Julien Grall cb818a58f6 xen/arm: Introduce xen, passthrough property
When a device is marked for passthrough (via the new property
"xen, passthrough"), dom0 must not access to the device (i.e not
loading a driver), but should be able to manage the MMIO/interrupt
of the passthrough device.

The latter part will allow the toolstack to map MMIO/IRQ when a device
is pass through to a guest.

The property "xen, passthrough" will be translated as 'status="disabled"'
in the device tree to avoid DOM0 using the device. We assume that DOM0 is
able to cope with this property (already the case for Linux, and
required by ePAPR).

Rework the function map_device (renamed into handle_device) to:

* For a given device node:
    - Give permission to manage IRQ/MMIO for this device
    - Retrieve the IRQ configuration (i.e edge/level) from the device
    tree
* When the device is not marked for guest passthrough:
    - Assign the device to the guest if it's protected by an IOMMU
    - Map the IRQs and MMIOs regions to the guest

Dario Faggioli a86eecbbf5 xl: enable using ranges of pCPUs when creating cpupools
instead of just list of single pCPUs or NUMA node IDs, as
it happens right now.

On the other hand, after this change, strings containing
pCPUs and NUMA node ranges is supported. The syntax is the
same one supported by the "cpus" and "cpus_soft" config
switch, i.e., "4-8" or "node:1,12-18,^14".

This make things more flexible, more consistent, and also
improves error handling, as the pCPU range parsing routine
already present in xl is more reliable than just a call
to atoi().

While there, remove a redundant error check in the legacy syntax
handling (libxl_bitmap_test() already checks the index being
within the size of the bitmap).

Dario Faggioli 62ff09ae2f xl: enable using ranges of pCPUs when manipulating cpupools
in fact, right now, xl sub-commands 'cpupool-cpu-add' and
'cpupool-cpu-remove' only accept the specification of one
pCPU to be added or removed to/from a cpupool.

With this change, they can deal with ranges, like "4-8",
or "node:1,12-18,^14". The syntax is exactly the same one
that is supported by the 'vcpu-pin' subcommand, and
specifying just one pCPU still works, of course.

This make things more flexible, more consistent, and also

Daniel De Graaf b5f90278f5 flask: create unified "flask=" boot parameter
This unifies the flask_enforcing and flask_enabled boot parameters into
a single parameter with additional states. Defined options are:

enforcing - require policy to be loaded at boot time and enforce it
permissive - a missing or broken policy does not panic
disabled - revert to dummy (no XSM) policy. Was flask_enabled=0
late - bootloader policy is not used; later loadpolicy is enforcing

The default mode remains "permissive" and the flask_enforcing boot
parameter is retained for compatibility. If flask_enforcing=1 is
specified and flask= is not, the bootloader policy will be loaded in
enforcing mode if present, but errors will disable access controls until
a successful loadpolicy instead of causing a panic at boot.

Jan Beulich 705313c093 x86: allow specifying the NUMA nodes Dom0 should run on
... by introducing a "dom0_nodes" option augmenting the "dom0_mem" and
"dom0_max_vcpus" ones.

Note that this gives meaning to MEMF_exact_node specified alone (i.e.
implicitly combined with NUMA_NO_NODE): In such a case any node inside
the domain's node mask is acceptable, but no other node. This changed
behavior is (implicitly) being exposed through the memop hypercalls.

Note further that this change doesn't take care of moving the initrd
image into memory matching Dom0's affinity when the initrd doesn't get
copied (because of being part of the initial mapping) anyway.

And note finally that this doesn't get us meaningfully closer to
handing vNUMA information to Dom0 (which will require the current
striping of allocations to become node-specific in order for the passed
on information to be meaningful).

Ian Campbell f01af57300 dt-uart: use ':' as separator between path and options
',' is a valid character in a device-tree path (see ePAPR v1.1 Table
2-1), in fact ',' is actually pretty common in node names.

Using ',' as a separator breaks for example on fast models. If you use
the full path (/smb/motherboard/iofpga@3,00000000/uart@090000) rather
than the alias then earlyprintk gives:

(XEN) Looking for UART console /smb/motherboard/iofpga@3
(XEN) Unable to find device "/smb/motherboard/iofpga@3"
(XEN) Bad console= option 'dtuart'

I actually noticed this on Jetson where the uart is
"/serial@0,70006300" and there happened to be no alias defined.

Instead use ':' as the separator, it is defined to terminate the path
in the context of /chosen/stdout-path (Table 3-4) which is pretty
closely analogous to the dtuart= option and so makes a pretty good
choice (especially since the next patch adds support for stdout-path).

Since no DT aware driver current supports any options there is no
point in retaining support for ',' for backwards compatibility.

Additionally, expand the buffer for the dtuart option, a path can be
far longer than 30 characters (in fact the maximum size of a single
node name is 31, so it's not even necessarily enough for an alias).
128 is completely arbitrary and allows for paths at least 8 deep even
with worst case node names.

Paul Durrant dd94caca53 x86/viridian: add Partition Reference Time enlightenment
The presence of the partition reference time enlightenment persuades newer
versions of Windows to prefer the TSC as their primary time source. Hence,
if rdtsc is not being emulated and is invariant then many vmexits (for
alternative time sources such as the HPET or reference counter MSR) can
be avoided.

The implementation is not yet complete as no attempt is made to prevent
emulation of rdtsc if the enlightenment is active and guest and host
TSC frequencies differ. To do that requires invasive changes in the core
x86 time code and hence a lot more testing.

This patch avoids the issue by disabling the enlightenment if rdtsc is
being emulated, causing Windows to choose another time source. This is
safe, but may cause a big variation in performance of guests migrated
between hosts of differing TSC frequency. Thus the enlightenment is not
enabled in the default set, but may be enabled to improve guest performance
where such migrations are not a concern.

Specification v4.0a for details.

Currently the quirk code for SandyBridge uses the VTd timeout value when

Boolean settings for the boot parameter `snb_igd_quirk' keep their current
meaning, enabling or disabling the quirk code with a timeout of 1000 msec.

In addition specifying `snb_igd_quirk=default' will enable the code and
set the timeout to the theoretical maximum of 670 msec. For finer control,
specifying `snb_igd_quirk=n', where `n' is a decimal number, will enable

line as output. Reformat them as code blocks inside blockquote blocks, which
causes them to take their precise whitespace layout.

For 'psr', the bullet point was incorrectly delineated from paragraph text,
causing it to be reflowed. Alter the formatting to include the CMT-specific
options as sub-bullets of the overall CMT resource.

Ian Campbell ae325e94d2 docs: workaround markdown parser error in xen-command-line.markdown
Some versions of markdown (specifically the one in Debian Wheezy, currently
used to generate
http://xenbits.xen.org/docs/unstable/misc/xen-command-line.html) seem to be
confused by nested lists in the middle of multi-paragraph parent list entries
as seen in the com1,com2 entry.

The effect is that the "Default" section of all following entries are replace
by some sort of hash or checksum (at least, a string of 32 random seeming hex
digits).

Workaround this issue by making the decriptions of the DPS options a nested
list, moving the existing nested list describing the options for S into a third
level list. This seems to avoid the issue, and is arguably better formatting in
its own right (at least its not a regression IMHO)

Roy Franz c38cf865ec EFI: ignore EFI commandline, skip console setup when booted from GRUB
Update EFI code to completely ignore the EFI comnandline when booted from GRUB.
Previusly it was parsed of EFI boot specific options, but these aren't used
when booted from GRUB.

Don't do EFI console or video configuration when booted by GRUB. The EFI boot
code does some console and video initialization to support native EFI boot from
the EFI boot manager or EFI shell. This initlization should not be done when
booted using GRUB.

Update EFI documentation to indicate that it describes EFI native boot, and
does not apply at all when Xen is booted using GRUB.

Jan Beulich 5680244040 EFI: allow to suppress the use of runtime services
On certain systems some of the memory map entries designated for use by
runtime services cannot be mapped (frequently due to firmware bugs). On
others, some of the memory map entries aren't even marked for runtime
services use, yet are being used by them. For both cases give people a
way to suppress use of runtime services altogether.

Don Slutz 2d927fc41b x86: hvm: Allow configuration of the size of the mmio_hole.
If you add enough PCI devices then all mmio may not fit below 4G
which may not be the layout the user wanted. This allows you to
increase the below 4G address space that PCI devices can use and
therefore in more cases not have any mmio that is above 4G.

There are real PCI cards that do not support mmio over 4G, so if you
want to emulate them precisely, you may also need to increase the
space below 4G for them. There are drivers for these cards that also
do not work if they have their mmio space mapped above 4G.

This allows growing the MMIO hole to the size needed.

This may help with using pci passthru and HVM.

In the tools this is named mmio_hole_memkb.

Stefano Stabellini 7157012293 introduce gnttab_max_frames and gnttab_max_maptrack_frames command line options
Introduce gnttab_max_maptrack_frames: a new Xen command line option to
specify the max number of maptrack frames per domain.
Deprecate the old gnttab_max_nr_frames and introduce gnttab_max_frames
instead, that doesn't affect the maptrack. Keep gnttab_max_nr_frames for
compatibility.

Rename internally max_nr_grant_frames to max_grant_frames to avoid
confusions.

Introduce DEFAULT_MAX_MAPTRACK_FRAMES, that is completely independent
from max_nr_grant_frames.

Remove MAX_MAPTRACK_TO_GRANTS_RATIO that is now only used in one place
for compatibility.

Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk 204c7a873f docs: EFI configuration file must be ASCII type
Currently Xen can only read the configuration file if it is in ASCII
format. If it is in CHAR16 or CHAR8 it will choke. One way to verify
this is to use 'file':

xen.cfg: ASCII text
xen-char16.cfg: Little-endian UTF-16 Unicode text, with CRLF, CR line terminators

The latter is no good.

Ian Campbell 250073f452 docs: Introduce specification for x86 pv bootloader chainloading paths/formats.
In order to support pvgrub (or other bootloader) from dom0 chainloading a
pvgrub (or other) from within the domU filesystem we need a standard for where
the stage 1 bootloader should look and what it should expect to find there.

Add a document along those lines.

This is currently x86-specific since it is expected that other new architecures
(including ARM) will either not need to implement this due to the existence of
more generic specifications for that arch (e.g. the ARM VM spec) or will update
this document in due course.

David Scott 0c09b6495e xl: add support for 'channels'
This adds support for channel declarations of the form:

 channel = [ "name=...,connection=...[,path=...][,backend=...]" ]

where 'name' is a label to identify the channel to the frontend.

If 'connection = pty' then the channel is connected to a pty in the
 backend domain
If 'connection = socket' then the channel is connected to a Unix domain
socket given by 'path = ...' in the backend domain.

This patch also adds the command:

 xl channel-list <domain>

which allows the state of channels to be queried. In particular if
'connection=pty' this will show the path of the pty slave device.

David Scott 91418eecea libxl: add support for 'channels'
A 'channel':
  - is a low-bandwidth private communication channel that resembles
    a physical serial port.
  - is implemented as a PV console with a well-known string name
which is used to hook the channel to the appropriate software
in the guest (i.e. some kind of guest agent).
  - has a backend 'connection' which describes what should happen
    to the data.

The following 'connection' types are defined:

 * PTY: the I/O surfaces as a pty in the backend domain
 * SOCKET: a listening Unix domain socket accepts a connection in
   the backend domain and proxies

Channels may be listed but don't currently support hotplug/unplug.
