Roger Pau Monne cfd5232431 x86/hvmloader: fix order of PCI vs MTRR initialization
After some recent change the order of MTRR vs PCI initialization is
inverted. MTRR will get initialization ahead of PCI scanning and sizing of
MMIO regions. As a result when setting up MTRRs the MMIO window below 4GB

This results in malformed and incomplete MTRRs being setup.

Fix by making sure PCI is initialized ahead of MTRR, also add a comment to

Kevin Lampis 4c3ce492ed livepatch: Pass buffer size to list sysctl
The livepatch list sysctl writes metadata into a buffer provided by the
caller. The caller is expected to allocate an appropriately sized buffer
but this is racy and may result in Xen writing beyond the end of the
buffer should the metadata size change.

The name buffer is expected to be an array of elements with size
XEN_LIVEPATCH_NAME_SIZE to avoid this kind of race but the xen-livepatch
tool allocates only as many bytes as needed, therefore encountering the
same potential race condition.

Fix both these issues by requiring the caller to pass in the size of the
name and metadata buffers and then not writing beyond the allocated
size.

The sysctl interface version is bumped due to the change in semantics of
the fields.

Andrew Cooper 2eb1132f79 x86/stubs: Introduce place_ret() to abstract away raw 0xc3's
The Indirect Target Selection speculative vulnerability means that indirect
branches (including RETs) are unsafe when in the first half of a cacheline.
This means it's not safe for logic using the stubs to write raw 0xc3's.

Introduce place_ret() which, for now, writes a raw 0xc3 but will contain
additional logic when return thunks are in use.

stub_selftest() doesn't strictly need to be converted as they only run on

Oleksandr Andrushchenko ad3ac58a9d vpci: translate virtual PCI bus topology for guests
There are two originators for the PCI configuration space access:
1. The domain that owns physical host bridge: MMIO handlers are
there so we can update vPCI register handlers with the values
written by the hardware domain, e.g. physical view of the registers
vs guest's view on the configuration space.
2. Guest access to the passed through PCI devices: we need to properly
map virtual bus topology to the physical one, e.g. pass the configuration
space access to the corresponding physical devices.

Roger Pau Monne 8f2c5dc611 x86/hvmloader: fix usage of NULL with cpuid_count()
The commit that added support for retrieving the APIC IDs from the APs
introduced several usages of cpuid() with NULL parameters, which is not
handled by the underlying implementation. For GCC I expect this results in
writes to the physical address at 0, however when using Clang 19.1.2 the
generated code in smp.o for the whole file is:

tools/firmware/hvmloader/smp.o: file format elf32-i386

Disassembly of section .text:

00000000 <smp_initialise>:
       0: 55 pushl %ebp
       1: 89 e5 movl %esp, %ebp
       3: 53 pushl %ebx
       4: 31 c0 xorl %eax, %eax
       6: 31 c9 xorl %ecx, %ecx
       8: 0f a2 cpuid

Showing the usage of a NULL pointer results in undefined behavior, and
Clang refusing to generate further code after it.

Fix by using a temporary variable in cpuid_count() in place for any NULL
parameter.

A PCI device's irq field is an 8-bit number. A value of 0xff indicates
that the device IRQ is not connected. Additionally, the Linux ACPI code
can convert these 0xff values to IRQ_NOTCONNECTED(0x80000000) because
"0x80000000 is guaranteed to be outside the available range of
interrupts and easy to distinguish from other possible incorrect

Jan Beulich 115f639142 x86emul: replace _BYTES_PER_LONG
We can now easily use __SIZEOF_LONG__ instead. For this to also work in
the test harness, move hvmloader's STR() to common-macros.h.

because of lack of glibc-i386-devel or equivelent. It's non-fatal, but
reduces the content in test_x86_emulator, which we do care about running.

Instead, convert all emulator testcases to being freestanding builds, resuing
the tools/firmware/include/ headers.

This in turn requires making firmware's stdint.h compatible with 64bit builds.
We now have compiler types for every standard type we use.

Michal Orzel 26d56ef796 tools/arm: Fix nr_spis handling v2
We are missing a way to detect whether a user provided a value for
nr_spis equal to 0 or did not provide any value (default is also 0) which
can cause issues when calculated nr_spis is > 0 and the value from domain
config is 0. Fix it by setting default value for nr_spis to newly added
LIBXL_NR_SPIS_DEFAULT i.e. UINT32_MAX (max supported nr of SPIs is 960
anyway).

Instead of checking each known domain after having received a

function for directly getting the domid of a domain having changed
its state.

A test doing "xl shutdown" of 1000 guests has shown to reduce the

Alejandro Vallejo d6dab805f1 tools: Mark ACPI SDTs as NVS in the PVH build path
Commit cefeffc7e5 marked ACPI tables as NVS in the hvmloader path
because SeaBIOS may otherwise just mark it as RAM. There is, however,
yet another reason to do it even in the PVH path. Xen's incarnation of
AML relies on having access to some ACPI tables (e.g: _STA of Processor
objects relies on reading the processor online bit in its MADT entry)

This is problematic if the OS tries to reclaim ACPI memory for page
tables as it's needed for runtime and can't be reclaimed after the OSPM
is up and running.
