Juergen Gross d290e32517 build system: don't let install-stubdom depend on install-tools
There is no reason for the install-stubdom target to depend on
install-tools. It is absolutely reasonable to install new stubdoms
only.

Wei Liu 0cc73e9870 build: fix tarball stubdom build
When we create a source code tarball, mini-os is extracted to
extras/mini-os directory. When building a source code tarball, we
shouldn't clone mini-os again.

Only clone mini-os when that directory doesn't exist. This fixes tarball
build and doesn't affect non-tarball build.

Provide mini-os url and revision in Config.mk

Make stubdom targets depend on mini-os-dir target. Make
subtree-force-update{,-all} depend on mini-os-dir-force-update.

Also make mktarball script generate mini-os archive.

Original mini-os directory is renamed to mini-os-intree to help reduce

Wei Liu 56c002976f Makefile: refactor build/clean/distclean targets
Factor out per-subsystem build/clean/distclean-% targets, so that we can
build subsystems independently in top level directory.

The motive behind this is after splitting out mini-os from Xen tree,
stubdom is in effect a downstream of mini-os. I would like to have the
ability to build it independently and instrument OSSTest to test it.

Olaf Hering 6feb6b1282 Remove dead qemu variables from toplevel Makefile
The variables should have been removed already in
7ed06911dc ("Remove dead qemu code from
toplevel Makefile"), but I did not spot it at this time.
Now it looks like the intention initially was to let the install-tools
depend on tools/qemu-xen-traditional-dir. But that did not work because
there was the typo in the variables (TGT vs. TARGET), and
CONFIG_QEMU_TRAD was not defined anyway.

So remove QEMU_TRAD_DIR_TARGET and QEMU_XEN_DIR_TARGET because they are
not defined at all.

Olaf Hering 7ed06911dc Remove dead qemu code from toplevel Makefile
After commit b0f69ec5c7 ("tools: Make
qemu-xen-traditional build optional.") the existing make targets are
wrapped in ifeq ($(CONF),y), but CONF is never set because
config/Tools.mk is not included.

Drop the dead code. The same effect can be achieved by calling the make
commands directly, after calling configure.

A better approach would be a simple, single 'make $something' which
should be a wrapper around a targets in tools/Makefile that clones,
updates and cleans the subprojects. That has to be worked out in a
different patch.

Olaf Hering 3df671ec26 tools: fix make uninstall
The uninstall target does not know about the paths it removes because
the toplevel Makefile does not include the required files.

Move the commands to tools/Makefile because all files come from subdirs
in tools/ anyway. Drop the removal of $(XEN_RUN_DIR) because it gets
created at runtime. Drop the removal of systemd related files because
the wildcard matches everything.

The proper fix is to remove the files and directories in the Makefiles
which install them. But this version is the least intrusive change at
this point.

George Dunlap d5fb9fb71a make: Make "src-tarball" target actually make a source tarball
At the moment, making a release tarball is an annoyingly manual
process that involves running "git archive" into a temporary directory.

Script this process up and make a target, so that the release manager
can simply type "make src-tarball-release" and have everything show up
nice and neat in dist/xen-$version.tar.gz. "make src-tarball" will
make a version number based on git describe, which will typically have
the most recent tag, number of commits since that tag, and the git
commit id of the current HEAD.

Luis R. Rodriguez 015330004e systemd: add xen systemd service and module files
This adds the systemd xen service / module files and integrates
support into the build system.

This goes in with AX_AVAILABLE_SYSTEMD() which will enable
systemd if development libraries have been found on your
build system. If you don't have systemd on target systems
for binaries built with systemd then the binary will not
work, you must explicitly disable systemd support if you
do not want to build systemd support.

When systemd libraries are present only systems that
have booted into systemd go through the systemd initialization,
otherwise the SysVinit is used.

These are originally based on the Fedora systemd files.

Changes made from Fedora's systemd files:

  * split sockets into two files to claim different permissions
  * Use /bin/sh -c exec to for a simple launcher implementation
  * enables systemd socket activation for C xenstored and Ocaml
    oxenstored
  * use sd_notify(), so change the service to Type=notify, because of
this we remove the PIDFile specification as we don't care for it, and let
systemd do its magic for us, this also means we don't have to fork
so we use --no-fork with systemd
  * defines a modules-load.d, its original source file will be shared
between systemd and old init systems
  * simplify service files with ConditionVirtualization=xen which uses
the built in systemd virtualization backend detection, these
service files will not be available to start on systems that do not
boot with xen as a hypervisor
  * use autoconf to replace @variable@ paths for us which piggy
backs on top of the latest autoconf changes to xen
  * removes oxenstored service file in favor of a system variable which
controls which which xentored to use at run time, we avoid multiple
    service files this way.
  * simplifies startup to not require polling on the sockets
as initial socket management is handled by systemd, we just
take on the socket later once anything pokes at it, a simple nc -U
(as root) on any of the sockets files can activate the service for example.
Anything queued up will be sent to us once we start. Socket activation
should in theory also let us dynamically switch between xenstores but more
importantly we could upgrade xenstored while keeping all active
socket communication queued up, but in order to take advantage of
this we eventually would need to remove the requirement of not being
able to bring down the xenstored. Even though active sockets are
supported since most libxl communication doesn't triggger a check
on the unix socket first administrators are encouraged to enable
the xenstored.service to triggger an initialization of the xenstored
upon bring up. Some systems also never use unix sockets for
communication with the xenstored and as such active sockets will
    not be used there.
  * allow for xenstored configuration through *either* of these
    configuration files:
	- /etc/sysconfig/xenstored
	- /etc/default/xenstored
The /etc/default/xenstored will let debian based systems do
the same, while SUSE/OpenSUSE/Fedora/RedHat can keep on chugging
with sysconfig. We leave these files all commented out by default
though given that for systemd we want to encourage not using them.
  * ensures we create the run directory as most systems will likely
be using a tmpfs for run dirs for the pid files
  * Some systems define the selinux context in the systemd Option for the
    /var/lib/xenstored tmpfs:
	Options=mode=755,context="system_u:object_r:xenstored_var_lib_t:s0"
For the upstream version we remove that and let systems specify the
context on their system /etc/default/xenstored or /etc/sysconfig/xenstored
$XENSTORED_MOUNT_CTX variable, with a default to none.
  * takes advantage of the shared xendomains helper for the xendomains
    service
  * Add the new dom0 that gets kicked off for disk backend access into
its own systemd service associated to xen

We end up with these systemd files:

General requirements:

  * proc-xen.mount
  * var-lib-xenstored.mount

xenstored:

  * xenstored.service
  * xenstored.socket
  * xenstored_ro.socket
  * xenconsoled.service
  * xen-qemu-dom0-disk-backend.service.in

Optional:

  * xendomains.service
  * xen-watchdog.service

As for integration with xen, we house keep all the systemd files
under a new directory tools/hotplug/Linux/systemd/ and will be targeted
by default when building on Linux systems if systemd development
libraries are present at build time.

The systemd files will be sanitized for meta @VARIABLES@ upon
configuration and installed upon the install target. Systems that
do not use systemd can still get systemd service unit files installed
if the build system enabled systemd support, this however does not
mandate a requirement of having systemd libraries present. Old init
scripts are always installed.

If you don't specify a prefix you will end up with the services
files under /usr/local/lib/systemd/system/ by default, and systemd
modules-load.d conf files under /usr/local/lib/modules-load.d/ which
systemd does look for (although it seems this is not documented).

Distributions are expected to provide their /usr/ prefix to end up in
the more generic location upon distribution install at
/usr/lib/systemd/system/ and /usr/lib/modules-load.d/ respectively.

Ian Campbell b0f69ec5c7 tools: Make qemu-xen-traditional build optional.
Now that we have upstream qemu people may want to avoid building this extra
code.

There is a little bit of trickery in stubdom/configure.ac to ensure that the
ioemu stubdom is only built if qemu-traditional is enabled.

libxl will return an error if a caller tries to build a domain using
qemu-xen-traditional when this support was disabled at build time. Since
qemu-xen-traditional has been historically tightly bound to the Xen releases I
don't see any value in supporting "3rd party" provision of
qemu-xen-traditional.

We also do not want/need this on ARM therefore default is on for x86 and off
otherwise.

conf/Tools.mk is included by tools/Rules.mk, and contains most of the

config.h is only used by libxl/xl to detect yajl_version.h.

Ian Jackson dcbc297aea tools: Revert seabios and upstream qemu build changes
These have broken the build and it seems to be difficult to fix. So
we will revert the whole lot for now, and await corrected patch(es).

Revert "fix the build when CONFIG_QEMU is specified by the user"
Revert "tools: fix permissions of git-checkout.sh"
Revert "scripts/git-checkout.sh: Is not bash specific. Invoke with /bin/sh."
Revert "Clone and build Seabios by default"
Revert "Clone and build upstream Qemu by default"
Revert "Rename ioemu-dir as qemu-xen-traditional-dir"
Revert "Move the ioemu-dir-find shell script to an external file"

Tim Deegan ad06dc009b Build target to wrap dist/install in a .deb archive.
Adds "make deb", which does a "make dist" build and wraps the
resulting dist/install files in dist/xen-<version>.deb

This is _not_ a "packaged" version of Xen for Debian users, nor is it
intended to compete with anyone else's packaging efforts. In
particular it doesn't do any of the boot-time or fstab fixups needed
to actually start the xen tools. It's just a quick hack for
developers to be able to quickly install and uninstall a Xen build on
a test box.

Ian Campbell cb6c757fa4 tools: provide explicit target for refetching/resetting qemu
This patch adds an explicit update mechanism:
  make tools/ioemu-dir-force-update
This isn't brilliant but is better than doing "cd tools/ioemu-remote
&& git reset --hard <sha1...>" by hand.

Note that invoking this target will destroy all working tree changes
made to qemu-xen.

Keir Fraser 4d0cb9ebfd Makefile: Serialise stubdom build after tools
Currently "make stubdom" on its own fails because it depends on files
being installed by the results of "make tools". This also means that
in some circumstances a parallel "make tools stubdom" (or "make all")
can fail due to races. So make "make stubdom" depend on "make tools"
having completed first.

Keir Fraser e4640b6f1f TXT: update Makefile to latest tboot tarfile
This patch updates the Makefile to download the latest version of
tboot, which supports the interface changes made recently. This
should go into 3.4, since 3.4 supports the new tboot interface.

Keir Fraser 11e1149fe0 tools: Always use sane upstream (`native') python paths
Previously, by default we would install our python modules into
/usr/lib/python/xen, for example /usr/lib/python/xen/__init__.py.
Upstream python's standard install location (a) includes the Python
version number and (b) puts things in site-packages by default.

Our best conjecture for the reason for this was an attempt to make the
installs portable between different python versions. However, that
doesn't work because compiled python modules (.pyc), and C python
extensions corresponding to one version of python, are not compatible
across different versions of python.

This is why upstream include the version number.

site-packages is the standard location for locally-installed packages
and is automatically included on the python search path.

In this change, we abandon our own unusual python path setup:

 * Invoke setup.py in an entirely standard manner. We pass
PREFIX and DESTDIR using the appropriate options provided by
setup.py for those purposes (adding them to setup.py calls
   which were previously lacking them).

 * Since the installation locations are now on the standard
python path, we no longer need to add anything to the path
in any of our python utilities. Therefore remove all that
code from every python script. (Many of these scripts
unconditionally added /usr/lib/python and /usr/lib64/python which
is wrong even in the old world.)

 * There is no longer any special `Xen python path'. xen-python-path
is no longer needed. It is no longer called by anything in our
tree. However since out-of-tree callers may still invoke it, we
retain it. It now prints a fixed string referring to a directory
which does not to exist; callers (who use it to augment their
python path) will thus add a nonexistent directory to their python
   path which is harmless.

 * Remove various workarounds including use of setup.py --home
(which is intended for something completely different).

 * Remove tests for the XEN_PYTHON_NATIVE_INSTALL build-time
environment variable. The new behaviour is the behaviour which we
should have had if this variable had been set. That is, it is now
as if this variable was always set but also bugs in the resulting
   install have been fixed.

This should be a proper fix for the bug addressed by c/s 19515.
