Igor Druzhinin 25ee478662 tools/libxl: only set viridian flags on new domains
Domains migrating or restoring should have viridian HVM param key in
the migration stream already and setting that twice results in Xen
returing -EEXIST on the second attempt later (during migration stream parsing)
in case the values don't match. That causes migration/restore operation
to fail at destination side.

That issue is now resurfaced by the latest commits (983524671 and 7e5cffcd1e)
extending default viridian feature set making the values from the previous
migration streams and those set at domain construction different.

Michał Leszczyński 71cb03f03c x86/vmx: Add Intel Processor Trace support
Add CPUID/MSR enumeration details for Processor Trace. For now, we will only
support its use inside VMX operation. Fill in the vmtrace_available boolean
to activate the newly introduced common infrastructure for allocating trace
buffers.

For now, Processor Trace is going to be operated in Single Output mode behind
the guests back. Add the MSRs to struct vcpu_msrs, and set up the buffer
limit in vmx_init_ipt() as it is fixed for the lifetime of the domain.

Context switch the most of the MSRs in and out of vCPU context, but the main
control register needs to reside in the MSR load/save lists. Explicitly pull
the msrs pointer out into a local variable, because the optimiser cannot keep
it live across the memory clobbers in the MSR accesses.

Igor Druzhinin 9835246710 viridian: remove implicit limit of 64 VPs per partition
TLFS 7.8.1 stipulates that "a virtual processor index must be less than
the maximum number of virtual processors per partition" that "can be obtained
through CPUID leaf 0x40000005". Furthermore, "Requirements for Implementing
the Microsoft Hypervisor Interface" defines that starting from Windows Server
2012, which allowed more than 64 CPUs to be brought up, this leaf can now
contain a value -1 basically assuming the hypervisor has no restriction while
0 (that we currently expose) means the default restriction is still present.

Along with the previous changes exposing ExProcessorMasks this allows a recent
Windows VM with Viridian extension enabled to have more than 64 vCPUs without
going into BSOD in some cases.

Since we didn't expose the leaf before and to keep CPUID data consistent for
incoming streams from previous Xen versions - let's keep it behind an option.

Jan Beulich 19d637617b tools/libs: honor build dependencies for recently moved subdirs
While the lack of proper dependency tracking of #include-d files is
wider than just the libs/ subtree, dealing with the problem universally
there or in tools/Rules.mk is too much of a risk at this point in the

Marek Marczykowski-Górecki c992efd06a libxl: cleanup remaining backend xs dirs after driver domain
When device is removed, backend domain (which may be a driver domain) is
responsible for removing backend entries from xenstore. But in case of
driver domain, it has no access to remove all of them - specifically the
directory named after frontend-id remains. This may accumulate enough to
exceed xenstore quote of the driver domain, breaking further devices.

Fix this by calling libxl__xs_path_cleanup() on the backend path from
libxl__device_destroy() in the toolstack domain too. Note
libxl__device_destroy() is called when the driver domain already removed
what it can (see device_destroy_be_watch_cb()->device_hotplug_done()).

Paul Durrant 7499b22ba1 libxl: make sure callers of libxl_device_pci_list() free the list after use
A previous patch introduced libxl_device_pci_list_free() which should be used
by callers of libxl_device_pci_list() to properly dispose of the exported
'libxl_device_pci' types and the free the memory holding them. Whilst all
current callers do ensure the memory is freed, only the code in xl's
pcilist() function actually calls libxl_device_pci_dispose(). As it stands
this laxity does not lead to any memory leaks, but the simple addition of
.e.g. a 'string' into the idl definition of 'libxl_device_pci' would lead
to leaks.

This patch makes sure all callers of libxl_device_pci_list() can call
libxl_device_pci_list_free() by keeping copies of 'libxl_device_pci'
structures inline in 'pci_add_state' and 'pci_remove_state' (and also making
sure these are properly disposed at the end of the operations) rather
than keeping pointers to the structures returned by libxl_device_pci_list().

This patch adds code that saves the domain id in xenstore at the point of

Paul Durrant fe91a3aadc libxl: generalise 'driver_path' xenstore access functions in libxl_pci.c
For the purposes of re-binding a device to its previous driver
libxl__device_pci_assignable_add() writes the driver path into xenstore.

Paul Durrant 0fdb48ffe7 libxl: Make sure devices added by pci-attach are reflected in the config
Currently libxl__device_pci_add_xenstore() is broken in that does not
update the domain's configuration for the first device added (which causes
creation of the overall backend area in xenstore). This can be easily observed
by running 'xl list -l' after adding a single device: the device will be
missing.

This patch fixes the problem and adds a DEBUG log line to allow easy
verification that the domain configuration is being modified. Also, the use
of libxl__device_generic_add() is dropped as it leads to a confusing situation
where only partial backend information is written under the xenstore

Paul Durrant fce69998ed libxl: make libxl__device_list() work correctly for LIBXL__DEVICE_KIND_PCI...
... devices.

Currently there is an assumption built into libxl__device_list() that device
backends are fully enumarated under the '/libxl' path in xenstore. This is
not the case for PCI backend devices, which are only properly enumerated
under '/local/domain/0/backend'.

This patch adds a new get_path() method to libxl__device_type to allow a
backend implementation (such as PCI) to specify the xenstore path where
devices are enumerated and modifies libxl__device_list() to use this method
if it is available. Also, if the get_num() method is defined then the
from_xenstore() method expects to be passed the backend path without the device
number concatenated, so this issue is also rectified.

Having made libxl__device_list() work correctly, this patch removes the
open-coded libxl_pci_device_pci_list() in favour of an evaluation of the
LIBXL_DEFINE_DEVICE_LIST() macro. This has the side-effect of also defining
libxl_pci_device_pci_list_free() which will be used in subsequent patches.

Paul Durrant e43780f15f libxl: s/pcidev/pci and remove DEFINE_DEVICE_TYPE_STRUCT_X
The seemingly arbitrary use of 'pci' and 'pcidev' in the code in libxl_pci.c
is confusing and also compromises use of some macros used for other device
types. Indeed it seems that DEFINE_DEVICE_TYPE_STRUCT_X exists solely because
of this duality.

This patch purges use of 'pcidev' from the libxl internal code, but
unfortunately the 'pcidevs' and 'num_pcidevs' fields in 'libxl_domain_config'
are part of the API and need to be retained to avoid breaking callers,
particularly libvirt.

DEFINE_DEVICE_TYPE_STRUCT_X is still removed to avoid the special case in
libxl_pci.c but DEFINE_DEVICE_TYPE_STRUCT is given an extra 'array' argument
which is used to identify the fields in 'libxl_domain_config' relating to
the device type.

NOTE: Some of the more gross formatting errors (such as lack of spaces after
keywords) that came into context have been fixed in libxl_pci.c.

Jason Andryuk 0a5e0ce0fb libxl: Add suppress-vmdesc to QEMU machine
The device model state saved by QMP xen-save-devices-state doesn't
include the vmdesc json. When restoring an HVM, xen-load-devices-state
always triggers "Expected vmdescription section, but got 0". This is
not a problem when restore comes from a file. However, when QEMU runs
in a linux stubdom and comes over a console, EOF is not received. This
causes a delay restoring - though it does restore.

Setting suppress-vmdesc skips looking for the vmdesc during restore and
avoids the wait.

QEMU 5.2 enables suppress-vmdesc by default for xenfv, but this change
sets it manually for xenfv and xen_platform_pci=0 when -machine pc is
use.

QEMU commit 9850c6047b8b "migration: Allow to suppress vmdesc
submission" added suppress-vmdesc in QEMU 2.3.

Jan Beulich e006b2e3be libxl: fix libacpi dependency
$(DSDT_FILES-y) depends on the recursive make to have run in libacpi/
such that the file(s) itself/themselves were generated before
compilation gets attempted. The same, however, is also necessary for
generated headers, before source files including them would get
attempted to be compiled.

The dependency specified in libacpi's Makefile, otoh, is entirely
pointless nowadays - no compilation happens there anymore (except for
tools involved in building the generated files). Together with it, the
rule generating acpi.a also can go away.

Jason Andryuk 1b810a9d5a libxl: only query VNC when enabled
QEMU without VNC support (configure --disable-vnc) will return an error
when VNC is queried over QMP since it does not recognize the QMP
command. This will cause libxl to fail starting the domain even if VNC
is not enabled. Therefore only query QEMU for VNC support when using
VNC, so a VNC-less QEMU will function in this configuration.

'goto out' jumps to the call to device_model_postconfig_done(), the
final callback after the chain of vnc queries. This bypasses all the
QMP VNC queries.

Andrew Cooper f5bdb4aaa1 x86/hvm: Obsolete the use of HVM_PARAM_NESTEDHVM
With XEN_DOMCTL_CDF_nested_virt now passed properly to domain_create(),
reimplement nestedhvm_enabled() to use the property which is fixed for the
lifetime of the domain.

This makes the call to nestedhvm_vcpu_initialise() from hvm_vcpu_initialise()
no longer dead. It became logically dead with the Xend => XL transition, as
they initialise HVM_PARAM_NESTEDHVM in opposite orders with respect to
XEN_DOMCTL_max_vcpus.

There is one opencoded user of nestedhvm_enabled() in HVM_PARAM_ALTP2M's
