On the Cortex A53, when executing in AArch64 state, a load or store instruction
which uses the result of an ADRP instruction as a base register, or which uses
a base register written by an instruction immediately after an ADRP to the
same register, might access an incorrect address.
The workaround is to enable the linker flag --fix-cortex-a53-843419
if present, to check and fix the affected sequence. Otherwise print a warning
that Xen may be susceptible to this errata

might return a wrong value when the counter crosses a 32bit boundary.
Until now, there is no case for Xen itself to access CNTVCT_EL0,
and it also should be the Guest OS's responsibility to deal with
this part.
But for CNTPCT, there exists several cases in Xen involving reading
CNTPCT, so a possible workaround is that performing the read twice,
and to return one or the other depending on whether a transition has

At the moment, early printk can only be configured on the make command
line. It is not very handy because a user has to remove the option
everytime it is using another command other than compiling the
hypervisor.
Furthermore, early printk is one of the few odds one that are not
using Kconfig.
So this is about time to move it to Kconfig.
The new kconfigs options allow a user to eather select a UART driver
to use at boot time, and set the parameters, or it is still possible
to select a platform which will set the parameters.
If CONFIG_EARLY_PRINTK is present in the environment or on the make

"iommu/arm-smmu: Disable stalling faults for all endpoints" from the
Linux kernel. This works-around Erratum #842869.
Original commit message:
Enabling stalling faults can result in hardware deadlock on poorly
designed systems, particularly those with a PCI root complex upstream of
the SMMU.
Although it's not really Linux's job to save hardware integrators from
their own misfortune, it *is* our job to stop userspace (e.g. VFIO
clients) from hosing the system for everybody else, even if they might
already be required to have elevated privileges.
Given that the fault handling code currently executes entirely in IRQ
context, there is nothing that can sensibly be done to recover from
things like page faults anyway, so let's rip this code out for now and
avoid the potential for deadlock.

The ARM erratum applies to certain revisions of Cortex-A57. The
processor may report a Stage 2 translation fault as the result of
Stage 1 fault for load crossing a page boundary when there is a
permission fault or device memory fault at stage 1 and a translation
fault at Stage 2.
So Xen needs to check that Stage 1 translation does not generate a fault
before handling the Stage 2 fault. If it is a Stage 1 translation fault,
return to the guest to let the processor injecting the correct fault.

of the workarounds is to change device loads into using load-acquire
semantics.
Use the alternative framework to enable the workaround only on affected
cores.
Whilst a guest could trigger the deadlock, it can be broken when the
processor is receiving an interrupt. As the Xen scheduler will always setup
a timer (firing to every 1ms to 300ms depending on the running time
slice) on each processor, the deadlock would last only few milliseconds
and only affects the guest time slice.
Therefore a malicious guest could only hurt itself. Note that all the

The cache instructions "dc cvac" and "dc cvau" need to be upgraded to

Whilst the errata affect cache instructions issued at any exception
level, it is not necessary to trap EL1/EL0 data cache instructions
access in order to upgrade them. Indeed the data cache corruption would
always be at the address used by the data cache instructions. Note that
this address could point to a shared memory between guests and the

before any use.
Therefore a malicious guest could only hurt itself. Note that all the

When a device is marked for passthrough (via the new property
"xen, passthrough"), dom0 must not access to the device (i.e not
loading a driver), but should be able to manage the MMIO/interrupt
of the passthrough device.
The latter part will allow the toolstack to map MMIO/IRQ when a device
is pass through to a guest.
The property "xen, passthrough" will be translated as 'status="disabled"'
in the device tree to avoid DOM0 using the device. We assume that DOM0 is
able to cope with this property (already the case for Linux, and
required by ePAPR).
Rework the function map_device (renamed into handle_device) to:
* For a given device node:
- Give permission to manage IRQ/MMIO for this device
- Retrieve the IRQ configuration (i.e edge/level) from the device
tree
* When the device is not marked for guest passthrough:
- Assign the device to the guest if it's protected by an IOMMU
- Map the IRQs and MMIOs regions to the guest

Currently we use the chosen/bootargs property as the Xen commandline
and rely on xen,dom0-bootargs for Dom0. However this brings issues
with bootloaders, which usually build bootargs by bootscripts for a
Linux kernel - and not for the entirely different Xen hypervisor.
Introduce a new possible device tree property "xen,xen-bootargs"
explicitly for the Xen hypervisor and make the selection of which to
use more fine grained:
- If xen,xen-bootargs is present, it will be used for Xen.
- If xen,dom0-bootargs is present, it will be used for Dom0.
- If xen,xen-bootargs is _not_ present, but xen,dom0-bootargs is,
bootargs will be used for Xen. Like the current situation.
- If no Xen specific properties are present, bootargs is for Dom0.
- If xen,xen-bootargs is present, but xen,dom0-bootargs is missing,
bootargs will be used for Dom0.
The aim is to allow common bootscripts to boot both Xen and native
Linux with the same device tree blob. If needed, one could hard-code
the Xen commandline into the DTB, leaving bootargs for Dom0 to be set
by the (non Xen-aware) bootloader.
I will send out a appropriate u-boot patch, which writes the content
of the "xen_bootargs" environment variable into the xen,xen-bootargs
dtb property.
