Anthony PERARD d57f1a7f3d libxc: Prepare a start info structure for hvmloader
... and load BIOS/UEFI firmware into guest memory.

This adds a new firmware module, system_firmware_module. It is loaded in
the guest memory and final location is provided to hvmloader via the
hvm_start_info struct.

This patch create the hvm_start_info struct for HVM guest that have a
device model, so this is now common code with HVM guest without device
model.

Juergen Gross 361db13b03 xen: Move the hvm_start_info C representation to the public headers
Instead of having several representation of hvm_start_info in C, define
it in public/arch-x86/hvm/start_info.h so both libxc and hvmloader can
use it.

Also move the comment describing the binary format to be alongside the

Tamas K Lengyel f3356e1d4d x86/mem-sharing: mem-sharing a range of memory
Currently mem-sharing can be performed on a page-by-page basis from the control
domain. However, this process is quite wasteful when a range of pages have to
be deduplicated.

This patch introduces a new mem_sharing memop for range sharing where
the user doesn't have to separately nominate each page in both the source and
destination domain, and the looping over all pages happen in the hypervisor.
This significantly reduces the overhead of sharing a range of memory.

Tamas K Lengyel 94db5dbb6c x86/vm_event: add HVM debug exception vm_events
Since in-guest debug exceptions are now unconditionally trapped to Xen, adding
a hook for vm_event subscribers to tap into this new always-on guest event. We
rename along the way hvm_event_breakpoint_type to hvm_event_type to better
match the various events that can be passed with it. We also introduce the
necessary monitor_op domctl's to enable subscribing to the events.

This patch also provides monitor subscribers to int3 events proper access
to the instruction length necessary for accurate event-reinjection. Without
this subscribers manually have to evaluate if the int3 instruction has any
prefix attached which would change the instruction length.

Razvan Cojocaru 490a39a1db vm_event: allow subscribing to write events for specific MSR-s
Previously, subscribing to MSR write events was an all-or-none
approach, with special cases for introspection MSR-s. This patch
allows the vm_event consumer to specify exactly what MSR-s it is
interested in, and as a side-effect gets rid of the
vmx_introspection_force_enabled_msrs[] special case.
The patch also introduces arch_monitor_init_domain() and
arch_monitor_cleanup_domain(), to do monitor-specific work
(as opposed to the previous way of doing all the setup in
vm_event_init_domain() / vm_event_cleanup_domain()).
This replaces the previously posted "xen: Filter out MSR write

Wen Congyang ccf7ac1404 tools/libx{l,c}: add back channel to libxc
In COLO mode, both VMs are running, and are considered in sync if the
visible network traffic is identical. After some time, they fall out of
sync.

At this point, the two VMs have definitely diverged. Lets call the
primary dirty bitmap set A, while the secondary dirty bitmap set B.

Sets A and B are different.

Under normal migration, the page data for set A will be sent from the
primary to the secondary.

However, the set difference B - A (the one in B but not in A, lets
call this C) is out-of-date on the secondary (with respect to the
primary) and will not be sent by the primary (to secondary), as it
was not memory dirtied by the primary. The secondary needs C page data
to reconstruct an exact copy of the primary at the checkpoint.

The secondary cannot calculate C as it doesn't know A. Instead, the
secondary must send B to the primary, at which point the primary
calculates the union of A and B (lets call this D) which is all the
pages dirtied by both the primary and the secondary, and sends all page
data covered by D.

In the general case, D is a superset of both A and B. Without the
backchannel dirty bitmap, a COLO checkpoint can't reconstruct a valid
copy of the primary.

We transfer the dirty bitmap on libxc side, so we need to introduce back
channel to libxc.

Note: it is different from the paper. We change the original design to
the current one, according to our following concerns:
1. The original design needs extra memory on Secondary host. When there's
multiple backups on one host, the memory cost is high.
2. The memory cache code will be another 1k+, it will make the review
   more time consuming.

Note: this patch merely adds new parameters to various prototypes and
functions. The new parameters are used in later patch called
"libxc/restore: send dirty pfn list to primary when checkpoint under
COLO".

Shuai Ruan f5a32c5b8e x86/HVM: differentiate IO/mem resources tracked by ioreq server
Currently in ioreq server, guest write-protected ram pages are
tracked in the same rangeset with device mmio resources. Yet
unlike device mmio, which can be in big chunks, the guest write-
protected pages may be discrete ranges with 4K bytes each. This
patch uses a seperate rangeset for the guest ram pages.

To differentiate the ioreq type between the write-protected memory
ranges and the mmio ranges when selecting an ioreq server, the p2m
type is retrieved by calling get_page_from_gfn(). And we do not
need to worry about the p2m type change during the ioreq selection
process.

Note: Previously, a new hypercall or subop was suggested to map
write-protected pages into ioreq server. However, it turned out
handler of this new hypercall would be almost the same with the
existing pair - HVMOP_[un]map_io_range_to_ioreq_server, and there's
already a type parameter in this hypercall. So no new hypercall
defined, only a new type is introduced.

and the underlying xenevtchn_bind_unbound_port in that it allows the
specification of the local domain rather than assuming self. This is
only useful during domain build.

Ian Campbell 3248691679 tools: Refactor foreign memory mapping into libxenforeignmemory
libxenforeignmemory will provide a stable API and ABI for mapping
foreign domain memory (subject to appropriate privileges).

The new library exposes an interface equivalent to
xc_map_foreign_memory_bulk, which all the other
xc_map_foreign_memory_* functions (which remain in libxc) are
implemented in terms of.

Upon request (via #define XC_WANT_COMPAT_MAP_FOREIGN_API) libxenctrl
will provide a compat API for the old names. This is used by qemu-xen
and qemu-trad as well as various in tree things (which required
de-dupping various #includes in some too to get the #define before the
first).

Ian Campbell b701ccc8ab tools: Remove xc_map_foreign_batch
It can trivially be replaced by xc_map_foreign_pages which is the
interface I want to move to going forward (by standardising on _bulk
but handling err=NULL as _pages does).

The callers of _batch are checking a mixture of a NULL return or
looking to see if the top nibble of the (usually sole) mfn they pass
has been modified to be non-zero to detect errors. _pages never
modifies the mfn it was given (it's const) and returns NULL on
failure, so adjust the error handling where necessary. Some callers
use a copy of the mfn array, for reuse on failure with _batch, which
is no longer necessary as _pages doesn't modify the array, however I
haven't cleaned that up here.

This reduces the twist maze of xc_map_foreign_* by one, which will be
useful when trying to come up with an underlying stable interface.

NetBSD and Solaris implemented xc_map_foreign_bulk in terms of
xc_map_foreign_batch via a compat layer, so xc_map_foreign_batch
becomes an internal osdep for them.

Ian Campbell 7a3543df83 tools/libxc: Remove osdep indirection for privcmd
The alternative backend (a xen-api/xapi shim) is no longer around and
so this stuff is now just baggage which is getting in the way of
refactoring libxenctrl.

Nested virt probably suffices for this use case now.

This was the last component of the osdep infrastructure, so all the
dynamic loading etc stuff all falls away too.

As part of this I was forced to investigate the twisty
xc_map_foreign_* maze, which I have added to the
toolstack-library-apis doc in the hopes of doing something sensible.

NetBSD and Solaris now call xc_map_foreign_bulk_compat directly from
their xc_map_foreign_bulk, which could have been achieved by using
some ifdefs around a renamed function. This will fall out in the wash
when these functions move to their own library.

Ian Campbell a71ad0fead tools: Refactor /dev/xen/gnt{dev,shr} wrappers into libxengnttab.
libxengnttab will provide a stable API and ABI for accessing the
grant table devices.

The functions are moved into the xengnt{tab, shr} namespace to make a
clean break from libxc and avoid ambiguity regarding which interfaces
are stable.

All in-tree users are updated to use the new names.

Upon request (via #define XC_WANT_COMPAT_GNTTAB_API) libxenctrl will
provide a compat API for the old names. This is used by qemu-xen for
the time being. qemu-xen-traditional is updated in lockstep.

This leaves a few grant table related functions which go via privcmd
(GNTTABOP) rather than ioctls on the /dev/xen/gnt* devices in
libxenctrl. Specifically:

  - xc_gnttab_get_version
  - xc_gnttab_map_table_v1
  - xc_gnttab_map_table_v2
  - xc_gnttab_op

These functions do not appear to be needed by qemu-dm, qemu-pv
(provision of device model to HVM guests and PV backends respectively)
or by libvchan suggesting they are not needed by non-toolstack uses of
event channels.

The new library uses a version script to ensure that only expected
symbols are exported and to version them such that ABI guarantees can
be kept in the future.

After this change libxenvchan no longer needs to link against
libxenctrl. It still needs xenctrl.h in one file for xen_mb and
friends.

It is now necessary to provide explicit versions of things for

appropriate xc_nognt???.c files which are compiled and linked on the

Boris Ostrovsky 38a048a3c6 libxc: Defer initialization of start_page for HVM guests
With commit 8c45adec18 ("libxc: create unmapped initrd in domain
builder if supported") location of ramdisk may not be available to
HVMlite guests by the time alloc_magic_pages_hvm() is invoked if the
guest supports unmapped initrd.

So let's move ramdisk info initialization (along with a few other
operations that are not directly related to allocating magic/special
pages) from alloc_magic_pages_hvm() to bootlate_hvm().

Since we now split allocation and mapping of the start_info segment
let's stash it, along with cmdline length, in xc_dom_image so that we
can check whether we are mapping correctly-sized range.

We can also stop using xc_dom_image.start_info_pfn and leave it for
PV(H) guests only.
