Anthony PERARD 394dd1d2d4 libxl: Enhance libxl__sendmsg_fds to deal with EINTR and EWOULDBLOCK
This patch change the behavior of libxl__sendmsg_fds to retry sendmsg on
EINTR error and return an error on short writes.

This patch allow a caller of libxl__sendmsg_fds to deal with EWOULDBLOCK
and short writes. The function now requires to send only 1 byte of data
so that when dealing with non-blocking fds a EWOULDBLOCK error would
mean that the fds haven't been sent yet. Current caller already send
only 1 byte.

Chris Patterson b9daff9d81 libxl: replace deprecated readdir_r() with readdir()
Replace the usage of readdir_r() with readdir() to address a
compilation error under glibc due to the deprecation of readdir_r
for their next release (2.24) [1, 2].

Remove code specific to usage of readdir_r which is no longer required,
such as zalloc_dirent().

--

From the GNU libc manual [3]:
"
It is expected that future versions of POSIX will obsolete readdir_r and
mandate the level of thread safety for readdir which is provided by the
GNU C Library and other implementations today.
"

There is a filed bug in the Austin Group Defect Tracker [4] in which 'dalias'
proposes (in comment 0001632) that:
"
I would like to propose an alternate solution. For readdir, replace the text:
"The readdir() function need not be thread-safe."
   with:
"If multiple threads call the readdir() function with the same directory
stream argument and without synchronization to preclude simultaneous
access, then the behavior is undefined."

With this change, the clunky readdir_r function is no longer needed or
useful, and should probably be deprecated. As the only reasonable way
to meet the implementation requirements for readdir is to have the dirent
buffer in the DIR structure, this change should not require any change to
   existing implementations.

Ian Campbell b021beb21a tools: libxl: NULL terminate partially constructed hex string
Coverity (correctly) complains that the strncpy(p, "0x", 2) will not
null terminate p.

Although we can see that in the rest of the function p will
definitely be NULL terminated by the time it is complete there is no
harm in passing 3 to the strncpy and allowing it to NULL terminate to
placate Coverity. We know this is safe because the allocation to hold
the string includes a "+3" for the 0x and the terminating NULL.

Compile tested only.

Wei Liu db82cd9251 libxl: convert to use LOG() macro
This patch converts most LIBXL__LOG* macros to LOG macro. It's done with
spatch plus some hand coding.

Using spatch rune:

    spatch --in-place --no-includes --include-headers \
        --sp-file libxl.spatch \
        tools/libxl/libxl*.c

with some exceptions.

libxl_json.c is untouched because the notion of ctx is in fact referring
to yajl context.

libxl_qmp.c is untouched because libxl ctx is buried in qmp context.

libxl_fork.c is untouched because it's clearer to just use original
code.

Some fallouts are dealt with manually. There are three categories.

Functions that don't have gc defined. Add gc definition with GC_INIT.
Also try my best to make them conform with libxl coding style.

 * libxl_list_domain

Wei Liu 1c098487d3 libxl: allow copying between bitmaps of different sizes
When parsing bitmap objects JSON parser will create libxl_bitmap map of the
smallest size needed.

This can cause problems when saved image file specifies CPU affinity. For
example, if 'vcpu_hard_affinity' in the saved image has only the first CPU
specified, just a single byte will be allocated and libxl_bitmap->size will be
set to 1.

This will result in assertion in libxl_set_vcpuaffinity()->libxl_bitmap_copy()
since the destination bitmap is created for maximum number of CPUs.

We could allocate that bitmap of the same size as the source, however, it is
later passed to xc_vcpu_setaffinity() which expects it to be sized to the max
number of CPUs

To fix this issue, introduce an internal function to allowing copying between
bitmaps of different sizes. Note that this function is only used in
libxl_set_vcpuaffinity at the moment. Though NUMA placement logic invoke
libxl_bitmap_copy as well there's no need to replace those invocations. NUMA
placement logic comes into effect when no vcpu / node pinning is provided, so
it always operates on bitmap of the same sizes (that is, size of maximum
number of cpus /nodes).

Andrew Cooper 81b0305048 tools/libxl: Don't read off the end of tinfo[]
It is very common for BIOSes to advertise more cpus than are actually present
on the system, and mark some of them as offline. This is what Xen does to
allow for later CPU hotplug, and what BIOSes common to multiple different
systems do to to save fully rewriting the MADT in memory.

An excerpt from `xl info` might look like:

...
nr_cpus : 2
max_cpu_id : 3
...

Which shows 4 CPUs in the MADT, but only 2 online (as this particular box is
the dual-core rather than the quad-core SKU of its particular brand)

Because of the way Xen exposes this information, a libxl_cputopology array is
bounded by 'nr_cpus', while cpu bitmaps are bounded by 'max_cpu_id + 1'.

The current libxl code has two places which erroneously assume that a
libxl_cputopology array is as long as the number of bits found in a cpu
bitmap, and valgrind complains:

Dario Faggioli 2e82c18cd8 libxc/libxl: sanitize error handling in *_get_max_{cpus, nodes}
In libxc, make xc_get_max_{cpus,node}() always return either a
positive number or -1, and change all the callers to deal with
that.

In libxl, make libxl_get_max_{cpus,nodes}() always return either a
positive number or a libxl error code. Thanks to that, it is also
possible to fix loggig for libxl_{cpu,node}_bitmap_alloc(), which
now happens inside the functions themselves, more accurately
reporting what happened.

Daniel De Graaf ef496b81f0 libxl: postpone backend name resolution
This adds a backend_domname field in libxl devices that contain a
backend_domid field, allowing either a domid or a domain name to be
specified in the configuration structures. The domain name is resolved
into a domain ID in the _setdefault function when adding the device.
This change allows the backend of the block devices to be specified
(which previously required passing the libxl_ctx down into the block
device parser), and will simplify specification of backend domains in
other users of libxl.

The check on run_hotplug_scripts in parse_config_data is removed because
it is a duplicate of the one in libxl__device_nic_setdefault, and is
removed here because it no longer has the resolved domain ID to check.

Dario Faggioli ea12318767 libxl: rename libxl_cpumap to libxl_bitmap
And leave to the caller the burden of knowing and remembering what kind
of bitmap each instance of libxl_bitmap is.

This is basically just some s/libxl_cpumap/libxl_bitmap/ (and some other
related interface name substitution, e.g., libxl_for_each_cpu) in a bunch
of files, with no real functional change involved.

A specific allocation helper is introduced, besides libxl_bitmap_alloc().
It is called libxl_cpu_bitmap_alloc() and is meant at substituting the old
libxl_cpumap_alloc(). It is just something easier to use in cases where one
wants to allocate a libxl_bitmap that is going to serve as a cpu map.

This is because we want to be able to deal with both cpu and NUMA node
maps, but we don't want to duplicate all the various helpers and wrappers.

While at it, add the usual initialization function, common to all libxl
data structures.

Ian Jackson 27e1ccd1db libxl: Do not pass NULL as gc_opt; introduce NOGC
In 25182:6c3345d7e9d9 the practice of passing NULL to gc-using memory
allocation functions was introduced. However, the arrangements there
were not correct as committed, because the error handling and logging
depends on getting a ctx from the gc - so an allocation error would in
fact result in libxl dereferencing NULL.

Instead, provide a special dummy gc in the ctx, called `nogc_gc'. It
is marked out specially by having alloc_maxsize==-1, which is
otherwise invalid.

Functions which need to actually look into the gc use the new test
function gc_is_real (whose purpose is mainly clarity of the code) to
check whether the gc is the dummy one, and do nothing if it is. And
we provide a helper macro NOGC which uses the in-scope real gc to find
the ctx and hence the dummy gc (and which replaces the previous
#define NOGC NULL).

Change all callers which pass 0 or NULL to an allocation function to
use NOGC or &ctx->nogc_gc, as applicable in the context.

We add a comment near the definition of LIBXL_INIT_GC pointing out
that it isn't any more the only place a libxl__gc struct is
initialised, for the benefit of anyone changing the contents of gc's
in the future.

Also, actually document that libxl__ptr_add is legal with ptr==NULL,
and change a couple of calls not to check for NULL argument.
