$(DSDT_FILES-y) depends on the recursive make to have run in libacpi/
such that the file(s) itself/themselves were generated before
compilation gets attempted. The same, however, is also necessary for
generated headers, before source files including them would get
attempted to be compiled.
The dependency specified in libacpi's Makefile, otoh, is entirely
pointless nowadays - no compilation happens there anymore (except for
tools involved in building the generated files). Together with it, the
rule generating acpi.a also can go away.

The hardcoded tpm_signature is too restrictive to detect many TPMs. For
instance, it doesn't accept a QEMU emulated TPM (VID 0x1014 DID 0x0001).
Make the TPM detection match that in rombios which accepts a wider
range.
With this change, the TPM's TCPA ACPI table is generated and the guest
OS can automatically load the tpm_tis driver. It also allows seabios to
detect and use the TPM. However, seabios skips some TPM initialization
when running under Xen, so it will not populate any PCRs unless modified
to run the initialization under Xen.

DSDT for qemu-xen lacks _STA method of PCI slot object. If _STA method
doesn't exist then the slot is assumed to be always present and active
which in conjunction with _EJ0 method makes every device ejectable for
an OS even if it's not the case.
qemu-kvm is able to dynamically add _EJ0 method only to those slots
that either have hotpluggable devices or free for PCI passthrough.
As Xen lacks this capability we cannot use their way.
qemu-xen-traditional DSDT has _STA method which only reports that
the slot is present if there is a PCI devices hotplugged there.
This is done through querying of its PCI hotplug controller.
qemu-xen has similar capability that reports if device is "hotpluggable
or absent" which we can use to achieve the same result.

New versions of iasl have introduced improved C file generation, as
reported in the changelog:
iASL: Enhanced the -tc option (which creates an AML hex file in C,
suitable for import into a firmware project):
1) Create a unique name for the table, to simplify use of multiple
SSDTs.
2) Add a protection #ifdef in the file, similar to a .h header file.
The net effect of that on generated files is:
-unsigned char AmlCode[] =
+#ifndef __SSDT_S4_HEX__
+#define __SSDT_S4_HEX__
+
+unsigned char ssdt_s4_aml_code[] =
The above example is from ssdt_s4.asl.
Fix the build with newer versions of iasl by stripping the '_aml_code'
suffix from the variable name on generated files.

Commit 149c6b unmasked an issue long present in Xen: the control/event
block addresses provided in the ACPI FADT table where hardcoded to the
V1 version. This was papered over because hvmloader would also always
set HVM_PARAM_ACPI_IOPORTS_LOCATION to 1 regardless of the BIOS
version.
The most notable issue caused by the above bug was that the QEMU
traditional GPE0 block was out of sync: the address provided in the
FADT didn't match the address QEMU was using.
Note that PM1a and TMR worked fine because the V1 address was
hardcoded in the FADT and HVM_PARAM_ACPI_IOPORTS_LOCATION was
unconditionally set to 1 by hvmloader.
Fix this by passing the address of the control/event blocks to
acpi_build_tables, so the values can be properly set in the FADT table
provided to the guest.

Commit d6ac8e22c7 ("acpi/x86: define ACPI IO registers for

of XEN_ACPI_CPU_MAP[_LEN] macros that are needed only for x86
guests.
We could fix the build by dealing specifically with those macros
but since post-MADT code is not executed on ARM64 anyway we can
compile it for x86 only.

The commit c4ac1077 "libxl/arm: Generate static ACPI DSDT table"
introduced support of ARM64 in mk_dsdt but also break cross-building
tools because the ACPI tables are not correct.
While mk_dsdt should generate ACPI table for the target architecture, it
currently generates the one for the host. This is because the source
code contains reference to the host architecture (__aarch64__,
__x86_64__, __i386__) when it should be the target architecture.
Replace all __aarch64__, __x86_64__, __i386__ by the corresponding
CONFIG_*.
Also expose the CONFIG_* to the source code as the currently only
exposed to the Makefile.

that are not available on all the OSes supported by the Xen tools.
The '-i' option has slightly different semantics between GNU and BSD sed
implementations, while on the GNU version the suffix is optional, on the BSD
one it is not. Also BSD sed seems to have problems parsing the script
itself, reporting "extra characters at the end of d command".
Fix those issues by using a temporary intermediate file, and replace the
script with a simpler version that achieves the same purpose (removing the

The arm64 build for libacpi was broken due to two reasons:
1. ACPI_BUILD_DIR was appended twice to dsdt_anycpu_arm.c.
2. The inclusion of firmware/Rules.mk overrided XEN_TARGET_ARCH, which
made CONFIG_ARM disappear.
Fix those by:
1. Correctly generate full path for dsdt_anaycpu_arm.c.
2. Include tools/Rules.mk instead, because libacpi/Makefile doesn't rely
on settings in firmware/Rules.mk.
While at it, use CONFIG_ARM_64 instead of CONFIG_ARM as it is more
accurate.
