Jason Andryuk ddc2dd1264 xenconsole: Add connection flag
With hyperlaunch, a domU can start before its console ring is connected
by xenconsoled. With nothing emptying the ring, it can quickly fill
during boot. In domU_write_console(), __write_console() returns 0 when
the ring is full. This loops spins until xenconsoled starts emptying
the ring:

        while (len) {
                ssize_t sent = __write_console(cons, data, len);

                if (sent < 0)
                        return sent;

                data += sent;
                len -= sent;

                if (unlikely(len))
                        HYPERVISOR_sched_op(SCHEDOP_yield, NULL);
        }

The goal of this patch is to add a way for the frontend to know when a
console is connected. This patch adds a new flag to the end of the
console ring structure. It is used for the backend to indicate that it
has connected and started servicing the page.

The two values are
XENCONSOLE_DISCONNECTED 1
XENCONSOLE_CONNECTED    0

XENCONSOLE_DISCONNECTED indicates to the guest that ring is
disconnected, so it will not be serviced. The guest can avoid writing
into it in that case. A domU can use console hypercalls and only
transition to the ring when it is connected and won't fill and block.

Once the backend (xenconsoled) maps and starts servicing the
console, the flag will be set to XENCONSOLE_CONNECTED (0) to indicate
the backend state to the frontend.

The connected value as 0 will be match the default of a zero-ed console
page. Hyperlaunch can set the flag to XENCONSOLE_DISCONNECTED and let
xenconsoled set to XENCONSOLE_CONNECTED.

Old domU hvc_xen drivers won't check the flag.
New domU hvc_xen running on a new xen/xenconsoled will work properly.
New domU hvc_xen on old xen/xenconsoled should only see a 0 for the flag
and behave as if connected.

This leaves a few grant table related functions which go via privcmd

The new library uses a version script to ensure that only expected

These functions do not appear to be needed by qemu-dm, qemu-pv
(provision of device model to HVM guests and PV backends respectively)
or by libvchan suggesting they are not needed by non-toolstack uses of
event channels. QEMU does use these in hw/xenpv/xen_domainbuild.c but
that is a "toolstack use".

The new library uses a version script to ensure that only expected
symbols are exported and to version them such that ABI guarantees can
be kept in the future.

Ross Lagerwall 26d4eebee8 xenconsoled: Remove unexpected daemonize behavior
Previously, xenconsoled's daemonize function would do nothing if its
parent process is init (as it is under systemd but not sysv init).
This is confusing. Instead, always daemonize when asked to, but use the
"interactive" switch when running from the systemd service.

Because a pidfile is only written when daemonizing, drop the pidfile
parameters from the service file (systemd keeps track of the pids
anyway).

The only remaining mentions of these addresses are in COPYING files which I
haven't touched.

Some of the changed files are imports from elsewhere, however
filtering them out is tricky, I think it is tolerable to have these
files be modified here and then perhaps reverted on the next sync,
since it's only 1-2 lines and obvious what is going on.

Julien Grall 506f87ba82 tools/xenconsoled: Use XC_PAGE_SIZE rather than getpagesize()
Linux may not use the same page granularity as Xen. This will result to
a domain crash because it will try to map more page than required.

As the console page size will always be equal to a Xen page size, use
XC_PAGE_SIZE.

Andrew Cooper 588df84c0d tools/xenconsoled: Increase file descriptor limit
XenServer's VM density testing uncovered a regression when moving from
sysvinit to systemd where the file descriptor limit dropped from 4096 to
1024. (XenServer had previously inserted a ulimit statement into its
initscripts.)

One solution is to use LimitNOFILE=4096 in xenconsoled.service to match the
lost ulimit, but that is only a stopgap solution.

As Xenconsoled genuinely needs a large number of file descriptors if a large
number of domains are running, attempt to increase the limit.

When xenconsoled starts, there will be log lines in the Xen console ring from
boot, even though VIRQ_CON_RING is not yet pending.

Add a force option to handle_hv_logs() which bypasses the event channel check,
allowing xenconsoled to drain the Xen boot messages when it starts, rather
than at the first subsequent time that VIRQ_CON_RING becomes set.

Andrew Cooper 63a04d97a0 tools/xenconsoled: Possibly perform repeated xc_readconsolering() hypercalls
The size of the Xen console ring is runtime configurable, so the statically
sized 16k buffer is not necessarily sufficient. Make repeated
xc_readconsolering() hypercalls while Xen managed to completely fill the
provided buffer.

Also, change the buffer to being static to save on stack space.
