Wei Liu 91cee732e3 libxl: convert libxl__sprintf(gc) to GCSPRINTF
The rune used is:

  sed -i 's/libxl__sprintf(gc,\s*/GCSPRINTF(/g' libxl*.c

This rune is simple and better than trying to match every possible
patterns.

Two instances in libxl_dm.c need fixing up. They are in fact better to just
use libxl__strdup.

Wei Liu db82cd9251 libxl: convert to use LOG() macro
This patch converts most LIBXL__LOG* macros to LOG macro. It's done with
spatch plus some hand coding.

Using spatch rune:

    spatch --in-place --no-includes --include-headers \
        --sp-file libxl.spatch \
        tools/libxl/libxl*.c

with some exceptions.

libxl_json.c is untouched because the notion of ctx is in fact referring
to yajl context.

libxl_qmp.c is untouched because libxl ctx is buried in qmp context.

libxl_fork.c is untouched because it's clearer to just use original
code.

Some fallouts are dealt with manually. There are three categories.

Functions that don't have gc defined. Add gc definition with GC_INIT.
Also try my best to make them conform with libxl coding style.

 * libxl_list_domain
 * libxl_domain_info
 * libxl_domain_pause
 * libxl_get_physinfo
 * libxl_domain_set_nodeaffinity
 * libxl_domain_get_nodeaffinity
 * libxl_get_scheduler

 * libxl_fd_set_cloexec
 * libxl_fd_set_nonblock
 * libxl__init_recursive_mutex
 * READ_WRITE_EXACTLY
 * libxl__ao_complete_check_progress_reports

Functions don't need ctx variable anymore after conversion. Delete that
variable.

 * libxl__device_from_disk
 * domcreate_rebuild_done
 * domcreate_devmodel_started
 * domcreate_attach_pci
 * libxl__domain_device_model
 * libxl__build_device_model_args_new

 * libxl__device_pci_assignable_remove
 * libxl__xenstore_child_wait_deprecated
 * libxl__xs_libxl_path
 * libxl__device_model_version_running

Special handling for some functions.

 * ao__abort: easier to just use original code.
 * e820_sanitize: should have taken gc instead of ctx

Both xl's LOG and the various libxl logging mechanisms automatically
include a trailing \n.

Remove all unnecessary \n's from the logs messages with the following

spatch also reindents (I couldn't see how to make it stop). In general
it has improved matters but in 1 case it has introduced a long line,
this will be fixed in the next patch.

George Dunlap 2ba368d138 libxl: Remove linux udev rules
They are no longer needed, having been replaced by a daemon for
driverdomains which will run scripts as necessary.

Worse yet, they seem to be broken for script-based block devices, such
as block-iscsi. This wouldn't matter so much if they were never run
by default; but if you run block-attach without having created a
domain, then the appropriate node to disable running udev scripts will
not have been written yet, and the attach will silently fail.

Rather than try to sort out that issue, just remove them entirely.

Wei Liu a788fe0cd8 libxl: rework domain userdata file lock
The lock introduced in d2cd9d4f ("libxl: functions to lock / unlock
libxl userdata store") has a bug that can leak the lock file when domain
destruction races with other functions that try to get hold of the lock.

There are several issues:
1. The lock is released too early with libxl__userdata_destroyall
   deletes everything in userdata store, including the lock file.
2. The check of domain existence is only done at the beginning of lock
   function, by the time the lock is acquired, the domain might have
   been gone already.

The effect of this two issues is we can run into such situation:

     Process 1 Process 2 domain destruction
   # LOCK FUNCTION # LOCK FUNCTION
    check domain existence check domain existence
                                    acquire lock (file created)
                                   # LOCK FUNCTION
                                    destroy all files (lock file deleted,
                                                       lock released)
    acquire lock (file created)
   # LOCK FUNCTION                  destroy domain
                                   # UNLOCK (close fd only)
   [ lock file leaked ]

Fix this problem by deploying following changes:

1. Unlink lock file in unlock function.
2. Modify libxl__userdata_destroyall to not delete domain-userdata-lock,
   so that the lock remains held until unlock function is called.
3. Check domain still exists when the lock is acquired, unlock if
   domain is already gone.

Wei Liu af1f8aa989 libxl: store a copy of configuration when creating domain
The configuration is stored in libxl-json format. It will be used as
template to reconstruct domain configuration during runtime.

There's only one write to disk when domain creation finishes. We
therefore have a window that the domain exists but has no JSON config in
disk. We define this state as domain being created or destroyed. Any
other operations that need to access JSON config should bail.

Wei Liu d2cd9d4f56 libxl: functions to lock / unlock libxl userdata store
This lock is used to protect all userdata files related to a particular
domain, which include but are not limited to domain configuration. A
new "domain-userdata-lock" entry is introduced in libxl registry.

This lock works among different processes and different threads within
the same process.

Locking protocol inspired by Ian Jackson's chiark-utils with-lock-ex. A
file lock is taken with flock(2). If that succeeds that thread fstat the
fd and stat the lock file path. If the device and inode match then the
lock has been successfully acquired. This lock remains acquired until
the lock file gets deleted or released by flock(2). If device and inode
don't match then another thread acquired the lock and deleted the file
in the meantime; lock procedure should restart.

Portability note: this lock utilises flock(2) so a proper implementation
of flock(2) is required -- that is, it should not be implemented with
fcntl(2).

Ian Jackson 27e1ccd1db libxl: Do not pass NULL as gc_opt; introduce NOGC
In 25182:6c3345d7e9d9 the practice of passing NULL to gc-using memory
allocation functions was introduced. However, the arrangements there
were not correct as committed, because the error handling and logging
depends on getting a ctx from the gc - so an allocation error would in
fact result in libxl dereferencing NULL.

Instead, provide a special dummy gc in the ctx, called `nogc_gc'. It
is marked out specially by having alloc_maxsize==-1, which is
otherwise invalid.

Functions which need to actually look into the gc use the new test
function gc_is_real (whose purpose is mainly clarity of the code) to
check whether the gc is the dummy one, and do nothing if it is. And
we provide a helper macro NOGC which uses the in-scope real gc to find
the ctx and hence the dummy gc (and which replaces the previous
#define NOGC NULL).

Change all callers which pass 0 or NULL to an allocation function to
use NOGC or &ctx->nogc_gc, as applicable in the context.

We add a comment near the definition of LIBXL_INIT_GC pointing out
that it isn't any more the only place a libxl__gc struct is
initialised, for the benefit of anyone changing the contents of gc's
in the future.

Also, actually document that libxl__ptr_add is legal with ptr==NULL,
and change a couple of calls not to check for NULL argument.

Ian Campbell 731a050623 libxl: do not overwrite user supplied config when running bootloader
Currently when running the bootloader libxl will update b_info->u.pv.kernel,
.ramdisk, .cmdline and .bootloader. This can expose internal details, such
as temporary paths in /var/run/xen/bootloader.*/ to the user. This is
problematic because it means that the user cannot re-use the struct as is.

This does not effect xl in Xen 4.2+ since it always reparses the guest config
and reinitialises the build info, however it did cause issues with reboot in
4.1 (reported by Dmitry Morozhnikov) and may cause issues for other users of
libxl.

Instead make the libxl bootloader infrastructure provide output to its caller
which is slurped into the internal libxl__domain_build_state datastructure. If
no bootloader is configured then the bootloader instead propagates the user
supplied b_info config.

In order to simplify this push the error handling for the case where there is
no bootdisk down into libxl__bootloader_run. In principal there is no reason
why it shouldn't be possible to do a pure netboot guest with a suitable
bootloader, but I don't fix that here.

This change allow us to make the libxl_file_reference an internal API, and
eventually we might be able to get rid of it.

Also removes the publix libxl_run_bootloader interface, neither xl nor libvirt
use it.

I am proposing this for 4.2 due to the API change.

Ian Jackson 96d60b3e3e libxl: Make libxl__zalloc et al tolerate a NULL gc
Arrange that if we pass NULL as a gc, we simply don't register the
pointer. This instantly gives us non-gc'ing but error-checking
versions of malloc, realloc, vasprintf, etc.

Ian Jackson b77efdf32a libxl: Crash (more sensibly) on malloc failure
Formally change the libxl memory allocation failure policy to "crash".

Previously we had a very uneven approach; much code assumed that
libxl__sprintf (for example) would never return NULL, but some code
was written more carefully.

We think it is unlikely that we will be able to make the library
actually robust against allocation failure (since that would be an
awful lot of never-tested error paths) and few calling environments
will be able to cope anyway. So, instead, adopt the alternative
approach: provide allocation functions which never return null, but
will crash the whole process instead.

Consequently,
 - New noreturn function libxl__alloc_failed which may be used for
   printing a vaguely-useful error message, rather than simply
   dereferencing a null pointer.
 - libxl__ptr_add now returns void as it crashes on failure.
 - libxl__zalloc, _calloc, _strdup, _strndup, crash on failure using
   libxl__alloc_failed. So all the code that uses these can no longer
   dereference null on malloc failure.

While we're at it, make libxl__ptr_add use realloc rather than
emulating it with calloc and free, and make it grow the array
exponentially rather than linearly.

Things left to do:
 - Remove a lot of now-spurious error handling.
 - Remove the ERROR_NOMEM error code.

Ian Jackson 8fc051a10f libxl: move a lot more includes into libxl_internal.h
Move a lot of
  #include <stdfoo.h>
from individual files into libxl_internal.h. This helps avoid
portability mistakes where necessary system headers are omitted from
individual files, and is also of course a convenience when developing.

Also add
  #include "libxl_osdeps.h" /* must come before any other headers */
to the top of most libxl*.c files, so that anyone who adds any headers
before libxl_internal.h will put the in the right place.

Ian Jackson 8618d4e458 libxl: Rationalise #includes
libxl_internal.h now #includes libxl.h and various system headers.

This
 1. makes the order of header inclusion more predictable
 2. explicitly allows libxl_internal.h to use objects defined in libxl.h
 3. removes the need for individual files to include these headers

Also
 - remove some unnecessary #includes of libxl_utils.h,
   flexarray.h, etc. in some libxl*.c files,
 - include libxl_osdeps.h at the top of libxl_internal.h
 - add missing includes of libxl_osdeps.h to a couple of files
 - change libxl.h to libxl_internal.h in a couple of files
