This document contains several 0xa0 characters (non-breaking spaces). These do
not display correctly in (some) terminals or when the document is rendered by (some)
browsers. Re-encode them as spaces.
I'm not confident that this change will make it through being encoded as a patch
and sent through email. Its effect can be replicated with:
perl -i -p -e 's/\xa0/ /g' docs/misc/sedf_scheduler_mini-HOWTO.txt
[ I ran the rune rather than trying to apply the patch -iwj ]

I have confirmed that the relevant pages have been transitioned.
What remains is pages which have not yet been moved over:
$ rgrep xenwiki *
tools/libxen/README:http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenApi
tools/xenballoon/xenballoond.README:http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/Open_Topics_For_Discussion?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=Memory+Overcommit.pdf
Note that "PythonInXlConfig" never existed in the old wiki and does not exist
in the new. This reference was introduced by 22735:cb94dbe20f97 and was
supposed to have been written prior to the 4.1 release. I have transitioned it
anyway but it's not clear how valuable the message actually is. Perhaps we
should just remove that aspect of it?

I think these are better off deleted than remaining to confuse people.
docs/misc/blkif-drivers-explained.txt:
- Talks about Xen 2.0 beta, talks about the old pre-xenstored IPC mechanism.
docs/misc/cpuid-config-for-guest.txt:
- Doesn't really say anything, in particular doesn't actually describe how to
configure CPUID.
docs/misc/hg-cheatsheet.txt:
- Not out of date per-se wrt mercural but talk about Xen 2.0 and gives URLs
under www.cl.cam.ac.uk. Talks a lot about bitkeeper. Given that mercurial is
hardly unusual anymore I think there must be better guides out there so this
one is not worth resurecting.
docs/misc/network_setup.txt:
- This is more comprehensively documented on the wiki these days.
docs/misc/VMX_changes.txt:
- Is basically a changelog from the initial implementation of VMX in 2004.
I'm not sure about some of the other docs, but these ones seemed fairly
obvious.

Convert to markdown as I go.
Currently this lives in qemu-xen.git i386-dm/README.hvm-pv-magic-ioport-disable
and I can never find it when I want it. As we transition to upstream qemu this
location becomes less useful.

During kexec all old watches have to be removed, otherwise the new
kernel will receive unexpected events. Allow a guest to reset itself
and cleanup all of its watches and transactions.
Add a new XS_RESET_WATCHES command to do the reset on behalf of the
guest.
(Changes by iwj: specify the argument to be a single nul byte. Permit
read-only clients to use the new command.)

Build has been broken since at least 18969:d6889b3b6423 (early
2009) and it has been unhooked from the top level build since forever
AFAICT. The last actual development (as opposed to tree wide
cleanups and build fixes) appears to have been 11594:6d7bba6443ef in
2006. The functionality of vnet has apparently been superceded by
VLANs, ebtables, Ethernet-over-IP etc all of which are well integrated
with upstream kernels and distros.

In b59f87f56b1e, the defaults for some of the directory config
variables implicitly changed. In this commit we arrange for the
defaults to be auto-detected (with the same logic as the run-time
scripts use).
This will make the build more likely to produce answers which the
builder intends. (And, in particular, it should un-break the
automated tests, which didn't set these variables explicitly and
therefore got broken by b59f87f56b1e.)

This patch implements the new protocol for handling pv consoles and
emulated serials as described in the document docs/misc/console.txt.
The changes are:
- xenconsoled: do not write the pty under serial in xenstore if
xenconsoled is handling a consolepath;
- xenconsole: implement support for an explicit console type parameter;
the parameter can be "pv", to specify that the user wants to
connect to a pv console, or "serial", to specify that the user wants to
connect to an emulated serial. If the type parameter hasn't been
specified be the user, xenconsole tries to guess which type of console
it has to connect to, defaulting to pv console for pv guests and
emulated serial for hvm guests.
- xenconsole: use the new xenstore paths;
- libxl: rename libxl_console_constype to libxl_console_consback:
constype is used to to specify whether qemu or xenconsoled provides the
backend, so I renamed it to libxl_console_consback to make it more
obvious that we are talking about backends;
- libxl: add a new libxl_console_constype to specify if the console is
an emulated serial or a pv console;
- libxl: support the new xenconsole "type" command line parameter;
- libxl: use the "output" node under console in xenstore to tell qemu
where do we want the output of this pv console to go;
- remove the legacy "serialpath" from xenconsoled altogether

Add support for Xen ocontext records to enable device polices. The
default policy will not be changed and instructions have been added to
enable the new functionality. Examples on how to use the new policy
language have been added but commented out. The newest version of
checkpolicy (>= 2.0.20) and libsepol (>= 2.0.39) is needed in order to
compile it. Devices can be labeled and enforced using the following
new commands; pirqcon, iomemcon, ioportcon and pcidevicecon.

* Documents the existing 4kby size limit on xenstore message payloads
* Causes xs.c in libxenstore to fail locally rather than violating
said limit (which is good because xenstored kills the client
connection if it's exceeded).
* Introduces some limits on path lengths in xenstored. I trust
no-one is using path lengths >2kby. This is good because currently
a domain client can create a 4kby relative path that the dom0 tools
cannot access since they'd have to specify the somewhat longer
absolute path.
* Removes uses of the host's PATH_MAX (!)

This patch:
* enables the gdbstubs to properly access hypervisor memory;
* prevents an assertion failure in __spurious_page_fault's call
to map_domain_page if such accesses fail, by testing in_irq();
* prints some additional helpful messages;
* fixes the endianness of register transfers from the gdbstubs
so that gdb is much less confused.
* fixes the documentation in docs/misc/crashdb.txt
