Jan Beulich 4a578b316e memory: split and tighten maximum order permitted in memops
Introduce and enforce separate limits for ordinary DomU, DomU with
pass-through device(s), control domain, and hardware domain.

The DomU defaults were determined based on what so far was allowed by
multipage_allocation_permitted().

The x86 hwdom default was chosen based on linux-2.6.18-xen.hg c/s
1102:82782f1361a9 indicating 2Mb is not enough, plus some slack.

The ARM hwdom default was chosen to allow 2Mb (order-9) mappings, plus
a little bit of slack.

This is CVE-2015-8338 / XSA-158.

Paul Durrant 26b4f4da89 docs: Introduce xenstore paths for guest network address information
It is useful for a toolstack to be able to see the network addresses
in use by a domain for a particular vif in xenstore for display
purposes and, for example, so that a VNC session can be established
to the guest GUI.

This patch documents paths to allow a domain to advertise an interface
name, MAC (unicast and multicast) and IP (version 4 and 6) address
information.

Paul Durrant e8f98cb2d4 docs: Introduce xenstore paths for hotplug features
Without some indication from a guest it is not possible for a
toolstack to know whether instantiation of a new vbd or vif should
result in a new PV device of the appropriate type being brought online.
(In other words whether guest PV drivers are present and functioning).

This patch documents two paths which vif and vbd frontend drivers can
use to advertise their ability to respond to new vif or vbd
instantiations.

For domain management purposes it is convenient to be able to see

Paul Durrant 85e3b08eb7 docs: Introduce xenstore paths for PV control features
XenServer already makes use of ~/control/feature-suspend being written
to advertise guest capability of responding to 'suspend' when written to
~/control/shutdown and, since they are derived from XenServer drivers,
the Xen Project Windows PV drivers attempt to write this value. The write
currently fails for libxl provisioned VMs because ~/control is read-only
to the guest (only ~/control/shutdown is writable, for ackowledgement
purposes).

This patch documents feature-suspend and also a set of similar control
feature flags, so that that they may be added to libxl provisioned
guests by subsequent patches:

feature-poweroff: PV drivers/agent can shut down the guest
feature-reboot: PV drivers/agent can reboot the guest
feature-s3: PV drivers/agent can trigger guest sleep (HVM only)
feature-s4: PV drivers/agent can trigger guest hibernate (HVM only)

The patch (bacause it adds features relating to S3 and S4 power states)
also clarifies that the initial set of platform properties mentioned are
booleans, and updates the specifier accordingly.

Stefano Stabellini 84f2fd1ba5 run QEMU as non-root
Try to use "xen-qemuuser-domid$domid" first, then
"xen-qemuuser-shared" and root if everything else fails.

The uids need to be manually created by the user or, more likely, by the
xen package maintainer.

Expose a device_model_user setting in libxl_domain_build_info, so that
opinionated callers, such as libvirt, can set any user they like. Do not
fall back to root if device_model_user is set. Users can also set
device_model_user by hand in the xl domain config file.

QEMU is going to setuid and setgid to the user ID and the group ID of
the specified user, soon after initialization, before starting to deal
with any guest IO.

To actually secure QEMU when running in Dom0, we need at least to
deprivilege the privcmd and xenstore interfaces, this is just the first
step in that direction.

Jan Beulich cc967461e7 ns16550: misc minor adjustments
First and foremost: fix documentation: The use of "clock_hz", when
"base_baud" was meant, has taken me several hours (suspecting a more
complicated problem with the PCIe card I've been trying to get
working). At once correct the "gdb" option, which is more like
"console", not like "com<N>".

Next, fix the types of ns_{read,write}_reg(): Especially the former
having had a signed return type so far caused quite interesting effects
when determining to baud rate if "auto" was specified. In that same
code, also avoid dividing by zero when in fact the baud rate was not
previously set up.

Further, accept I/O port based serial PCI cards with a port range wider
than 8 bytes.

Finally, slightly rearrange struct ns16550 to reduce holes.

Since commit 191b3f3344 ("p2m/ept: enable PML in p2m-ept for

unconditionally, regardless of whether PML is enabled or not. This
causes a regression in Xen 4.6 on some processors due to Intel Errata

due to incorrect TLB flushing on mov to cr3. The erratum affects the
Atom C2000 family (Avoton).

Ting-Wei Lan 146341187a VT-d: add iommu=igfx option to workaround graphics issues
When using Linux >= 3.19 (commit 47591df) as dom0 on some Intel Ironlake
devices, It is possible to encounter graphics issues that make screen
unreadable or crash the system. It was reported in freedesktop bugzilla:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90037

As we still cannot find a proper fix for this problem, this patch adds
iommu=igfx option to control whether Intel graphics IOMMU is enabled.
Running Xen with iommu=no-igfx is similar to running Linux with
intel_iommu=igfx_off, which disables IOMMU for Intel GPU. This can be
used by users to manually workaround the problem before a fix is

Tiejun Chen 63bc1398ad tools: introduce some new parameters to set rdm policy
This patch introduces user configurable parameters to specify RDM
resource and according policies,

Global RDM parameter:
    rdm = "strategy=host,policy=strict/relaxed"
Per-device RDM parameter:
    pci = [ 'sbdf, rdm_policy=strict/relaxed' ]

Global RDM parameter, "strategy", allows user to specify reserved regions
explicitly, Currently, using 'host' to include all reserved regions reported
on this platform which is good to handle hotplug scenario. In the future
this parameter may be further extended to allow specifying random regions,
e.g. even those belonging to another platform as a preparation for live
migration with passthrough devices. By default this isn't set so we don't
check all rdms. Instead, we just check rdm specific to a given device if
you're assigning this kind of device. Note this option is not recommended
unless you can make sure any conflict does exist.

'strict/relaxed' policy decides how to handle conflict when reserving RDM
regions in pfn space. If conflict exists, 'strict' means an immediate error
so VM can't keep running, while 'relaxed' allows moving forward with a
warning message thrown out.

Default per-device RDM policy is same as default global RDM policy as being
'relaxed'. And the per-device policy would override the global policy like
others.

Fabio Fantoni 05d428addd libxl: Add AHCI support for upstream qemu
Usage:
hdtype=ide|ahci (default=ide)

If hdtype=ahci adds ich9 disk controller in ahci mode and uses it with
upstream qemu to emulate disks instead of ide.
It doesn't support cdroms which still using ide (cdroms will use
"-device ide-cd" as new qemu parameter)
Ahci requires new qemu parameter but for now other emulated disks cases
remains with old ones (I did it in other patch, not needed by this one)
I did it as libxl parameter disabled by default to avoid possible
problems:
- with save/restore/migration (restoring with ahci a domU that was with
ide instead)
- windows < 8 without pv drivers (a registry key change is needed for
AHCI<->IDE change FWIK to avoid possible blue screen)
- windows XP or older that many not support ahci by default.
Setting AHCI with libxl parameter and default to disabled seems the best
solution.
AHCI increase hvm domUs boot performance. On linux hvm domU I saw up to
only 20% of the previous total boot time, whereas boot time decrease a
lot on W7 domUs for most of boots I have done. Small difference in boot
time compared to ide mode on W8 and newer (probably other xen
improvements or fixes are needed not ahci related)

David Vrabel 40de9fffb4 gnttab: make the grant table lock a read-write lock
In combination with the per-active entry locks, the grant table lock
can be made a read-write lock since the majority of cases only the
read lock is required. The grant table read lock protects against
changes to the table version or size (which are done with the write
lock held).

The write lock is also required when two active entries must be
acquired.

The double lock is still required when updating IOMMU page tables.

With the lock contention being only on the maptrack lock (unless IOMMU
updates are required), performance and scalability is improved.

Julien Grall cb818a58f6 xen/arm: Introduce xen, passthrough property
When a device is marked for passthrough (via the new property
"xen, passthrough"), dom0 must not access to the device (i.e not
loading a driver), but should be able to manage the MMIO/interrupt
of the passthrough device.

The latter part will allow the toolstack to map MMIO/IRQ when a device
is pass through to a guest.

The property "xen, passthrough" will be translated as 'status="disabled"'
in the device tree to avoid DOM0 using the device. We assume that DOM0 is
able to cope with this property (already the case for Linux, and
required by ePAPR).

Rework the function map_device (renamed into handle_device) to:

* For a given device node:
    - Give permission to manage IRQ/MMIO for this device
    - Retrieve the IRQ configuration (i.e edge/level) from the device
    tree
* When the device is not marked for guest passthrough:
    - Assign the device to the guest if it's protected by an IOMMU

Commit 2090f14c5c ("sysctl: make XEN_SYSCTL_topologyinfo sysctl a
little more efficient") renamed XEN_SYSCTL_topologyinfo to
XEN_SYSCTL_cputopoinfo.

It, however, neglected to update this macro for flask-related files.

Ian Campbell 756c3d8054 xen: arm: more flexible scheme for specifying early printk device
This allows for early-printk to be specified (for existing UARTS at
least) without the need to edit Rules.mk.

The existing shortcuts are retained, but in a much more compact
fashion.

An unused EARLY_PRINTK_BAUD was removed from the zynqmq settings.

Daniel De Graaf 9d87e9beb3 flask/policy: fix static device labeling examples
The definitions of static device labels must be placed at the end of the
policy.conf before passing it to checkpolicy; the existing examples
(which are commented out) are in the wrong location. Create a new file
for device contexts which will place them in the proper location.

This also removes some directions about using the xen policy type in
checkpolicy which is no longer needed.

By default we will always use EFI reboot mechanism when

Daniel De Graaf b5f90278f5 flask: create unified "flask=" boot parameter
This unifies the flask_enforcing and flask_enabled boot parameters into
a single parameter with additional states. Defined options are:

enforcing - require policy to be loaded at boot time and enforce it
permissive - a missing or broken policy does not panic
disabled - revert to dummy (no XSM) policy. Was flask_enabled=0
late - bootloader policy is not used; later loadpolicy is enforcing

The default mode remains "permissive" and the flask_enforcing boot
parameter is retained for compatibility. If flask_enforcing=1 is
specified and flask= is not, the bootloader policy will be loaded in
enforcing mode if present, but errors will disable access controls until
a successful loadpolicy instead of causing a panic at boot.

Jan Beulich 705313c093 x86: allow specifying the NUMA nodes Dom0 should run on
... by introducing a "dom0_nodes" option augmenting the "dom0_mem" and
"dom0_max_vcpus" ones.

Note that this gives meaning to MEMF_exact_node specified alone (i.e.
implicitly combined with NUMA_NO_NODE): In such a case any node inside
the domain's node mask is acceptable, but no other node. This changed
behavior is (implicitly) being exposed through the memop hypercalls.

Note further that this change doesn't take care of moving the initrd
image into memory matching Dom0's affinity when the initrd doesn't get
copied (because of being part of the initial mapping) anyway.

And note finally that this doesn't get us meaningfully closer to
handing vNUMA information to Dom0 (which will require the current
striping of allocations to become node-specific in order for the passed
on information to be meaningful).
