Jan Beulich 3af450fd2d x86_emulate: properly do IP updates and other side effects on success
The two MMX/SSE/AVX code blocks failed to update IP properly, and these
as well as get_reg_refix(), which "manually" updated IP so far, failed
to do the TF and RF processing needed at the end of successfully
emulated instructions.

Fix the test utility at once to check IP is properly getting updated,
and while at it macroize the respective code quite a bit, hopefully
making it easier to add further tests when the need arises.

Aravindh Puthiyaparambil 6ae2df93c2 mem_access: Add helper API to setup ring and enable mem_access
tools/libxc: Add helper function to setup ring for mem events
This patch adds a helper function that maps the ring, enables mem_event
and removes the ring from the guest physmap while the domain is paused.
This can be used by all mem_events but is only enabled for mem_access at
the moment.

tests/xen-access: Use helper API to setup ring and enable mem_access
Prior to this patch, xen-access was setting up the ring page in a way
that would give a malicous guest a window to write in to the shared ring
page. This patch fixes this by using the helper API that does it safely
on behalf of xen-access.

This is XSA-99.

Don Slutz 864fec3f36 hvm/hpet: Add manual unit test code.
Add the code at tools/tests/vhpet.

See comment in tools/tests/vhpet/main.c for details on running
either in a xen source tree or elsewhere.

A basic in source tree usage is:

make -C tools/tests/vhpet run

Does repro the bug:

..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC

The make file includes coping hpet.c and hpet.h from the source
tree. hpet.c is then modifed to remove all include file and add the
emul.h include file.

The manual test code has only a few automatic checks that output
messages to stderr:

1) Possible ..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer...
if 1st period is not <= the expected value

2) hpet_set_mode(%ld): T%d Error: Set ...
if read of comparator != write of comparator in

3) hpet_check_stopped(%ld): T%d Error: Set ...
   if read != write

4) main(%ld): With clock stopped mc64 changed: ...
if hpet_save returns different master clock values when called
   more then once.

It also generates a lot of output, which is why the sugested way to
use includes a redirect of stdout to a file.

Jan Beulich 09c856316d x86: fix instruction emulator test's xgetbv constraints
The "A" constraint, while documented up to gcc 4.5 as "The a and d
registers, as a pair (for instructions that return half the result in
one and half in the other)," never really behaved that (natural) way,
but always meant (and is now also documented so) %eax _or_ %edx (%rax
_or_ %rdx on x86-64) unless the operand was wide enough to require both
(i.e. more than 32 bits on ix86 and more than 64 bits on x86-64).

Interestingly something internal to the compiler changed between 4.4
and 4.5 to actually expose the difference - up to gcc 4.4 I was unable
to construct a case where, when only the low half of the result is
actually looked at, the result would be considered to be in %edx/%rdx
(and %eax/%rax would be treated as unmodified by the instruction).

Jan Beulich 062919448e x86: AVX instruction emulation fixes
- we used the C4/C5 (first prefix) byte instead of the apparent ModR/M
one as the second prefix byte
- early decoding normalized vex.reg, thus corrupting it for the main

  instructions we emulate

Also add respective test cases to the testing utility plus
- fix get_fpu() (the fall-through order was inverted)
- add cpu_has_avx2, even if it's currently unused (as in the new test
cases I decided to refrain from using AVX2 instructions in order to
be able to actually run all the tests on the hardware I have)
- slightly tweak cpu_has_avx to more consistently express the outputs
we don't care about (sinking them all into the same variable)

Jan Beulich ecf9846a6a x86: save/restore only partial register state where possible
... and make restore conditional not only upon having saved the state,
but also upon whether saved state was actually modified (and register
values are known to have been preserved).

Note that RBP is unconditionally considered a volatile register (i.e.
irrespective of CONFIG_FRAME_POINTER), since the RBP handling would
become overly complicated due to the need to save/restore it on the
compat mode hypercall path [6th argument].

Note further that for compat mode code paths, saving/restoring R8...R15
is entirely unnecessary - we don't allow those guests to enter 64-bit
mode, and hence they have no way of seeing these registers' contents
(and there consequently also is no information leak, except if the
context saving domctl would be considered such).

Finally, note that this may not properly deal with gdbstub's needs, yet
(but if so, I can't really suggest adjustments, as I don't know that
code).

Andres Lagar-Cavilla 59a36d66a5 Use memops for mem paging, sharing, and access, instead of domctls
Per page operations in the paging, sharing, and access tracking subsystems are
all implemented with domctls (e.g. a domctl to evict one page, or to share one
page).

Under heavy load, the domctl path reveals a lack of scalability. The domctl
lock serializes dom0's vcpus in the hypervisor. When performing thousands of
per-page operations on dozens of domains, these vcpus will spin in the
hypervisor. Beyond the aggressive locking, an added inefficiency of blocking
vcpus in the domctl lock is that dom0 is prevented from re-scheduling any of
its other work-starved processes.

We retain the domctl interface for setting up and tearing down
paging/sharing/mem access for a domain. But we migrate all the per page
operations to use the memory_op hypercalls (e.g XENMEM_*).

Jan Beulich a1b22e625d x86/emulator: workaround for AMD erratum 573
The only cases where we might end up emulating fsincos (as any other
x87 operations without memory operands) are
- when a HVM guest is in real mode (not applicable on AMD)
- between two half page table updates in PAE mode (unlikely, and not
doing the emulation here does affect only performance, not
  correctness)
- when a guest maliciously (or erroneously) modifies an (MMIO or page
table update) instruction under emulation (unspecified behavior)

Hence, in order to avoid the erratum to cause harm to the entire host,
don't emulate fsincos on the affected AMD CPU families.

Olaf Hering 2c36185d44 mem_event: use different ringbuffers for share, paging and access
Up to now a single ring buffer was used for mem_share, xenpaging and
xen-access. Each helper would have to cooperate and pull only its own
requests from the ring. Unfortunately this was not implemented. And
even if it was, it would make the whole concept fragile because a crash
or early exit of one helper would stall the others.

What happend up to now is that active xenpaging + memory_sharing would
push memsharing requests in the buffer. xenpaging is not prepared for
such requests.

This patch creates an independet ring buffer for mem_share, xenpaging
and xen-access and adds also new functions to enable xenpaging and
xen-access. The xc_mem_event_enable/xc_mem_event_disable functions will
be removed. The various XEN_DOMCTL_MEM_EVENT_* macros were cleaned up.
Due to the removal the API changed, so the SONAME will be changed too.
