Zheng Li ed4f4bb739 oxenstored: allow updates regardless of quota
Allow a domain updating existing xenstore keys even if it has already reached
its max entries limit

As updating existing key won't increase the number of entries belonging to a
domain, we should avoid checking the max entries limit prematurely. The patch
addresses this issue in the following functions: write/add, mkdir, setperms.

Rob Hoes 2f4f8ffc24 libxl: ocaml: provide defaults for libxl types
Libxl functions such as libxl_domain_create_new take large structs
of configuration parameters. Often, we would like to use the default
values for many of these parameters.

The struct and keyed-union types in libxl have init functions, which
fill in the defaults for a given type. This commit provides an OCaml
interface to obtain records of defaults by calling the relevant init
function.

These default records can be used as a base to construct your own
records, and to selectively override parameters where needed.

For example, a Domain_create_info record can now be created as follows:

  Xenlight.Domain_create_info.({ default ctx () with
    ty = Xenlight.DOMAIN_TYPE_PV;
    name = Some vm_name;
    uuid = vm_uuid;
  })

For types with KeyedUnion fields, such as Domain_build_info, a record
with defaults is obtained by specifying the type key:

  Xenlight.Domain_build_info.default ctx ~ty:Xenlight.DOMAIN_TYPE_HVM ()

Rob Hoes fe14c97ae8 libxl: ocaml: make Val_defbool GC-proof
In order to avoid newly created OCaml values from being GC'ed, they must be
registered as roots with the GC, before an iteration of the GC may happen. The
Val_* functions potentially allocate new values on the OCaml heap, and may
trigger an iteration of the OCaml GC.

The way to register a value with the GC is to assign it to a variable declared
with a CAMLparam or CAMLlocal macro, which put the value into a struct that
can be reached from a GC root.

This leads to slightly weird looking C code, but avoids hard to find segfaults.

Rob Hoes f25452103b libxl: ocaml: support for KeyedUnion in the bindings generator.
A KeyedUnion consists of two fields in the containing struct. First an
enum field ("e") used as a descriminator and second a union ("u")
containing potentially anonymous structs associated with each enum
value.

We map the anonymous structs to structs named after the descriminator
field ("e") and the specific enum values. We then declare an ocaml
variant type name e__union mapping each enum value to its associated
struct.

So given IDL:

foo = Enumeration("foo", [
    (0, "BAR"),
    (1, "BAZ"),
])
s = Struct("s", [
    ("u", KeyedUnion(none, foo, "blargle", [
        ("bar", Struct(...xxx...)),
        ("baz", Struct(...yyy...)),
    ])),
])

We generate C:

enum foo { BAR, BAZ };
struct s {
    enum foo blargle;
    union {
        struct { ...xxx... } bar;
        struct { ...yyy... } baz;
    } u;
}

and map this to ocaml

type foo = BAR | BAZ;

module S = struct

    type blargle_bar = ...xxx...;

    type blargle_baz = ...yyy...;

    type blargle__union = Bar of blargle_bar | Baz of blargle_baz;

    type t =
    {
        blargle : blargle__union;
    }
end

These type names are OK because they are already within the namespace
associated with the struct "s".

If the struct associated with bar is empty then we don't bother with
blargle_bar of "of blargle_bar".

No actually change in the generated code since we don't generate any
KeyedUnions yet.

Ian Jackson 331a3b6ff0 tools/ocaml: oxenstored: Be more paranoid about ring reading
oxenstored makes use of the OCaml Xenbus bindings, in which the
function xs_ring_read in tools/ocaml/libs/xb/xs_ring_stubs.c is used
to read from the shared memory Xenstore ring.

This function does not correctly handle all possible (prod, cons)
states when MASK_XENSTORE_IDX(prod) > MASK_XENSTORE_IDX(cons).

The root cause is the use of the unmasked values of prod and cons to
calculate to_read. If prod is set to an out-of-range value, the ring
peer can cause to_read to be too large or even negative. This allows
the ring peer to force oxenstored to read and write out of range for
the buffers leading to a crash or possibly to privilege escalation.

Correct this by masking the values of cons and prod at the start, so
we only deal with masked values. This makes the logic simpler, as
semantically inappropriate values of the upper bits of the ring
pointers are simply ignored.

The same vulnerability does not exist in the ring writer because the
only use made of the unmasked value is the check which prevents the
prod pointer overtaking the cons pointer. A ring peer which defeats
this check will suffer only lost data.

However, additionally, precautions need to be taken to ensure that
req_cons and req_prod are only read once in each function. Without
the use of volatile or some asm construct, the compiler can "prove"
that req_cons and req_prod do not change unexpectedly and is permitted
to "amplify" the read of (say) req_cons into two reads at different
times, giving two different values for use as cons, and then use the
two sources of cons interchangeably. (The use of xen_mb() does not
forbid this.)

Therefore do the reads of req_cons and req_prod through a volatile
pointer in both xs_ring_read and xs_ring_write.

This is currently believed to be a theoretical vulnerability as we are
not aware of any compilers which amplify reads in this way.

This is a security issue, part of XSA-38 / CVE-2013-0215.

This does not make the implementation fully asynchronous but just
updates the API to support asynchrony in the future.

Currently although these functions do not call hotplug scripts etc and
therefore are not "slow" (per the comment about ao machinery in
libxl_internal.h) they do interact with the device model and so are
not quite "fast" either. We can live with this for now.

Andrew Cooper 0bd69acf04 tools/ocaml: ignore and clean .spot and .spit files
Newer ocaml toolchains generate .spot and .spit files which are ocaml metadata
about their respective source files.

Add them to the clean rules as well as the .{hg,git}ignore files.

Split libxl_device_vfb_add into libxl__device_vfb_add (to be used

to call libxl__device_vfb_add.

Roger Pau Monne 2d40cd6513 libxl: convert libxl_device_nic_add to an async operation
This patch converts libxl_device_nic_add to an ao operation that
waits for device backend to reach state XenbusStateInitWait and then
marks the operation as completed. This is not really useful now, but
will be used by latter patches that will launch hotplug scripts after
we reached the desired xenbus state.

Calls to libxl_device_nic_add have also been moved to occur after the
device model has been launched, so when hotplug scripts are called
from this functions the interfaces already exists.

As usual, libxl_device_nic_add callers have been modified, and the
internal function libxl__device_disk_add has been used if the call was
inside an already running ao.

Roger Pau Monne ffdd57ae1b libxl: change ao_device_remove to ao_device
Introduce a new structure to track state of device backends, that will
be used in following patches on this series.

This structure if used for both device creation and device
destruction and removes libxl__ao_device_remove.
