be dispatch-serialising (Spectre v1), and to
disable Memory Disambiguation (Speculative Store Bypass). IBPB was
retrofitted in a microcode update, and software methods are required for
Spectre v2 protections.
Because the bit controlling Memory Disambiguation is model specific,
hypervisors are expected to expose a MSR_VIRT_SPEC_CTRL interface which
abstracts the model specific details.
Zen2 and later implement the MSR_SPEC_CTRL interface in hardware, and
virtualise the interface for HVM guests to use. A number of hint bits are
specified too to help guide OS software to the most efficient mitigation
strategy.
Zen3 introduced a new feature, Predictive Store Forwarding, along with a
control to disable it in sensitive code.
Add CPUID and VMCB details for all the new functionality.

Some sub-functions, XENMEM_maximum_gpfn and XENMEM_maximum_ram_page in
particular, can return values requiring more than 31 bits to represent.
Hence we cannot issue the hypercall directly when the return value of
ioctl() is used to propagate this value. This is the case for Linux
and Solaris (and hence needs changing), while the BSDs avoid using the
return value for dual purposes altogether, and MiniOS already wraps all
hypercalls in a multicall.
