Julien Grall 5605cfd49a tools/misc: Use const whenever we point to literal strings
literal strings are not meant to be modified. So we should use const
char * rather than char * when we we to store a pointer to them.

Jan Beulich 7b36d16d21 xen-detect: make CPUID fallback CPUID-faulting aware
Relying on presence / absence of hypervisor leaves in raw / escaped
CPUID output cannot be used to tell apart PV and HVM on CPUID faulting
capable hardware. Utilize a PV-only feature flag to avoid false positive
HVM detection.

While at it also short circuit the main detection loop: For PV, only
the base group of leaves can possibly hold hypervisor information.

Juergen Gross 48d0c82264 tools/xen-detect: try sysfs node for obtaining guest type
Instead of relying on cpuid instruction behaviour to tell which domain
type we are just try asking the kernel via the appropriate sysfs node
(added in Linux kernel 4.13).

Keep the old detection logic as a fallback for older kernels.

Keir Fraser 51b4edac54 tools/x86_64: Fix cpuid() inline asm to not clobber stack's red zone
Pushing stuff onto the stack on x86-64 when we do not specify
-mno-red-zone is unsafe. Since the complicated asm is due to register
pressure on i386, we simply implement an all-new simpler alternative
for x86-64.

Keir Fraser 420820e830 xen-detect: Avoid dumping core
F12 introduces a tool to automatically report bugs when there are core
dumps. Since xen-detect relies on fork+waitpid in order to trap a
SIGILL from a child, every time someone runs xen-detect on a bare
metal kernel a bug is reported into Red Hat's Bugzilla. :-)

However, even without this contingent need, leaving core dumps around
is not nice. So this patch just traps SIGILL using
signal/sentjmp/longjmp, without the need to fork.
