Anthony PERARD 40d96f0c7d tools: Remove -Werror everywhere else
The previous changeset, e4f5949c44 ("tools: Add -Werror by default to all
tools/"), added "-Werror" to CFLAGS in tools/Rules.mk. Remove it from
everywhere else now it is duplicated.

Andrew Cooper 0e6c87b93e Revert "x86/CPUID: shrink max_{,sub}leaf fields according to actual leaf contents"
OSSTest has identified a 3rd regression caused by this change. Migration
between Xen 4.15 and 4.16 on the nocera pair of machines (AMD Opteron 4133)
fails with:

xc: error: Failed to set CPUID policy: leaf 00000000, subleaf ffffffff, msr ffffffff (22 = Invalid argument): Internal error
xc: error: Restore failed (22 = Invalid argument): Internal error

which is a safety check to prevent resuming the guest when the CPUID data has
been truncated. The problem is caused by shrinking of the max policies, which
is an ABI that needs handling compatibly between different versions of Xen.

Furthermore, shrinking of the default policies also breaks things in some
cases, because certain cpuid= settings in a VM config file which used to work
will now be refused. Also external toolstacks that attempt to set the CPUID
policy from a featureset might now see some filled leaves not reachable due to
the shrinking done to the default domain policy before applying the
featureset.

This reverts commit 540d911c28, as well as the
partial fix attempt in 81da2b544c (which added
one new case where cpuid= settings might not apply correctly) and restores the
same behaviour as Xen 4.15.

In particular, fill in the install/uninstall rules so this test can be

Jan Beulich 540d911c28 x86/CPUID: shrink max_{,sub}leaf fields according to actual leaf contents
Zapping leaf data for out of range leaves is just one half of it: To
avoid guests (bogusly or worse) inferring information from mere leaf
presence, also shrink maximum indicators such that the respective
trailing entry is not all blank (unless of course it's the initial
subleaf of a leaf that's not the final one).

This is also in preparation of bumping the maximum basic leaf we
support, to ensure guests not getting exposed related features won't
observe a change in behavior.

Andrew Cooper c22ced93e1 tests/cpu-policy: Confirm that CPUID serialisation is sorted
The existing x86_cpuid_copy_to_buffer() does produce sorted results, and we're
about to start relying on this. Extend the unit tests.

As test_cpuid_serialise_success() is a fairly limited set of synthetic
examples right now, introduce test_cpuid_current() to operate on the full
policy for the current CPU.

Tweak the fail() macro to allow for simplified control flow.

This helper will eventually be the core "can a guest configured like this run
on the CPU?" logic. For now, it is just enough of a stub to allow us to
replace the hypercall interface while retaining the previous behaviour.

It will be expanded as various other bits of CPUID handling get cleaned up.

Jan Beulich 1835980fc6 x86emul: fix test harness and fuzzer build dependencies
Commit fd35f32b4b ("tools/x86emul: Use struct cpuid_policy in the
userspace test harnesses") didn't account for the dependencies of
cpuid-autogen.h to potentially change between incremental builds. In
particular the harness has a "run" goal which is supposed to be usable
independently of the rest of the tools sub-tree building, and both the
harness and the fuzzer code are also supposed to be buildable
independently. Therefore a re-build of the generated header needs to be
triggered first, which is achieved by introducing a new top-level target
pattern (for just the "run" part for now).

Further cpuid.o did not have any dependencies added for it.

Finally, while at it, add a "run" target to the cpu-policy test harness.

Despite %.12s properly limiting the number of characters read from

Pu Wen d698382a5e x86/cpu: Create Hygon Dhyana architecture support file
Add x86 architecture support for a new processor: Hygon Dhyana Family
18h. To make Hygon initialization flow more clear, carve out code from
amd.c into a separate file hygon.c, and remove unnecessary code for
Hygon Dhyana.

To identify Hygon Dhyana CPU, add a new vendor type X86_VENDOR_HYGON
and vendor ID "HygonGenuine" for system recognition, and fit the new
x86 vendor lookup mechanism.

Hygon can fully use the function early_init_amd(), so make this common
function non-static and direct call it from Hygon code.

Add a separate hygon_get_topology(), which calculate phys_proc_id from
AcpiId[6](see reference [1]).

Andrew Cooper 93883a2eab libx86: Helper for clearing out-of-range CPUID leaves
When merging a levelled policy, stale out-of-range leaves may remain.
Introduce a helper to clear them, and test a number of the subtle corner
cases.

The logic based on cpuid_policy_xstates() is liable to need changing when XCR0
has bit 63 defined. Leave BUILD_BUG_ON()'s behind with comments in all all
impacted areas, which includes in x86_cpuid_policy_fill_native().

Andrew Cooper 6fdde9e308 tests/cpu-policy: Skip building on older versions of GCC
GCC 4.4 (as included in CentOS 6) is too old to handle designated initialisers
in anonymous unions. As this is just a developer tool, skip the test in this
case, rather than sacraficing the legibility/expresibility of the test cases.

This fixes the Gitlab CI tests.

While adding this logic to cpu-polcy, adjust the equivelent logic from
x86_emulator on which this was based. Printing:

Test harness not built, use newer compiler than "gcc"

isn't helpful for anyone unexpectedly encountering the error.
