Razvan Cojocaru 1ef5056bd6 tools/libxc, xen/x86: Added xc_set_mem_access_multi()
Currently it is only possible to set mem_access restrictions only for
a contiguous range of GFNs (or, as a particular case, for a single GFN).
This patch introduces a new libxc function taking an array of GFNs.
The alternative would be to set each page in turn, using a userspace-HV
roundtrip for each call, and triggering a TLB flush per page set.

Andrew Cooper a335a58e75 tools/migrate: Prevent PTE truncation from being fatal duing the live phase
It is possible, when normalising a PV pagetable that the table has been freed
and reused for something else by the guest.

In such a case, data read might no longer be a pagetable, and fail the
truncation check. However, this should only be fatal if we encounter such a
page in the paused phase.

This check is now consistent with all other checks in the same area.

Commit 91e204d37f ("libxc: try to find

This adds a new firmware module, system_firmware_module. It is loaded in

This patch create the hvm_start_info struct for HVM guest that have a

Anthony PERARD 0c42901e12 libxc: Rework extra module initialisation
This patch use xc_dom_alloc_segment() to allocate the memory space for the
ACPI modules and the SMBIOS modules. This is to replace the arbitrary
placement of 1MB (+ extra for MB alignement) after the hvmloader image.

This patch can help if one add extra ACPI table and hvmloader contain
OVMF (OVMF is a 2MB binary), as in that case the extra ACPI table could
easily be loaded past the address 4MB, but hvmloader use a range of
memory from 4MB to 10MB to perform tests and in the process, clears the
memory, before loading the modules.

Tamas K Lengyel f3356e1d4d x86/mem-sharing: mem-sharing a range of memory
Currently mem-sharing can be performed on a page-by-page basis from the control
domain. However, this process is quite wasteful when a range of pages have to
be deduplicated.

This patch introduces a new mem_sharing memop for range sharing where
the user doesn't have to separately nominate each page in both the source and
destination domain, and the looping over all pages happen in the hypervisor.
This significantly reduces the overhead of sharing a range of memory.

Tamas K Lengyel 94db5dbb6c x86/vm_event: add HVM debug exception vm_events
Since in-guest debug exceptions are now unconditionally trapped to Xen, adding
a hook for vm_event subscribers to tap into this new always-on guest event. We
rename along the way hvm_event_breakpoint_type to hvm_event_type to better
match the various events that can be passed with it. We also introduce the
necessary monitor_op domctl's to enable subscribing to the events.

This patch also provides monitor subscribers to int3 events proper access
to the instruction length necessary for accurate event-reinjection. Without
this subscribers manually have to evaluate if the int3 instruction has any
prefix attached which would change the instruction length.

Previously, subscribing to MSR write events was an all-or-none

allows the vm_event consumer to specify exactly what MSR-s it is
interested in, and as a side-effect gets rid of the
vmx_introspection_force_enabled_msrs[] special case.
The patch also introduces arch_monitor_init_domain() and

Juergen Gross 15fedd65a8 libxc: cpupools: adjust retry loop in xc_cpupool_removecpu()
Commit 1ef6beea18 ("libxc: do some retries in xc_cpupool_removecpu()
for EBUSY case") added a retry loop in xc_cpupool_removecpu() for the
EBUSY case. As EBUSY was returned in multiple error situations the
loop would have been executed in situations where a retry would not
be successful. Additionally calling sleep(1) between the rerires is a
bad idea when being called in a daemon.

The hypervisor has been changed to return different error values now.
The retry added in above mentioned commit should be done in the
EADDRINUSE case now. As the error condition should last only for a
very short time, the sleep(1) call can be removed.

Andrew Cooper 75f9455e92 tools/libxc: Calculate xstate cpuid leaf from guest information
The existing logic is broken for heterogeneous migration. By always
advertising the host maximum xstate, a migration to a less capable host always
fails as Xen cannot accomodate the xcr0_accum in the migration stream.

By calculating xstate from the feature information (which a multi-host
toolstack will have levelled appropriately), the guest will have the current
hosts maximum xstate advertised, allowing for correct migration to less
capable hosts.

In addition, some further improvements and corrections:
 - don't discard the known flags in sub-leaves 2..63 ECX

Roger Pau Monne ed04ca9598 libelf: rewrite symtab/strtab loading
Current implementation of elf_load_bsdsyms is broken when loading inside of
a HVM guest, because it assumes elf_memcpy_safe is able to write into guest
memory space, which it is not.

Take the oportunity to do some cleanup and properly document how
elf_{parse/load}_bsdsyms works. The new implementation uses elf_load_image
when dealing with data that needs to be copied to the guest memory space.
Also reduce the number of section headers copied to the minimum necessary.

This patch also removes the duplication of code found in the libxc ELF
loader, since the libelf symtab/strtab loading code will also handle this
case without having to duplicate it.

Wen Congyang 8903a7a5f6 libxc: support to resume uncooperative HVM guests
Before this patch:
1. Suspend
  a. PVHVM and PV: we use the same way to suspend the guest (send the
suspend request to the guest). If the guest doesn't support evtchn, the
xenstore variant will be used, suspending the guest via XenBus control
     node.
  b. Pure HVM: we call xc_domain_shutdown(..., SHUTDOWN_suspend) to suspend
     the guest.

2. Resume:
  a. Fast path (fast=1)
Do not change the guest state. We call libxl__domain_resume(.., 1) which
     calls xc_domain_resume(..., 1 /* fast=1*/) to resume the guest.
PV: Modify the return code to 1, and than call the domctl:
               XEN_DOMCTL_resumedomain
     PVHVM: same with PV
Pure HVM: Do nothing in modify_returncode, and than call the domctl:
               XEN_DOMCTL_resumedomain
  b. Slow path (fast=0)
Used when the guest's state have been changed. Will call
libxl__domain_resume(..., 0) to resume the guest.
PV: Update start info, and reset all secondary CPU states. Than call
               the domctl: XEN_DOMCTL_resumedomain
PVHVM: Can not be resumed. You will get the following error message:
               "Cannot resume uncooperative HVM guests"
     Pure HVM: Same with PVHVM

After this patch:
1. Suspend
  Unchanged.

2. Resume
  a. Fast path
     Unchanged.
  b. Slow path
     PV: Unchanged.
PVHVM: Call XEN_DOMCTL_resumedomain to resume the guest. Because we
don't modify the return code, PV drivers will disconnect
               and reconnect.
The guest ends up doing the XENMAPSPACE_shared_info
XENMEM_add_to_physmap hypercall and resetting all of its CPU
states to point to the shared_info (except the ones past 32).
That is the Linux kernel does that - regardless whether the
               SCHEDOP_shutdown:SHUTDOWN_suspend returns 1 or not.
Pure HVM: Call XEN_DOMCTL_resumedomain to resume the guest.

Under COLO, we will update the guest's state (modify memory, CPU registers,
device state etc). In this case, we cannot use the fast path to resume it.
Keep the return code 0, and use the slow path to resume the guest.

Wen Congyang c4f5894974 secondary vm suspend/resume/checkpoint code
Secondary vm is running in colo mode. So we will do
the following things again and again:
1. Resume secondary vm
   a. Send CHECKPOINT_SVM_READY to master.
   b. If it is not the first resume, call libxl__checkpoint_devices_preresume().
   c. If it is the first resume(resume right after live migration),
      - call libxl__xc_domain_restore_done() to build the secondary vm.
      - enable secondary vm's logdirty.
      - call libxl__domain_resume() to resume secondary vm.
      - call libxl__checkpoint_devices_setup() to setup checkpoint devices.
   d. Send CHECKPOINT_SVM_RESUMED to master.
2. Wait a new checkpoint
   a. Call libxl__checkpoint_devices_commit().
   b. Read CHECKPOINT_NEW from master.
3. Suspend secondary vm
   a. Suspend secondary vm.
   b. Call libxl__checkpoint_devices_postsuspend().
   c. Send CHECKPOINT_SVM_SUSPENDED to master.
4. Checkpoint

Wen Congyang d34ef46bc4 libxc/migration: export read_record for common use
read_record() could be used by primary to read dirty bitmap
record sent by secondary under COLO.
When used by xc save side, we need to pass the backchannel fd
instead of ctx->fd to read_record(), so we added a fd param to
it.
No functional changes.
