Ian Campbell 40305629dc build: remove Linux kernel build integration.
We haven't shipped a XenoLinux kernel for more releases than I can remember.
We held onto these because osstest was using them but this is no longer the
case.

Ian Campbell 9e8672f1c3 tools: remove xend and associated python modules
I've retained xen.lowlevel.{xc,xs} since they seem more widely useful. I also
kept xen.lowlevel.xl even though it is disabled by default and IMHO useless in
its current form.

I've tried to clean up the various associated bits like example configs, init
scripts, udev rules etc but no doubt I have missed something, those can easily
be cleaned up later.

I've also removed xm-test since although it could in theory be reworked to
test xl it hasn't been touched for years. If someone wants to resurrect it
then they could do so via the git history.

This has been built but not runtime tested.

Andrew Cooper 7dbfc2f8b0 docs: Honour --{en, dis}able-xend when building docs
If a user has specified --disable-xend, they wont want the manpages either.

Propagating this parameters requires reorganising the way in which the
makefile chooses which documents to build.

There is now a split of {MAN1,MAN5,MARKDOWN,TXT}SRC-y to select which
documentation to build, which is separate from the patsubst section which
generates appropriate paths to trigger the later rules.

The manpages are quite easy to split between xend, xl and xenstore, and have
been. Items from misc/ are much harder and been left.

Ian Campbell b0f69ec5c7 tools: Make qemu-xen-traditional build optional.
Now that we have upstream qemu people may want to avoid building this extra
code.

There is a little bit of trickery in stubdom/configure.ac to ensure that the
ioemu stubdom is only built if qemu-traditional is enabled.

libxl will return an error if a caller tries to build a domain using
qemu-xen-traditional when this support was disabled at build time. Since
qemu-xen-traditional has been historically tightly bound to the Xen releases I
don't see any value in supporting "3rd party" provision of
qemu-xen-traditional.

We also do not want/need this on ARM therefore default is on for x86 and off

Ian Campbell 2a6327bf2b xen: arm: drop LDFLAGS_DIRECT emulation specification.
The current -maarch64elf fails when cross-building arm64 on Ubuntu Raring due
to a missing file "ldscripts/aarch64elf.xr". This is undoubtedly an Ubuntu gcc
bug, hwever when investigating I found that this option was not necessary at
all since we provide an explicit linker script when linking the hypervisor
(AFAICT all -m<foo> does is override the default linker script).

LDFLAGS_DIRECT is also used when linking the intermediate built-in.o files but
-m<emulatin> is not needed for this since it isn't linking the final image and
we are calling the linker with the correct, cross if necessary, name.

However it does appear to be potentially useful to supply -EL in both cases to
ensure that we get little endian images. (I just happened to spot that Linux
does this, for both arm and arm64, although I expect we are unlikely to trip
over such toolchains these days).

Tested with cross-builds of arm32 and arm64 as well as a native arm32 build.

getconf is not cross-compile friendly since it reports the features of the host

AC_SYS_LARGEFILE arranges for #defines to appear in config.h however Xen's

Ian Campbell 9f7b256146 tools: revert to using /var and /etc/
26470:acaf29203cf9 "tools+stubdom: install under /usr/local by
default" moved more stuff under /usr/local than was desirable.

In particular SYSCONFIG_DIR (configuration for initscripts) moved to
/usr/local/etc/{sysconfig,defaults} while the initscripts themselves
(correctly) remained in /etc/init.d. Moving /etc/xen/scripts breaks
the udev bakcned rules file. Lastly stuff under /var was moved to
/usr/local/var.

Move these back to /etc/ and /var. Moving /etc wholesale rather thsn
just the problematic bits is preferable for consistency.

Although there seems to be some disagreement about /usr/local/var vs
/var using /var is compatible with the FHS and what we think most
people will expect.

Most of this impacts Linux only but NetBSD appears to have been using
/usr/local/var/lib which I have also reset to /var/lib.

Note that we already paid no attention to autoconf --sysconfdir or
--localstatedir ('etc' and 'var' respectively) so there is no change
from that PoV.

Ian Campbell 9db0ad0f46 docs: check for documentation generation tools in docs/configure.
It is sometimes hard to discover all the optional tools that should be
on a system to build all available Xen documentation. By checking for
documentation generation tools at ./configure time and displaying a
warning, Xen packagers will more easily learn about new optional build
dependencies, like markdown, when they are introduced.

Based on a patch by Matt Wilson. Changed to use a separate
docs/configure which is called from the top-level in the same manner
as stubdoms.

Matt Wilson f9cc745642 tools: honour --libdir when it is passed to ./configure
Currently shared libraries are automatically installed into /usr/lib
or /usr/lib64, depending on the supplied --prefix value and
$(XEN_TARGET_ARCH). Some systems, like recent Debian and Ubuntu releases,
do not use /usr/lib64, but instead /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu.

With this change, packagers can supply the desired location for shared
libraries on the ./configure command line. Packagers need to note that
the default behaviour on 64-bit Linux systems will be to install shared
libraries in /usr/lib, not /usr/lib64, unless a --libdir value is provided
to ./configure.

Additionally, the libfsimage plugins are now loaded explicitly from
$LIBDIR/fs, removing platform-based decision trees in code.

Ian Jackson 90b969c2ed tools: Correct PTHREAD options in config/StdGNU.mk
It is not correct to say -lpthread. The correct option is -pthread,
which may have sundry other effects on code generation etc. It needs
to be passed both to compilation and linking.

Fix the configure test to test -pthread, and plumb the resulting flag
through to PTHREAD_{CFLAGS,LDFLAGS} in Tools.mk; also substitute
PTHREAD_LIBS (although this will currently always be empty).
Remove PTHREAD_LIBS setting from StdGNU.mk.

Fix the one user (libxc) to use PTHREAD_{CFLAGS,LDFLAGS} too.

There are still some other users in tree which pass -pthread or
-lpthread by adding it as a literal to their own compiler options.
These will be fixed in a later patch.

Roger Pau Monne 43774fe3f1 autoconf: change AX_ARG_{DISABLE/ENABLE}_AND_EXPORT to make more sense
Change disable/enable feature macros to have a more significative name
of what they actually do, to avoid confusions.

New macros have the following names:

AX_ARG_DEFAULT_ENABLE: feature is enabled by default, provides the
--disable-{feature} option to disable it.

AX_ARG_DEFAULT_DISABLE: feature is disabled by default, provides the
--enable-{feature] option to enable it.

Jan Beulich 570c311ca2 remove ia64
It retains IA64-specific bits in code imported from elsewhere (e.g.
ACPI, EFI) as well as in the public headers.

It also doesn't touch the tools, mini-os, and unmodified_drivers
sub-trees.

Roger Pau Monne 65da491321 autoconf: add check for curses library
Check for a curses compatible library (curses or ncurses basically).
One of those is needed to compile Xen tools (gtraceview and xentop).

Modify Makefiles/sources to use configure output (fetch CURSES_LIBS
from tools/Tools.mk and header to include from tools/config.h)
