Juergen Gross 5b18843067 tools: rename xen-tools/libs.h file to common-macros.h
In order to better reflect the contents of the header and to make it
more appropriate to use it for different runtime environments like
programs, libraries, and firmware, rename the libs.h include file to
common-macros.h. Additionally add a comment pointing out the need to be
self-contained.

* Add X86_{CPUID,MSR}_POLICY_FORMAT checks which were missed previously.
 * Drop test_suite(). It hasn't been necessary since the Py2.3 era.
 * Drop the __main__ logic. This can't be used without manually adjusting the

Marek Marczykowski-Górecki 897257ba49 tools/python: change 's#' size type for Python >= 3.10
Python < 3.10 by default uses 'int' type for data+size string types
(s#), unless PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is defined - in which case it uses
Py_ssize_t. The former behavior was removed in Python 3.10 and now it's
required to define PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN before including Python.h, and using
Py_ssize_t for the length argument. The PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN behavior is
supported since Python 2.5.

Adjust bindings accordingly.

Jan Beulich 2107cc76db libxc: split xc_logdirty_control() from xc_shadow_control()
For log-dirty operations a 64-bit field is being truncated to become an
"int" return value. Seeing the large number of arguments the present
function takes, reduce its set of parameters to that needed for all
operations not involving the log-dirty bitmap, while introducing a new
wrapper for the log-dirty bitmap operations. This new function in turn
doesn't need an "mb" parameter, but has a 64-bit return type. (Using the
return value in favor of a pointer-type parameter is left as is, to
disturb callers as little as possible.)

While altering xc_shadow_control() anyway, also adjust the types of the
last two of the remaining parameters.

Andrew Cooper baa4d064e9 tools: Delete XEN_DOMCTL_disable_migrate
It is conceptually wrong for this information to exist in the hypervisor in
the first place. Only the toolstack is capable of correctly reasoning about
the non-migrateability of guests.

This hypercall has only ever existed to control the visibility of the
Invariant TSC flag to the guest. Now that we have properly disentanged that
and moved ITSC into the guests CPUID policy, delete this hypercall.

Furthermore, this fixes a corner case where Xen would override the toolstacks
choice of ITSC for a xenstore stubdomain. That said, init-xenstore-domain
doesn't currently ask for ITSC, and MiniOS doesn't know what ITSC is either,
so nothing actually changes in practice.

Andrew Cooper 6f71b5b150 docs/migration Specify migration v3 and STATIC_DATA_END
Migration data can be split into two parts - that which is invariant of
guest execution, and that which is not. Separate these two with the
STATIC_DATA_END record.

The short term, we want to move the x86 CPU Policy data into the stream.
In the longer term, we want to provisionally send the static data only
to the destination as a more robust compatibility check. In both cases,
we will want a callback into the higher level toolstack.

Mandate the presence of the STATIC_DATA_END record, and declare this v3,
along with instructions for how to compatibly interpret a v2 stream.

Andrew Cooper 1430c5a8ca tools/python: Python 3 compatibility
convert-legacy-stream is only used for incomming migration from pre Xen 4.7,
and verify-stream-v2 appears to only be used by me during migration
development - it is little surprise that they missed the main converstion
effort in Xen 4.13.

Fix it all up.

Move open_file_or_fd() into a new util.py to avoid duplication, making it a
more generic wrapper around open() or fdopen().

In libxc.py, drop all long() conversion. Python 2 will DTRT with int => long
promotion, even on 32bit builds.

In convert-legacy-stream, don't pass empty strings to write_record(). Join on
the empty argl will do the right thing.

George Dunlap f2ae59bc4b Rationalize max_grant_frames and max_maptrack_frames handling
Xen used to have single, system-wide limits for the number of grant
frames and maptrack frames a guest was allowed to create. Increasing
or decreasing this single limit on the Xen command-line would change
the limit for all guests on the system.

Later, per-domain limits for these values was created. The system-wide
limits became strict limits: domains could not be created with higher
limits, but could be created with lower limits. However, that change
also introduced a range of different "default" values into various
places in the toolstack:

- The python libxc bindings hard-coded these values to 32 and 1024,
  respectively
- The libxl default values are 32 and 1024 respectively.
- xl will use the libxl default for maptrack, but does its own default
calculation for grant frames: either 32 or 64, based on the max
  possible mfn.

These defaults interact poorly with the hypervisor command-line limit:

- The hypervisor command-line limit cannot be used to raise the limit
for all guests anymore, as the default in the toolstack will
  effectively override this.
- If you use the hypervisor command-line limit to *reduce* the limit,
then the "default" values generated by the toolstack are too high,
and all guest creations will fail.

In other words, the toolstack defaults require any change to be
effected by having the admin explicitly specify a new value in every
guest.

In order to address this, have grant_table_init treat negative values
for max_grant_frames and max_maptrack_frames as instructions to use the
system-wide default, and have all the above toolstacks default to passing
-1 unless a different value is explicitly configured.

This restores the old behavior in that changing the hypervisor command-line
option can change the behavior for all guests, while retaining the ability
to set per-guest values. It also removes the bug that reducing the
system-wide max will cause all domains without explicit limits to fail.

NOTE: - The Ocaml bindings require the caller to always specify a value,
and the code to start a xenstored stubdomain hard-codes these to 4
and 128 respectively; this behavour will not be modified.

errors from the set_tsc hypercall.

Andrew Cooper 4737fa52ce tools: Pass max_vcpus to XEN_DOMCTL_createdomain
XEN_DOMCTL_max_vcpus is a mandatory hypercall, but nothing actually prevents a
toolstack from unpausing a domain with no vcpus.

Originally, d->vcpus[] was an embedded array in struct domain, but c/s
fb442e217 "x86_64: allow more vCPU-s per guest" in Xen 4.0 altered it to being
dynamically allocated. A side effect of this is that d->vcpu[] is NULL until
XEN_DOMCTL_max_vcpus has completed, but a lot of hypercalls blindly
dereference it.

Even today, the behaviour of XEN_DOMCTL_max_vcpus is a mandatory singleton
call which can't change the number of vcpus once a value has been chosen.

In preparation to remote the hypercall, extend xen_domctl_createdomain with
the a max_vcpus field and arrange for all callers to pass the appropriate
value. There is no change in construction behaviour yet, but later patches
will rearrange the hypervisor internals.

For the python stubs, extend the domain_create keyword list to take a
max_vcpus parameter, in lieu of deleting the pyxc_domain_max_vcpus function.

Andrew Cooper a903bf5233 tools: Pass grant table limits to XEN_DOMCTL_set_gnttab_limits
XEN_DOMCTL_set_gnttab_limits is a fairly new hypercall, and is strictly

createdomain time.

In preparation to remove the hypercall, extend xen_domctl_createdomain with
the fields and arrange for all callers to pass appropriate details. There is
no change in construction behaviour yet, but later patches will rearrange the
hypervisor internals, then delete the hypercall.

Andrew Cooper 4a83497635 xen/domctl: Merge set_max_evtchn into createdomain
set_max_evtchn is somewhat weird. It was introduced with the event_fifo work,
but has never been used. Still, it is a bounding on resources consumed by the

editable after the fact.

Drop XEN_DOMCTL_set_max_evtchn completely (including XSM hooks and libxc

Andrew Cooper 54ed251dc7 tools: Rework xc_domain_create() to take a full xen_domctl_createdomain
In future patches, the structure will be extended with further information,
and this is far cleaner than adding extra parameters.

The python stubs are the only user which passes NULL for the existing config
option (which is actually the arch substructure). Therefore, the #ifdefary
moves to compensate.

For libxl, pass the full config object down into
libxl__arch_domain_{prepare,save}_config(), as there are in practice arch
specific settings in the common part of the structure (flags s3_integrity and
oos_off specifically).

No practical change in behaviour.

Paul Durrant a2d9a6fa1f tools/libxenctrl: use new xenforeignmemory API to seed grant table
A previous patch added support for priv-mapping guest resources directly
(rather than having to foreign-map, which requires P2M modification for
HVM guests).

This patch makes use of the new API to seed the guest grant table unless
the underlying infrastructure (i.e. privcmd) doesn't support it, in which
case the old scheme is used.

NOTE: The call to xc_dom_gnttab_hvm_seed() in hvm_build_set_params() was
actually unnecessary, as the grant table has already been seeded
by a prior call to xc_dom_gnttab_init() made by libxl__build_dom().

Andrew Cooper 73771b89fd tools: Drop xc_cpuid_check() and bindings
There are no current users which I can locate. One piece of xend which didn't
move forwards into xl/libxl is this:

  # Configure host CPUID consistency checks, which must be satisfied for this
  # VM to be allowed to run on this host's processor type:
  #cpuid_check=[ '1:ecx=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx1xxxxx' ]
  # - Host must have VMX feature flag set

The implementation of xc_cpuid_check() is conceptually broken. Dom0's view of
CPUID is not the approprite view to check, and will be wrong in the presence
of CPUID masking/faulting, and for HVM-based toolstack domains.

If it turns out that the functionality is required, it should be implemented
in terms of XEN_SYSCTL_get_cpuid_policy to use the proper CPUID view.
