Anthony PERARD 40d96f0c7d tools: Remove -Werror everywhere else
The previous changeset, e4f5949c44 ("tools: Add -Werror by default to all
tools/"), added "-Werror" to CFLAGS in tools/Rules.mk. Remove it from
everywhere else now it is duplicated.

Roger Pau Monne e270af9428 tools/firmware: do not add a .note.gnu.property section
Prevent the assembler from creating a .note.gnu.property section on
the output objects, as it's not useful for firmware related binaries,
and breaks the resulting rombios image.

This requires modifying the cc-option Makefile macro so it can test
assembler options (by replacing the usage of the -S flag with -c) and
also stripping the -Wa, prefix if present when checking for the test
output.

Roger Pau Monne 7225f6e0cd tools/firmware: fix setting of fcf-protection=none
Setting the fcf-protection=none option in EMBEDDED_EXTRA_CFLAGS in the
Makefile doesn't get it propagated to the subdirectories, so instead
set the flag in firmware/Rules.mk, like it's done for other compiler
flags.

Roger Pau Monné 73b13705af firmware: provide a stand alone set of headers
The current build of the firmware relies on having 32bit compatible
headers installed in order to build some of the 32bit firmware.
Usually this can be solved by using the -ffreestanding compiler option
which drops the usage of the system headers in favor of a private set
of freestanding headers provided by the compiler itself that are not
tied to libc.

However such option is broken at least in the gcc compiler provided in
Alpine Linux, as the system include path (ie: /usr/include) takes
precedence over the gcc private include path:

#include <...> search starts here:
 /usr/include
 /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-alpine-linux-musl/10.2.1/include

And the headers in /usr/include are exclusively 64bit.

Since -ffreestanding is currently broken on at least that distro, and
for resilience against future compilers also having the option broken
provide a set of stand alone 32bit headers required for the firmware
build.

Andrew Cooper 0eae016b6e tools/firmware: Build firmware as -ffreestanding
firmware should always have been -ffreestanding, as it doesn't execute in the
host environment. -ffreestanding implies -fno-builtin, so replace the option.

inttypes.h isn't a freestanding header, but the 32bitbios_support.c only wants
the stdint.h types so switch to the more appropriate include.

This removes the build time dependency on a 32bit libc just to compile the
hvmloader and friends.

Update README and the TravisCI configuration.

Olaf Hering 338c437515 tools: pass EXTRA_CFLAGS via environment
Currently qemu-xen will be compiled with CFLAGS only if CFLAGS was
already in the environment during make invocation. If CFLAGS is in
environment then make will append all of the various flags specified in
xen Makefiles to this environment variable, which is then used in qemu
configure. Since qemu-xen is not ready for compiler flags like
"-std=gnu99" compilation will fail. If CFLAGS is not in environment,
then configure will use just its own "-O2 -g" because make does not
export its own CFLAGS variable.

>From a distro perspective, it is required to build libraries and
binaries with certain global cflags (arbitrary gcc options). Up to the
point when qemu-xen was imported it worked as expected by exporting
CFLAGS before 'make tools'. Now qemu-upstream reuses these CFLAGS, but
it cant deal with the result.

This patch extends the tools Makefiles so that three new environment
variables are recognized:
EXTRA_CFLAGS_XEN_TOOLS= specifies CFLAGS for the tools build.
EXTRA_CFLAGS_QEMU_TRADITIONAL= specifies CFLAGS for old qemu.
EXTRA_CFLAGS_QEMU_XEN= specifies CFLAGS for new qemu.

Special care needs to be taken in tools/firmware because the resulting
binaries are not linked with the hosts runtime libraries. These binaries
run in guest context. To avoid build errors from gcc options like
-fstack-protector, reuse existing practice to unset the new
EXTRA_CFLAGS_XEN_TOOLS for the firmware dirs.

The new feature can be used like this in a rpm xen.spec file:

   export EXTRA_CFLAGS_XEN_TOOLS="${RPM_OPT_FLAGS}"
   export EXTRA_CFLAGS_QEMU_TRADITIONAL="${RPM_OPT_FLAGS}"
   export EXTRA_CFLAGS_QEMU_XEN="${RPM_OPT_FLAGS}"
   ./configure \
   	--libdir=%{_libdir} \
   	--prefix=/usr
   make
