Jan Beulich 848d8eee52 x86emul: don't special case fetching the immediate of PUSH
These immediates follow the standard patterns in all modes, so they're
better fetched by the generic source operand handling code.

To facilitate testing, instead of adding yet another of these pretty
convoluted individual test cases, simply introduce another blowfish run
with -mno-accumulate-outgoing-args (the additional -Dstatic is to
keep the compiler from converting the calling convention to
"regparm(3)", which I did observe it does).

To make this introduction of a new blowfish pass (and potential further
ones later one) have less impact on the readability of the final code,
abstract all such "binary blob" executions via a table to iterate
through.

The resulting native code execution adjustment also uncovered a lack of
clobbers on the asm() in the 64-bit case, which is being fixed at once.

Tamas K Lengyel f3356e1d4d x86/mem-sharing: mem-sharing a range of memory
Currently mem-sharing can be performed on a page-by-page basis from the control
domain. However, this process is quite wasteful when a range of pages have to
be deduplicated.

This patch introduces a new mem_sharing memop for range sharing where
the user doesn't have to separately nominate each page in both the source and
destination domain, and the looping over all pages happen in the hypervisor.
This significantly reduces the overhead of sharing a range of memory.

Tamas K Lengyel 94db5dbb6c x86/vm_event: add HVM debug exception vm_events
Since in-guest debug exceptions are now unconditionally trapped to Xen, adding
a hook for vm_event subscribers to tap into this new always-on guest event. We
rename along the way hvm_event_breakpoint_type to hvm_event_type to better
match the various events that can be passed with it. We also introduce the
necessary monitor_op domctl's to enable subscribing to the events.

This patch also provides monitor subscribers to int3 events proper access
to the instruction length necessary for accurate event-reinjection. Without
this subscribers manually have to evaluate if the int3 instruction has any
prefix attached which would change the instruction length.

Jan Beulich 81d3a0b26c x86emul: limit-check branch targets
All branches need to #GP when their target violates the segment limit
(in 16- and 32-bit modes) or is non-canonical (in 64-bit mode). For
near branches facilitate this via a zero-byte instruction fetch from
the target address (resulting in address translation and validation
without an actual read from memory), while far branches get dealt with
by breaking up the segment register loading into a read-and-validate
part and a write one. The latter at once allows correcting some
ordering issues in how the individual emulation steps get carried out:
Before updating machine state, all exceptions unrelated to that state
updating should have got raised (i.e. the only ones possibly resulting
in partly updated state are faulting memory writes [pushes]).

Note that while not immediately needed here, write and distinct read
emulation routines get updated to deal with zero byte accesses too, for
overall consistency.

The new library exposes an interface equivalent to

Upon request (via #define XC_WANT_COMPAT_MAP_FOREIGN_API) libxenctrl

Ian Campbell b7f76a699d tools: Refactor /dev/xen/evtchn wrappers into libxenevtchn.
libxenevtchn will provide a stable API and ABI for accessing the
evtchn device.

The functions are moved into the xenevtchn namespace to make a clean
break from libxc and avoid ambiguity regarding which interfaces are
stable.

All in-tree users are updated to use the new names.

Upon request (via #define XC_WANT_COMPAT_EVTCHN_API) libxenctrl will
provide a compat API for the old names. This is used by qemu-xen for
the time being. qemu-xen-traditional is updated in lockstep.

This leaves a few event channel related functions which go via privcmd
(EVTCHNOP) rather than ioctls on the /dev/xen/evtchn device in
libxenctrl. Specifically:

 - xc_evtchn_alloc_unbound
 - xc_evtchn_reset
 - xc_evtchn_status

Note that xc_evtchn_alloc_unbound's functionality is also provided by
xenevtchn_bind_unbound_port() (née xc_evtchn_bind_unbound_port) and is
probably redundant.

These functions do not appear to be needed by qemu-dm, qemu-pv
(provision of device model to HVM guests and PV backends respectively)
or by libvchan suggesting they are not needed by non-toolstack uses of
event channels. QEMU does use these in hw/xenpv/xen_domainbuild.c but
that is a "toolstack use".

The new library uses a version script to ensure that only expected
symbols are exported and to version them such that ABI guarantees can
be kept in the future.

Tamas K Lengyel 7189b0f6c2 tools/tests: Clean-up tools/tests/xen-access
The spin-lock implementation in the xen-access test program is implemented
in a fashion that is actually incomplete. The x86 assembly that guarantees that

However, the spin-lock is not actually necessary in xen-access as it is not
multithreaded. The presence of the faulty implementation of the lock in a non-
multithreaded environment is unnecessarily complicated for developers who are
trying to follow this code as a guide in implementing their own applications.
Thus, removing it from the code improves the clarity on the behavior of the
system.

Jan Beulich 2090ff500d test_x86_emulate: fix inline assembly in blowfish code
With certain gcc versions, commit 1166ecf781 ("tools/Rules.mk: Don't
optimize debug builds; add macro debugging information") results in the
file scope inline assembly no longer being emitted to the .text section
without explicitly switching to it, which causes the blowfish test to
signal SEGV.

Wei Liu f9c9b12775 tools: fix "make distclean"
The original rule to target "distclean" in tools/Rules.mk was in effect
"make clean". It should be "make distclean".

However not all Makefiles in subdirectories have distclean target
defined. So this patch also adds a bunch of distclean targets to various
Makefiles. They only depend on clean target and don't have any actions
in most cases.

With the patch applied, following command outputs 0 results:

find tools -name 'Makefile*' -exec grep -L 'distclean' {} \+ \
     | grep -v ocaml | grep -v libfsimage

Ocaml and libfsimage are known to have distclean defined in a dedicated
rules file.

Jan Beulich 3af450fd2d x86_emulate: properly do IP updates and other side effects on success
The two MMX/SSE/AVX code blocks failed to update IP properly, and these
as well as get_reg_refix(), which "manually" updated IP so far, failed
to do the TF and RF processing needed at the end of successfully
emulated instructions.

Fix the test utility at once to check IP is properly getting updated,
and while at it macroize the respective code quite a bit, hopefully
making it easier to add further tests when the need arises.

Aravindh Puthiyaparambil 6ae2df93c2 mem_access: Add helper API to setup ring and enable mem_access
tools/libxc: Add helper function to setup ring for mem events
This patch adds a helper function that maps the ring, enables mem_event
and removes the ring from the guest physmap while the domain is paused.
This can be used by all mem_events but is only enabled for mem_access at
the moment.

tests/xen-access: Use helper API to setup ring and enable mem_access
Prior to this patch, xen-access was setting up the ring page in a way
that would give a malicous guest a window to write in to the shared ring
page. This patch fixes this by using the helper API that does it safely
on behalf of xen-access.

This is XSA-99.

Don Slutz 864fec3f36 hvm/hpet: Add manual unit test code.
Add the code at tools/tests/vhpet.

See comment in tools/tests/vhpet/main.c for details on running
either in a xen source tree or elsewhere.

A basic in source tree usage is:

make -C tools/tests/vhpet run

Does repro the bug:

..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC

The make file includes coping hpet.c and hpet.h from the source
tree. hpet.c is then modifed to remove all include file and add the
emul.h include file.

The manual test code has only a few automatic checks that output
messages to stderr:

1) Possible ..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer...
if 1st period is not <= the expected value

2) hpet_set_mode(%ld): T%d Error: Set ...
if read of comparator != write of comparator in

3) hpet_check_stopped(%ld): T%d Error: Set ...
   if read != write

4) main(%ld): With clock stopped mc64 changed: ...
if hpet_save returns different master clock values when called
   more then once.

It also generates a lot of output, which is why the sugested way to
use includes a redirect of stdout to a file.
