David Scott 91418eecea libxl: add support for 'channels'
A 'channel':
  - is a low-bandwidth private communication channel that resembles
    a physical serial port.
  - is implemented as a PV console with a well-known string name
which is used to hook the channel to the appropriate software
in the guest (i.e. some kind of guest agent).
  - has a backend 'connection' which describes what should happen
    to the data.

The following 'connection' types are defined:

 * PTY: the I/O surfaces as a pty in the backend domain
 * SOCKET: a listening Unix domain socket accepts a connection in
   the backend domain and proxies

Channels may be listed but don't currently support hotplug/unplug.

Yang Hongyang 6a19ecf2f3 xl/remus: add a cmdline switch to disable disk replication
Disk replication is enabled by default. This patch adds a cmdline
switch to 'xl remus' command to explicitly disable disk replication.
A new boolean field 'diskbuf' is added to the libxl_domain_remus_info
structure to represent this configuration option inside libxl.

Note: Disabling disk replication requires enabling unsafe mode.

Yang Hongyang d2dec181db xl/remus: cmdline switches and config vars to control network buffering
Add two members in libxl_domain_remus_info:
    netbuf: whether netbuf is enabled
netbufscript: the path of the script which will be run to setup
and tear down the guest's interface.

Add cmdline switches to 'xl remus' command to enable or disable
network buffering and a domain-specific hotplug script to setup
network buffering.

Add a new config var 'remus.default.netbufscript' to xl.conf, that
allows the user to override the default global script used to
setup network buffering.

Note: Network buffering is enabled by default. Disabling network
buffering requires enabling unsafe mode.

Yang Hongyang 6e9adc3284 xl/remus: cmdline switch to explicitly enable unsafe configurations
By default, network buffering and disk replication are enabled;
checkpoints are replicated to another standby VM.

This patch allows the user to disable any of these features by
explicitly specifying a 'run in unsafe mode' switch when invoking
the 'xl remus' command. While running Remus in an unsafe mode
makes little sense under normal circumstances, it is useful to be
able to disable one or more features mentioned above for
testing/debugging/profiling purposes.

Unless this option is enabled, it will not be possible to
replicate memory checkpoints to /dev/null (blackhole replication),
disable network buffering or disk replication.

As a starter, the use of blackhole replication now requires that
the unsafe mode be enabled. Subsequent patches will add support
for disabling network buffering and disk replication in a similar
manner.

Yang Hongyang c031533480 libxl/remus: setup and control disk replication for DRBD backends
This patch adds the machinery required for protecting a guest's
disk state, when the guest disk uses a DRBD disk backend.
This patch comprises of two parts:

1. Hotplug scripts: The block-drbd-probe script is responsible for
performing sanity checks on the state of the DRBD disk before the
checkpointing process begins. This script should be invoked by
libxl for each of the guest's disk devices, when starting Remus.

2. Remus drbd disk device: Implements the interfaces required by the
remus abstract device layer. A note about the implementation:

   a) setup() is called for each disk attached to the guest.
      During setup():
      i) The hotplug script is called to perform the sanity check.

ii) Libxl obtains a handle to the DRBD device (/dev/drbd*) and
and subsequently controls disk checkpoint replication using
this handle in the checkpoint callbacks.

   c) The preresume() checkpoint callback is executed asynchronously
using libxl__ev_child_fork(), as it may potentially block for more
than few seconds in case of backup failure.

Yang Hongyang 6e1b7ac4ed libxl/remus: setup and control network output buffering
This patch adds the machinery required for protecting a guest's
network device state. This patch comprises of two parts:

1. Hotplug scripts: The remus-netbuf-setup script is responsible for
setting up and tearing down the necessary infrastructure required for
network output buffering. This script should be invoked by libxl for
each of the guest's network interfaces, when starting or stopping Remus.

Apart from returning success/failure indication via the usual hotplug
entries in xenstore, this script also writes to xenstore, the name of
the REMUS_IFB device to be used to control the vif's network output.

The script relies on libnl3 command line utilities to perform various
setup/teardown functions. The script is confined to Linux platforms only
since NetBSD does not seem to have libnl3.

2. Remus network device: Implements the interfaces required by the
remus abstract device layer. A note about the implementation:

   a) init_subkind_nic() & cleanup_subkind_nic() are called once per Remus
invocation. They establish and free netlink related state respectively.

   b) setup() and teardown are called for each vif attached to the
      guest.
      During setup():
      i) The hotplug script is called to setup a network buffer on a
given vif. The script chooses an available IFB device from
the system, redirects vif egress traffic to the IFB device
and sets up the plug qdisc (output buffer) on the IFB device.
The name of the IFB device is communicated via xenstore to
         libxl.

ii) Libxl obtains a handle to the plug qdisc using the libnl3 API
and subsequently controls output buffering using this handle
          in the checkpoint callbacks.

During teardown(), the hotplug scripts are called again to remove
the vif->ifb traffic redirection, release the ifb and the plug
      qdisc associated with it.

   c) The checkpoint callbacks [postsuspend(), preresume() and commit()]
are implemented as synchronous ops as the netlink calls associated
with the qdisc subsystem are very fast.

Yang Hongyang fc13ec3856 libxl/remus: introduce an abstract Remus device layer
Introduce an abstract device layer that allows the Remus
logic in libxl to control a guest's devices in a device-agnostic
manner. The device layer also exposes a set of internal interfaces
that a device type must implement, if it wishes to support Remus.

The following API are exposed to libxl:

One-time configuration operations:
  *libxl__remus_devices_setup
    > Enable output buffering for NICs, setup disk replication, etc.
  *libxl__remus_devices_teardown
    > Disable network output buffering and disk replication;
teardown any associated external setups like qdiscs for NICs.

Operations executed every checkpoint (in order of invocation):
  *libxl__remus_devices_postsuspend
  *libxl__remus_devices_preresume
  *libxl__remus_devices_commit

Each device type needs to implement the interfaces specified in
the libxl__remus_device_instance_ops if it wishes to support Remus.

The high-level control flow through the Remus device layer is shown below:

xl remus
  |->  libxl_domain_remus_start
    |-> libxl__remus_devices_setup
      |-> Per-checkpoint libxl__remus_devices_[postsuspend,preresume,commit]
        ...
        |-> On backup failure/network error/other errors
            libxl__remus_devices_teardown

callback processing
* Only call the per-device libxl__multidev_one_callback
when the iteration has succeded or failed.
* The final callback (called by multidev) is a trivial
shim to shuffle the pointers and notify our own caller.

Wei Liu 4197d3abbb libxl: synchronise configuration when we hotplug a device
We update JSON version first, then write to xenstore, so that we
maintain the following invariant: any device which is present in
xenstore has a corresponding entry in JSON.

The workflow is as followed:
   lock json config
       read json config
update in-memory json config with new entry, replacing
         any stale entry
       for loop
           open xs transaction
check device existence, abort if it exists
write in-memory json config to disk
           commit xs transaction
       end for loop
   unlock json config

Please see comment in libxl_internal.h for correctness proof.

As those routines are called both during domain creation and device
hotplug, we add a flag to indicate whether we need to update JSON
config. This flag is only set to true when we hotplug a device. We
cannot update JSON config during domain creation as JSON config is
committed to disk only when domain creation finishes.

Wei Liu a788fe0cd8 libxl: rework domain userdata file lock
The lock introduced in d2cd9d4f ("libxl: functions to lock / unlock
libxl userdata store") has a bug that can leak the lock file when domain
destruction races with other functions that try to get hold of the lock.

There are several issues:
1. The lock is released too early with libxl__userdata_destroyall
deletes everything in userdata store, including the lock file.
2. The check of domain existence is only done at the beginning of lock
function, by the time the lock is acquired, the domain might have
   been gone already.

The effect of this two issues is we can run into such situation:

Process 1 Process 2 domain destruction
   # LOCK FUNCTION # LOCK FUNCTION
check domain existence check domain existence
                                    acquire lock (file created)
                                   # LOCK FUNCTION
destroy all files (lock file deleted,
                                                       lock released)
    acquire lock (file created)
   # LOCK FUNCTION destroy domain
                                   # UNLOCK (close fd only)
   [ lock file leaked ]

Fix this problem by deploying following changes:

1. Unlink lock file in unlock function.
2. Modify libxl__userdata_destroyall to not delete domain-userdata-lock,
so that the lock remains held until unlock function is called.
3. Check domain still exists when the lock is acquired, unlock if
   domain is already gone.

Originally libxl user data store didn't have lock at all. There could be
such race condition as mentioned by Ian Jackson:

  Task 1 Task 2
Creating the domain Trying to shut down

    actually create domain
                                           observe domid
                                           start domain destruction
                                           delete all userdata
                                           destroy domain
    store the userdata
*** forbidden state created: userdata exists but domain doesn't
      *** userdata has been leaked
[ would now bomb out ]

This patch adds in proper locking to libxl user data store. The lock is
associated with a specific domain (i.e. a per-domain lock).

As for locking hierachy, we first take CTX lock (which is implemented
with pthread recursive mutex so even if the application has taken it
we're fine), then take the file lock. These locks are released in
reversed order.

A new libxl error code ERROR_LOCK_FAIL is introduced to describe failure
to acquire locks.

Also factor out libxl__userdata_{retrieve,store}, so that other
functions that already hold the lock can call them to manipulate
user data.

Dario Faggioli 871b43a309 libxl: get and set soft affinity
Make space a new cpumap in vcpu_info, called cpumap_soft,
for retrieving soft affinity, and amend the relevant API
accordingly.

libxl_set_vcpuaffinity() now takes two cpumaps, one for hard
and one for soft affinity (LIBXL_API_VERSION is exploited to
retain source level backword compatibility). Either of the
two cpumap can be NULL, in which case, only the affinity
corresponding to the non-NULL cpumap will be affected.

Getting soft affinity happens indirectly (see, e.g.,
`xl vcpu-list'), as it is already for hard affinity).

This commit also introduces some logic to check whether the
affinity which will be used by Xen to schedule the vCPU(s)
does actually match with the cpumaps provided. In fact, we
want to allow every possible combination of hard and soft
affinity to be set, but we warn the user upon particularly
weird situations (e.g., hard and soft being disjoint sets
of pCPUs).

This very change also update the error handling for calls
to libxl_set_vcpuaffinity() in xl, as that can now be any
libxl error code, not just only -1.

Dario Faggioli 6cc89d3101 libxc: get and set soft and hard affinity
by using the flag and the new cpumap arguments introduced in
the parameters of the DOMCTL_{get,set}_vcpuaffinity hypercalls.

Now, both xc_vcpu_setaffinity() and xc_vcpu_getaffinity() have
a new flag parameter, to specify whether the user wants to
set/get hard affinity, soft affinity or both. They also have
two cpumap parameters instead of only one. This way, it is
possible to set/get both hard and soft affinity at the same
time (and, in case of set, each one to its own value).

In xc_vcpu_setaffinity(), the cpumaps are IN/OUT parameters,

Wei Liu ab4440112b xl / libxl: push parsing of SSID and CPU pool ID down to libxl
This patch pushes parsing of "init_seclabel", "seclabel",
"device_model_stubdomain_seclabel" and "pool" down to libxl level.

Originally the parsing is done in xl level, which is not ideal because
libxl won't have the truely relevant information. With this patch libxl
holds important information by itself.

The libxl IDL is extended to hold the string of labels and pool name.
And if there those strings are present they take precedence over the
numeric representations.

As all relevant structures (libxl_dominfo etc) have a field called
X_name / X_label now, a string is also copied there so that callers
won't have to do ID to name / label translation.

In order to be compatible with users of older versions of libxl, this
patch also defines LIBXL_HAVE_SSID_LABEL and LIBXL_HAVE_CPUPOOL_NAME. If
they are defined, the respective strings are available. And if those
strings are not NULL, libxl will do the parsing and ignore the numeric
values.

is supposed to disable discard support if file based backing storage was

The option intended for the backend driver. A new boolean property

Ian Jackson caafd3303d libxl: init: libxl__poller_init and _get take gc
Change libxl__poller_init and libxl__poller__get to take a libxl__gc*
rather than a libxl_ctx*. The gc is not used for memory allocation
but simply to provide the standard local variable "gc" expected by the
convenience macros. Doing this makes the error logging more
convenient.

Hence, convert the logging calls to use the LOG* convenience macros.

And consequently, change the call sites, and the function bodies to
use CTX rather than ctx.

Also convert a call to malloc() (with error check) in
libxl__poller_get, to libxl__zalloc (no error check needed).

Ian Jackson c566ab68af libxl: Fix error path in libxl_device_events_handler
libxl_device_events_handler would fail to call AO_ABORT if it failed;
instead it would simply return rc. (This leaves the egc etc. from the
now-abolished stack frame potentially live, and leaves the ctx
locked.)

In xl, this is of no consequence, because xl will immediately exit in
this situation. This is very likely to be true in any other callers
(of which we don't know of any, anyway).
