Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk d275ec9ca8 libxc/libxl/python/xenstat/ocaml: Use new XEN_VERSION hypercall
We change the xen_version libxc code to use the new hypercall.
Which of course means every user in the code base has to
be changed over.

It is important to note that the xc_version_op has a different
return semantic than the previous one. It returns negative
values on error (like the old one), but it also returns
an positive value on success (unlike the old one). The positive
value is the number of bytes copied in.

Note that both Ocaml and xenstat use tabs instead of four
spaces so they look quite odd.

Razvan Cojocaru 51c2291e14 vm_event: remove xc_mem_access_enable_emulate() and friends
xc_mem_access_enable_emulate() and xc_mem_access_disable_emulate()
are currently no-ops, that is all they do is set a flag that
nobody else checks. The user can already set the EMULATE flags in
the vm_event response if emulation is desired, and having an extra
check above that is not inherently safer, but it does complicate
(currenly unnecessarily) the API. This patch removes these
functions and the corresponding hypervisor code.

Shuai Ruan f5a32c5b8e x86/HVM: differentiate IO/mem resources tracked by ioreq server
Currently in ioreq server, guest write-protected ram pages are
tracked in the same rangeset with device mmio resources. Yet
unlike device mmio, which can be in big chunks, the guest write-
protected pages may be discrete ranges with 4K bytes each. This
patch uses a seperate rangeset for the guest ram pages.

To differentiate the ioreq type between the write-protected memory
ranges and the mmio ranges when selecting an ioreq server, the p2m
type is retrieved by calling get_page_from_gfn(). And we do not
need to worry about the p2m type change during the ioreq selection
process.

Note: Previously, a new hypercall or subop was suggested to map
write-protected pages into ioreq server. However, it turned out
handler of this new hypercall would be almost the same with the
existing pair - HVMOP_[un]map_io_range_to_ioreq_server, and there's
already a type parameter in this hypercall. So no new hypercall
defined, only a new type is introduced.

Ian Campbell 2d2f789577 tools: rename libxc's evtchn_port_or_error_t with an xc_ prefix
This is used only for xc_evtchn_alloc_unbound and the legacy/compat
versions of the old interfaces and avoids redefining the typedef. The
evtchn_port_or_error_t name is now used only be libxenevtchn.

None of the callers of xc_evtchn_alloc_unbound use the type
themselves.

NB xc_evtchn_alloc_unbound differs from xc_evtchn_bind_unbound_port
and the underlying xenevtchn_bind_unbound_port in that it allows the
specification of the local domain rather than assuming self. This is
only useful during domain build.

Ian Campbell 3248691679 tools: Refactor foreign memory mapping into libxenforeignmemory
libxenforeignmemory will provide a stable API and ABI for mapping
foreign domain memory (subject to appropriate privileges).

The new library exposes an interface equivalent to
xc_map_foreign_memory_bulk, which all the other
xc_map_foreign_memory_* functions (which remain in libxc) are
implemented in terms of.

Upon request (via #define XC_WANT_COMPAT_MAP_FOREIGN_API) libxenctrl
will provide a compat API for the old names. This is used by qemu-xen
and qemu-trad as well as various in tree things (which required
de-dupping various #includes in some too to get the #define before the
first).

Ian Campbell b701ccc8ab tools: Remove xc_map_foreign_batch
It can trivially be replaced by xc_map_foreign_pages which is the
interface I want to move to going forward (by standardising on _bulk
but handling err=NULL as _pages does).

The callers of _batch are checking a mixture of a NULL return or
looking to see if the top nibble of the (usually sole) mfn they pass
has been modified to be non-zero to detect errors. _pages never
modifies the mfn it was given (it's const) and returns NULL on
failure, so adjust the error handling where necessary. Some callers
use a copy of the mfn array, for reuse on failure with _batch, which
is no longer necessary as _pages doesn't modify the array, however I
haven't cleaned that up here.

This reduces the twist maze of xc_map_foreign_* by one, which will be
useful when trying to come up with an underlying stable interface.

NetBSD and Solaris implemented xc_map_foreign_bulk in terms of
xc_map_foreign_batch via a compat layer, so xc_map_foreign_batch
becomes an internal osdep for them.

Ian Campbell 7a3543df83 tools/libxc: Remove osdep indirection for privcmd
The alternative backend (a xen-api/xapi shim) is no longer around and
so this stuff is now just baggage which is getting in the way of
refactoring libxenctrl.

Nested virt probably suffices for this use case now.

This was the last component of the osdep infrastructure, so all the
dynamic loading etc stuff all falls away too.

As part of this I was forced to investigate the twisty
xc_map_foreign_* maze, which I have added to the
toolstack-library-apis doc in the hopes of doing something sensible.

NetBSD and Solaris now call xc_map_foreign_bulk_compat directly from
their xc_map_foreign_bulk, which could have been achieved by using
some ifdefs around a renamed function. This will fall out in the wash
when these functions move to their own library.

Ian Campbell a71ad0fead tools: Refactor /dev/xen/gnt{dev,shr} wrappers into libxengnttab.
libxengnttab will provide a stable API and ABI for accessing the
grant table devices.

The functions are moved into the xengnt{tab, shr} namespace to make a
clean break from libxc and avoid ambiguity regarding which interfaces
are stable.

All in-tree users are updated to use the new names.

Upon request (via #define XC_WANT_COMPAT_GNTTAB_API) libxenctrl will
provide a compat API for the old names. This is used by qemu-xen for
the time being. qemu-xen-traditional is updated in lockstep.

This leaves a few grant table related functions which go via privcmd
(GNTTABOP) rather than ioctls on the /dev/xen/gnt* devices in
libxenctrl. Specifically:

  - xc_gnttab_get_version
  - xc_gnttab_map_table_v1
  - xc_gnttab_map_table_v2
  - xc_gnttab_op

These functions do not appear to be needed by qemu-dm, qemu-pv
(provision of device model to HVM guests and PV backends respectively)
or by libvchan suggesting they are not needed by non-toolstack uses of
event channels.

The new library uses a version script to ensure that only expected
symbols are exported and to version them such that ABI guarantees can
be kept in the future.

After this change libxenvchan no longer needs to link against
libxenctrl. It still needs xenctrl.h in one file for xen_mb and
friends.

Jan Beulich b7007bc6f9 x86/HVM: avoid pointer wraparound in bufioreq handling
The number of slots per page being 511 (i.e. not a power of two) means
that the (32-bit) read and write indexes going beyond 2^32 will likely
disturb operation. Extend I/O req server creation so the caller can
indicate that it is using suitable atomic accesses where needed (not
all accesses to the two pointers really need to be atomic), allowing
the hypervisor to atomically canonicalize both pointers when both have
gone through at least one cycle.

As suggested by Andrew Cooper, this patch attempts to remove
some redundancy and allow for an easier time when adding vm_events
for new control registers in the future, by having a single
VM_EVENT_REASON_WRITE_CTRLREG vm_event type, meant to serve CR0,
CR3, CR4 and (newly introduced) XCR0. The actual control register

Jan Beulich f5b43e95fa libxl: fix "xl mem-set" regression from 0c029c4da2
Said commit ("libxl_set_memory_target: retain the same maxmem offset on
top of the current target") caused a regression for "xl mem-set"
against Dom0: While prior to creation of the first domain this works,
the first domain creation involving ballooning breaks. Due to "enforce"
not being set in the domain creation case, and due to Dom0's initial
->max_pages (in the hypervisor) being UINT_MAX, the calculation of
"memorykb" in the first "xl mem-set" adusting the target upwards
subsequent to domain creation and termination may cause an overflow,
resulting in Dom0's maximum getting to a very small value. This small
maximum will the make the subsequent setting of the PoD target fail.

Yang Hongyang ebbbf9a1fe tools/libxc: add a check in xc_hypercall_buffer_free_pages macro
When we use a DECLARE_HYPERCALL_BUFFER_SHADOW it defines a user
pointer '_name' and a shadow xc_hypercall_buffer_t.
When calling xc_hypercall_buffer_free_pages(_xch, _name, _nr),
the complier will report '_name' unused error, because
xc_hypercall_buffer_free_pages() is a MACRO and '_name' is
transparently converted to the hypercall buffer. it confuses
the caller because xc_hypercall_buffer_free_pages() looks
like a function and takes '_name' as an arg.
Add an if check to let the compiler think we are actually
using the argument '_name'.

Yang Hongyang 22c06289dc tools/libxc: unused attribute in DECLARE_HYPERCALL_BUFFER_SHADOW
There are cases where we only need to use the hypercall buffer data,
and do not use the xc_hypercall_buffer_t struct.
DECLARE_HYPERCALL_BUFFER_SHADOW defines a user pointer that can allow
us to access the hypercall buffer data but it also defines a
xc_hypercall_buffer_t that we don't use, the compiler will report arg
unused error.
Add __attribute__((unused)) before xc_hypercall_buffer_t to avoid
the compiler error.

Example cases:
In send_all_pages(), we only need to use the hypercall buffer data
which is a dirty bitmap, we set the dirty bitmap to all dirty and call
send_dirty_pages, we will not use the xc_hypercall_buffer_t and hypercall
to retrieve the dirty bitmap.
In send_some_pages(), we will also only need to use the dirty_bitmap.
the retrieve dirty bitmap hypercall are done by the caller.

Julien Grall b49a7517bb xen/arm: Implement hypercall DOMCTL_{, un}bind_pt_pirq
On x86, an IRQ is assigned in 2 steps to an HVM guest:
    - The toolstack is calling PHYSDEVOP_map_pirq in order to create a
guest PIRQ (IRQ bound to an event channel)
    - The emulator (QEMU) is calling DOMCTL_bind_pt_irq in order to
    bind the IRQ

On ARM, there is no concept of PIRQ as the IRQ can be assigned to a
virtual IRQ using the interrupt controller.

It's not clear if we will need 2 different hypercalls on ARM to assign
IRQ and, for now, only the toolstack will manage IRQ.

In order to avoid re-using a fixed ABI hypercall (PHYSDEVOP_*) for a
different purpose and allow us more time to figure out the right out,
only DOMCTL_{,un}bind_pt_pirq is implemented on ARM.

The DOMCTL is extended with a new type PT_IRQ_TYPE_SPI and only IRQ ==
vIRQ (i.e machine_irq == spi) is supported.

In order to keep the same XSM checks done by the 2 hypercalls on x86,
call both xsm_map_domain_irq & xsm_bind_pt_irq in the ARM implementation.

Note: The toolstack changes for routing an IRQ to a guest will be done
in a separate patch.

Julien Grall a7511905fa xen: Extend DOMCTL createdomain to support arch configuration
On ARM the virtual GIC may differ between each guest (emulated GIC version,
number of SPIs...). This information is already known at the domain creation
and can never change.

For now only the gic_version is set. In the long run, there will be more
parameters such as the number of SPIs. All will be required to be set at the
same time.

A new arch-specific structure arch_domainconfig has been created, the x86
one doesn't have any specific configuration, for now, a dummy structure
(C-spec compliant) has been created.

Some external tools (qemu, xenstore) may be required to create a domain.
Rather than asking them to take care of the arch-specific domain
configuration, let the current function (xc_domain_create) chose a
default configuration and introduce a new one (xc_domain_create_config).

This patch also drops the previously introduced DOMCTL arm_configure_domain
in Xen 4.5, as it has been made useless.
