David Vrabel 24e3e3553b hvmloader: add high memory e820 region if needed
If the MMIO hole is large and hvmloader needs to relocate memory to
immediately above the 4 GiB boundary, the e820 presented to the guest
will not have a RAM region above 4 GiB.

e.g., a guest with 3 GiB of memory and a 2 GiB MMIO hole will only see
2 GiB.

The required e820 memory region above 4 GiB needs to be added, and not
just filled in.

Andrew Cooper 305e957ffe hvmloader: use xen/errno.h rather than the host systems errno.h
hvmloader is unhosted, and shouldn't use the system errno.h. It already has
to use Xen's errno.h for other hypercalls. The use of public/io/xs_wire.h
requires the use of un-prefixed errno values.

This fixes the build on stricter toolchains where requesting -fno-builtin does
reduce the include path as much as it can.

Ian Campbell 3237645813 tools: Do not expose all builds to unstable hypercall APIs by default
Currently __XEN_TOOLS__ is defined in the global CFLAGS used for tools
builds, exposing them all to the various unstable hypercall interfaces.

However there are places where we do not want this (in particular all
the stable libraries now under tools/libs), and there is a risk of
such uses slipping in unnoticed (currently there are none, but I
tripped over the mixed nature of the HVMOPs just now in some new code
I was putting together).

Instead only define __XEN_TOOLS__ for things which explicitly want the
unstable APIs. The vast majority of these are consumers of libxenctrl,
which have opted into unstable interfaces by using libxenctrl already,
so adding -D__XEN_TOOLS__ to CFLAGS_libxenctrl covers these without
needing to patch the dozen or so tools manually.

The libxc build itself, which doesn't use CFLAGS_libxenctrl, now needs
the define too. As does gdbsx's own low level hypercall binding
library xg.

hvmloader no longer needs to undefine the symbol.

The ocaml evtchn bindings don't actually need sysctl.h and therefore
don't actually need __XEN_TOOLS__ either.

qemu-xen-traditional doesn't use CFLAGS_libxenctrl and so we pass the
define there (via --extra-cflags) too.

Having removed __XEN_TOOLS__ replace it with
__XEN_INTERFACE_VERSION__=__XEN_LATEST_INTERFACE_VERSION__ so that in
tree code is always using the latest APIs.

George Dunlap b730fc3e15 hvmloader/pci: try to avoid placing BARs in RMRRs
Try to avoid placing PCI BARs over RMRRs:

- If mmio_hole_size is not specified, and the existing MMIO range has
RMRRs in it, and there is space to expand the hole in lowmem without
moving more memory, then make the MMIO hole as large as possible.

- When placing RMRRs, find the next RMRR higher than the current base
in the lowmem mmio hole. If it overlaps, skip ahead of it and find
  the next one.

This certainly won't work in all cases, but it should work in a
significant number of cases. Additionally, users should be able to
work around problems by setting mmio_hole_size larger in the guest

Andrew Cooper bbbe7e7157 x86/hvmloader: avoid data corruption with xenstore reads/writes
The functions ring_read and ring_write() have logic to try and deal with
partial reads and writes.

However, in all cases where the "while (len)" loop executed twice, data
corruption would occur as the second memcpy() starts from the beginning of
"data" again, rather than from where it got to.

This bug manifested itself as protocol corruption when a reply header crossed
the first wrap of the response ring. However, similar corruption would also
occur if hvmloader observed xenstored performing partial writes of the block
in question, or if hvmloader had to wait for xenstored to make space in either
ring.

therefore in more cases not have any mmio that is above 4G.

There are real PCI cards that do not support mmio over 4G, so if you
want to emulate them precisely, you may also need to increase the
space below 4G for them. There are drivers for these cards that also
do not work if they have their mmio space mapped above 4G.

This allows growing the MMIO hole to the size needed.

David Scott 674ad2be40 xenstore: extend the xenstore ring with a 'closing' signal
Hvmloader uses the xenstore ring and then tries to reset it back
to its initial state before booting the guest. Occasionally xenstored
will read the ring while it is being zeroed and conclude it has
been corrupted. This prevents PV drivers from loading in the guest.

This patch updates the xenstore ring protocol definition, enabling
a server to advertise additional features to the guest. One such feature
is defined: the ability to cleanly reset the ring including the
higher-level protocol, like an enhanced RESET_WATCHES for rings.

This patch implements the ring reconnection features in oxenstored
and hvmloader, fixing the bug.

This patch also defines an 'invalid' xenstore packet type and uses this
to poison the ring over a reconnect. This will make diagnosing this
bug much easier in future.

seen as plugged by the guest.

This is what is currently happenning:

1. hw adds cpu, sets GPE.2 bit and sends SCI
2. OSPM gets SCI, reads GPE00.sts and masks GPE.2 bit in GPE00.en
3. OSPM executes _L02 (level-triggered event associate to cpu hotplug)
4. hw adds second cpu and sets GPE.2 bit but SCI is not asserted
    since GPE00.en masks event
5. OSPM resets GPE.2 bit in GPE00.sts and umasks it in GPE00.en

as result event for step 4 is lost because step 5 clears it and OS
will not see added second cpu.

ACPI 50 spec: 5.6.4 General-Purpose Event Handling
defines GPE event handling as following:

1. Disables the interrupt source (GPEx_BLK EN bit).
2. If an edge event, clears the status bit.
3. Performs one of the following:
* Dispatches to an ACPI-aware device driver.
* Queues the matching control method for execution.
* Manages a wake event using device _PRW objects.
4. If a level event, clears the status bit.
5. Enables the interrupt source.

So, by using edge-triggered General-Purpose Event instead of a
level-triggered GPE, OSPM is less likely to clear the status bit of the
addition of the second CPU. On step 5, QEMU will resend an interrupt if
the status bit is set.

This description apply also for PCI hotplug since the same step are
followed by QEMU, so we also change the GPE event type for PCI hotplug.

This does not apply to qemu-xen-traditional because it does not resend
an interrupt if necessary as a result of step 5.

Patch and description inspired by SeaBIOS's commit:
Replace level gpe event with edge gpe event for hot-plug handlers

Andrew Cooper 62466514cc hvmloader/smbios: Change strncpy to memcpy for anchor strings
Coverity complains about the use of strncpy() to completely fill the anchor
strings, resulting in an unterminated string.

Although the strncpy result is correct, the anchor strings are not strings in
the C sense, and use of memcpy is the prevaling style elsewhere in hvmloader
anyway.

While tidying up the style in this function, also remove some trailing
whitespace and gratuitous cast.

Jan Beulich 5f2875739b hvmloader: fix SeaBIOS interface
The SeaBIOS ROM image may validly exceed 128k in size, it's only our
interface code that so far assumed that it wouldn't. Remove that
restriction by setting the base address depending on image size.

Add a check to HVM loader so that too big images won't result in silent
guest failure anymore.

Uncomment the intended build-time size check for rombios, moving it
into a function so that it would actually compile.

George Dunlap c74c1f906a libxl, hvmloader: Don't relocate memory for MMIO hole
At the moment, qemu-xen can't handle memory being relocated by
hvmloader. This may happen if a device with a large enough memory
region is passed through to the guest. At the moment, if this
happens, then at some point in the future qemu will crash and the
domain will hang. (qemu-traditional is fine.)

It's too late in the release to do a proper fix, so we try to do
damage control.

hvmloader already has mechanisms to relocate memory to 64-bit space if
it can't make a big enough MMIO hole. By default this is 2GiB; if we
just refuse to make the hole bigger if it will overlap with guest
memory, then the relocation will happen by default.

v5:
 - Update comment to not refer to "this series".
v4:
 - Wrap long line in libxl_dm.c
 - Fix comment
v3:
 - Fix polarity of comparison
 - Move diagnostic messages to another patch
 - Tested with xen platform pci device hacked to have different BAR sizes
   {256MiB, 1GiB} x {qemu-xen, qemu-traditional} x various memory
   configurations
 - Add comment explaining why we default to "allow"
 - Remove cast to bool
v2:
 - style fixes
 - fix and expand comment on the MMIO hole loop
 - use "%d" rather than "%s" -> (...)?"1":"0"
 - use bool instead of uint8_t
 - Move 64-bit bar relocate detection to another patch
 - Add more diagnostic messages

George Dunlap 6392092e7e hvmloader: Remove minimum size for BARs to relocate to 64-bit space
Allow devices with BARs less than 512MiB to be relocated to high
memory.

This will only be invoked if there is not enough low MMIO space to map
the device, and will be done preferentially to large devices first; so
in all likelihood only large devices will be remapped anyway.

This is needed to work-around the issue of qemu-xen not being able to
handle moving guest memory around to resize the MMIO hole. The
default MMIO hole size is less than 256MiB.

George Dunlap 56fb55c42e hvmloader: Load large devices into high MMIO space as needed
Keep track of how much mmio space is left total, as well as the amount
of "low" MMIO space (<4GiB), and only load devices into high memory if
there is not enough low memory for the rest of the devices to fit.

Because devices are processed by size in order from large to small,
this should preferentially relocate devices with large BARs to 64-bit
space.

v3:
 - Just use mmio_total rather than introducing a new variable.
 - Port to using mem_resource directly rather than low_mmio_left
