It previously mimicked the getdomaininfo sysctl semantics by returning
the first domid higher than the requested domid that does exist. This
unintuitive behaviour causes quite a few mistakes and makes the call
needlessly slow in its error path.
This patch removes the fallback search, returning -ESRCH if the requested
domain doesn't exist. Domain discovery can still be done through the sysctl
interface as that performs a linear search on the list of domains.
With this modification the xc_domain_getinfo() function is deprecated and
removed to make sure it's not mistakenly used expecting the old behaviour.
The new xc wrapper is xc_domain_getinfo_single().
All previous callers of xc_domain_getinfo() have been updated to use
xc_domain_getinfo_single() or xc_domain_getinfolist() instead. This also
means xc_dominfo_t is no longer used by anything and can be purged.

This patch adds basic support for configuring and assisting virtio-mmio
based virtio-disk backend (emulator) which is intended to run out of
Qemu and could be run in any domain.
Although the Virtio block device is quite different from traditional
Xen PV block device (vbd) from the toolstack's point of view:
- as the frontend is virtio-blk which is not a Xenbus driver, nothing
written to Xenstore are fetched by the frontend currently ("vdev"
is not passed to the frontend). But this might need to be revised
in future, so frontend data might be written to Xenstore in order to
support hotplugging virtio devices or passing the backend domain id
on arch where the device-tree is not available.
- the ring-ref/event-channel are not used for the backend<->frontend
communication, the proposed IPC for Virtio is IOREQ/DM
it is still a "block device" and ought to be integrated in existing
"disk" handling. So, re-use (and adapt) "disk" parsing/configuration
logic to deal with Virtio devices as well.
For the immediate purpose and an ability to extend that support for
other use-cases in future (Qemu, virtio-pci, etc) perform the following
actions:
- Add new disk backend type (LIBXL_DISK_BACKEND_STANDALONE) and reflect
that in the configuration
- Introduce new disk "specification" and "transport" fields to struct
libxl_device_disk. Both are written to the Xenstore. The transport
field is only used for the specification "virtio" and it assumes
only "mmio" value for now.
- Introduce new "specification" option with "xen" communication
protocol being default value.
- Add new device kind (LIBXL__DEVICE_KIND_VIRTIO_DISK) as current
one (LIBXL__DEVICE_KIND_VBD) doesn't fit into Virtio disk model
An example of domain configuration for Virtio disk:
disk = [ 'phy:/dev/mmcblk0p3, xvda1, backendtype=standalone, specification=virtio']
Nothing has changed for default Xen disk configuration.
Please note, this patch is not enough for virtio-disk to work
on Xen (Arm), as for every Virtio device (including disk) we need
to allocate Virtio MMIO params (IRQ and memory region) and pass
them to the backend, also update Guest device-tree. The subsequent
patch will add these missing bits. For the current patch,
the default "irq" and "base" are just written to the Xenstore.
This is not an ideal splitting, but this way we avoid breaking
the bisectability.

select whether hardware assisted virtualization should be used for
x{2}APIC.
A per-domain option is added to xl in order to select the usage of
x{2}APIC hardware assisted virtualization, as well as a global
configuration option.
Having all APIC interaction exit to Xen for emulation is slow and can
induce much overhead. Hardware can speed up x{2}APIC by decoding the
APIC access and providing a VM exit with a more specific exit reason
than a regular EPT fault or by altogether avoiding a VM exit.
On the other hand, being able to disable x{2}APIC hardware assisted
virtualization can be useful for testing and debugging purposes.
Note:
- vmx_install_vlapic_mapping doesn't require modifications regardless
of whether the guest has "Virtualize APIC accesses" enabled or not,
i.e., setting the APIC_ACCESS_ADDR VMCS field is fine so long as
virtualize_apic_accesses is supported by the CPU.
- Both per-domain and global assisted_x{2}apic options are not part of
the migration stream, unless explicitly set in the respective
configuration files. Default settings of assisted_x{2}apic done
internally by the toolstack, based on host capabilities at create
time, are not migrated.

Add XEN_SYSCTL_PHYSCAP_X86_ASSISTED_XAPIC and
XEN_SYSCTL_PHYSCAP_X86_ASSISTED_X2APIC to report accelerated xAPIC and
x2APIC, on x86 hardware. This is so that xAPIC and x2APIC virtualization
can subsequently be enabled on a per-domain basis.
No such features are currently implemented on AMD hardware.
HW assisted xAPIC virtualization will be reported if HW, at the
minimum, supports virtualize_apic_accesses as this feature alone means
that an access to the APIC page will cause an APIC-access VM exit. An
APIC-access VM exit provides a VMM with information about the access
causing the VM exit, unlike a regular EPT fault, thus simplifying some
internal handling.
HW assisted x2APIC virtualization will be reported if HW supports
virtualize_x2apic_mode and, at least, either apic_reg_virt or
virtual_intr_delivery. This also means that
sysctl follows the conditionals in vmx_vlapic_msr_changed().
For that purpose, also add an arch-specific "capabilities" parameter
to struct xen_sysctl_physinfo.
Note that this interface is intended to be compatible with AMD so that
AVIC support can be introduced in a future patch. Unlike Intel that
has multiple controls for APIC Virtualization, AMD has one global
'AVIC Enable' control bit, so fine-graining of APIC virtualization
control cannot be done on a common interface.

Add monitor event that hooks the vmexit handler allowing for both sync and
async monitoring of events. With async monitoring an event is placed on the

If there are additional monitor events configured those will also place their
respective events on the monitor ring.
With the sync version an event is placed on the monitor ring but the handler
does not get resumed, thus the sync version is only useful when the VM is not
expected to resume normally after the vmexit. Our use-case is primarily with
the sync version with VM forks where the fork gets reset after sync vmexit
event, thus the rest of the vmexit handler can be safely skipped. This is
very useful when we want to avoid Xen crashing the VM under any circumstance,
for example during fuzzing. Collecting all vmexit information regardless of
the root cause makes it easier to reason about the state of the VM on the

Add parameter vpmu to xl domain configuration syntax
to enable the access to PMU registers by disabling
the PMU traps(currently only for ARM).
The current status is that the PMU registers are not
virtualized and the physical registers are directly
accessible when this parameter is enabled. There is no
interrupt support and Xen will not save/restore the
register values on context switches.
According to Arm Arm, section D7.1:
"The Performance Monitors Extension is common
to AArch64 operation and AArch32 operation."
That means we have an ensurance that if PMU is
present in one exception state, it must also be
present in the other.
Please note that this feature is experimental.

For log-dirty operations a 64-bit field is being truncated to become an
"int" return value. Seeing the large number of arguments the present
function takes, reduce its set of parameters to that needed for all
operations not involving the log-dirty bitmap, while introducing a new
wrapper for the log-dirty bitmap operations. This new function in turn
doesn't need an "mb" parameter, but has a 64-bit return type. (Using the
return value in favor of a pointer-type parameter is left as is, to
disturb callers as little as possible.)
While altering xc_shadow_control() anyway, also adjust the types of the
last two of the remaining parameters.

_hcbuf_buf1 has been there only for a pointer comparison to validate
type compatibility. The same can be achieved by not using typeof() on
the definition of what so far was _hcbuf_buf2, as the initializer has
to also be type-compatible. Drop _hcbuf_buf1 and the comaprison;
rename _hcbuf_buf2.
Since we're already using compiler extensions here, don't be shy and
also omit the middle operand of the involved ?: operator.

Current unit8_t for pirq argument in this interface is too restrictive
causing failures on modern hardware with lots of GSIs. That extends down to
XEN_DOMCTL_irq_permission ABI structure where it needs to be fixed up
as well.
Internal Xen structures appear to be fine. Existing users of the interface
in tree (libxl, ocaml and python bindings) are currently using signed int
for pirq representation which should be wide enough. Converting them to
uint32_t now is desirable to avoid accidental passing of a negative
number (probably denoting an error code) by caller as pirq, but left for
the future clean up.
Domctl interface version is needed to be bumped with this change but that
was already done by 918b8842a8 ("arm64: Change type of hsr, cpsr, spsr_el1
to uint64_t") in this release cycle.
Additionally, take a change and convert allow_access argument to bool.

Commit 918b8842a8 ("arm64: Change type of hsr, cpsr, spsr_el1 to
uint64_t") updated the size of the structure vcpu_guest_core_regs and
indirectly vcpu_guest_context.
On Arm, the two structures are only accessible to the tools and the
hypervisor (and therefore stable). However, they are still checked
by the scripts in tools/include/xen-foreign are not able to understand
that.
Ideally we should rework the scripts so we don't have to update
the size for non-stable structure. But I don't have limited time
to spend on the issue. So chose the simple solution and update
the size accordingly.
Note that we need to keep vcpu_guest_core_regs around because
the structure is used by vcpu_guest_context and therefore the
scripts expects the generated header to contain it.

There are some internals in the libxenstore interface which should be
removed.
Move those functions into xs_lib.c and the related definitions into
xs_lib.h. Remove the functions from the mapfile. Add xs_lib.o to
xenstore_client as some of the internal functions are needed there.
Bump the libxenstore version to 4.0 as the change is incompatible.
Note that the removed functions should not result in any problem as
they ought to be used by xenstored or xenstore_client only.
Avoid an enum as part of a structure as the size of an enum is
compiler implementation dependent.

The core of a pv linux guest produced via "xl dump-core" is nor usable
as since kernel 4.14 only the linear p2m table is kept if Xen indicates
it is supporting that. Unfortunately xc_core_arch_map_p2m() is still
supporting the 3-level p2m tree only.
Fix that by copying the functionality of map_p2m() from libxenguest to
libxenctrl.
Additionally the mapped p2m isn't of a fixed length now, so the
interface to the mapping functions needs to be adapted. In order not to
add even more parameters, expand struct domain_info_context and use a
pointer to that as a parameter.
