We've been told by Intel that inconsistent cachability between
multiple mappings of the same page can affect system stability only
when the affected page is an MMIO one. Since the stale data issue is
of no relevance to the hypervisor (since all guest memory accesses go
through proper accessors and validation), handling of RAM pages
remains unchanged here. Any MMIO mapped by domains however needs to be
done consistently (all cachable mappings or all uncachable ones), in
order to avoid Machine Check exceptions. Since converting existing
cachable mappings to uncachable (at the time an uncachable mapping
gets established) would in the PV case require tracking all mappings,
allow MMIO to only get mapped uncachable (UC, UC-, or WC).
This also implies that in the PV case we mustn't use the L1 PTE update
fast path when cachability flags get altered.
Since in the HVM case at least for now we want to continue honoring
pinned cachability attributes for pages not mapped by the hypervisor,
special case handling of r/o MMIO pages (forcing UC) gets added there.
Arguably the counterpart change to p2m-pt.c may not be necessary, since
UC- (which already gets enforced there) is probably strict enough.
Note that the shadow code changes include fixing the write protection
of r/o MMIO ranges: shadow_l1e_remove_flags() and its siblings, other
than l1e_remove_flags() and alike, return the new PTE (and hence
ignoring their return values makes them no-ops).
This is CVE-2016-2270 / XSA-154.

The discussion in [1] lead to an agreement of the missing pieces in PVH
(or HVM without a device-model) in order to progress with it's
implementation.
One of the missing pieces is a new boot ABI, that replaces the PV boot
ABI. The aim of this new boot ABI is to remove the limitations of the
PV boot ABI, that are no longer present when using auto-translated
guests. The new boot protocol should allow to use the same entry point
for both 32bit and 64bit guests, and let the guest choose it's bitness
and paging mode at run time without the domain builder knowing in
advance.
This patch introduces a new document called hvmlite.markdown, with the
intention of merging it into pvh.markdown once the HVMlite implementation
has feature parity with PVH and the old PVH ABI is replaced with the
HVMlite one.

The Microsoft Hypervisor Top Level Functional Spec. (section 3.4) defines
two bits in CPUID leaf 0x40000004:EAX for the hypervisor to recommend
whether or not to issue a hypercall for local or remote TLB flush.
Whilst it's doubtful whether using a hypercall for local TLB flush would
be any more efficient than a specific INVLPG VMEXIT, a remote TLB flush
may well be more efficiently done. This is because the alternative
mechanism is to IPI all the vCPUs in question which (in the absence of
APIC virtualisation) will require emulation and scheduling of the vCPUs
only to have them immediately VMEXIT for local TLB flush.
This patch therefore adds a viridian option which, if selected, enables
the hypercall for remote TLB flush and implements it using ASID
invalidation for targetted vCPUs followed by an IPI only to the set of
CPUs that happened to be running a targetted vCPU (which may be the empty
set). The flush may be more severe than requested since the hypercall can
request flush only for a specific address space (CR3) but Xen neither
keeps a mapping of ASID to guest CR3 nor allows invalidation of a specific
ASID, but on a host with contended CPUs performance is still likely to
be better than a more specific flush using IPIs.
The implementation of the patch introduces per-vCPU viridian_init() and
viridian_deinit() functions to allow a scratch cpumask to be allocated.
This avoids needing to put this potentially large data structure on stack
during hypercall processing. It also modifies the hypercall input and
output bit-fields to allow a check for the 'fast' calling convention,
and a white-space fix in the definition of HVMPV_feature_mask (to remove
hard tabs).

XenServer already makes use of ~/control/feature-suspend being written
to advertise guest capability of responding to 'suspend' when written to
~/control/shutdown and, since they are derived from XenServer drivers,
the Xen Project Windows PV drivers attempt to write this value. The write
currently fails for libxl provisioned VMs because ~/control is read-only
to the guest (only ~/control/shutdown is writable, for ackowledgement
purposes).
This patch documents feature-suspend and also a set of similar control
feature flags, so that that they may be added to libxl provisioned
guests by subsequent patches:
feature-poweroff: PV drivers/agent can shut down the guest
feature-reboot: PV drivers/agent can reboot the guest
feature-s3: PV drivers/agent can trigger guest sleep (HVM only)
feature-s4: PV drivers/agent can trigger guest hibernate (HVM only)

also clarifies that the initial set of platform properties mentioned are
booleans, and updates the specifier accordingly.

Try to use "xen-qemuuser-domid$domid" first, then
"xen-qemuuser-shared" and root if everything else fails.
The uids need to be manually created by the user or, more likely, by the
xen package maintainer.
Expose a device_model_user setting in libxl_domain_build_info, so that
opinionated callers, such as libvirt, can set any user they like. Do not
fall back to root if device_model_user is set. Users can also set
device_model_user by hand in the xl domain config file.
QEMU is going to setuid and setgid to the user ID and the group ID of
the specified user, soon after initialization, before starting to deal
with any guest IO.
To actually secure QEMU when running in Dom0, we need at least to
deprivilege the privcmd and xenstore interfaces, this is just the first
step in that direction.

Although we already have 'gfx_passthru' in b_info, this doesn't suffice
after we want to handle IGD specifically. Now we define a new field of
type, gfx_passthru_kind, to indicate we're trying to pass IGD. Actually
this means we can benefit this to support other specific devices just
by extending gfx_passthru_kind. And then we can cooperate with
gfx_passthru to address IGD cases as follows:
gfx_passthru = 0 => sets build_info.u.gfx_passthru to false
gfx_passthru = 1 => sets build_info.u.gfx_passthru to true and
build_info.u.gfx_passthru_kind to DEFAULT
gfx_passthru = "igd" => sets build_info.u.gfx_passthru to true
and build_info.u.gfx_passthru_kind to IGD
Here if gfx_passthru_kind = DEFAULT, we will call
libxl__is_igd_vga_passthru() to check if we're hitting that table to need
to pass that option to qemu. But if gfx_passthru_kind = "igd" we always
force to pass that.
And "-gfx_passthru" is just introduced to work for qemu-xen-traditional
so we should get this away from libxl__build_device_model_args_new() in
the case of qemu upstream.
