Juergen Gross f6c990ac3c tools: allow to limit xenstore features via guest config
Add a guest config parameter "xenstore_feature_mask" allowing to limit
the Xenstore features the guest can see and use. This can be needed in
order to allow migrating a guest to a host running a Xenstore version
providing less features than the source host.

Juergen Gross 3c8fccd30d libxl: allow to run non-HVM guest without any device model being available
When removing qemu-trad support, libxl__domain_build_info_setdefault()
was modified to only allow qemu-xen as a device model. This change
resulted in an error at domain creation when qemu-xen isn't there.

As this is a perfectly fine situation for PV and PVH guests without
any qemu based backends, handle this case gracefully.

Roger Pau Monne 22650d6054 x86/hvmloader: select xen platform pci MMIO BAR UC or WB MTRR cache attribute
The Xen platform PCI device (vendor ID 0x5853) exposed to x86 HVM guests
doesn't have the functionality of a traditional PCI device. The exposed
MMIO BAR is used by some guests (including Linux) as a safe place to map
foreign memory, including the grant table itself.

Traditionally BARs from devices have the uncacheable (UC) cache attribute
from the MTRR, to ensure correct functionality of such devices. hvmloader
mimics this behavior and sets the MTRR attributes of both the low and high
PCI MMIO windows (where BARs of PCI devices reside) as UC in MTRR.

This however causes performance issues for users of the Xen platform PCI
device BAR, as for the purposes of mapping remote memory there's no need to
use the UC attribute. On Intel systems this is worked around by using
iPAT, that allows the hypervisor to force the effective cache attribute of
a p2m entry regardless of the guest PAT value. AMD however doesn't have an
equivalent of iPAT, and guest PAT values are always considered.

Linux commit:

41925b105e34 xen: replace xen_remap() with memremap()

Attempted to mitigate this by forcing mappings of the grant-table to use
the write-back (WB) cache attribute. However Linux memremap() takes MTRRs
into account to calculate which PAT type to use, and seeing the MTRR cache
attribute for the region being UC the PAT also ends up as UC, regardless of
the caller having requested WB.

As a workaround to allow current Linux to map the grant-table as WB using
memremap() introduce an xl.cfg option (xen_platform_pci_bar_uc=0) that can
be used to select whether the Xen platform PCI device BAR will have the UC
attribute in MTRR. Such workaround in hvmloader should also be paired with
a fix for Linux so it attempts to change the MTRR of the Xen platform PCI
device BAR to WB by itself.

Overall, the long term solution would be to provide the guest with a safe
range in the guest physical address space where mappings to foreign pages
can be created.

Some vif throughput performance figures provided by Anthoine from a 8
vCPUs, 4GB of RAM HVM guest(s) running on AMD hardware:

Without this patch:
vm -> dom0: 1.1Gb/s
vm -> vm:   5.0Gb/s

With the patch:
vm -> dom0: 4.5Gb/s
vm -> vm:   7.0Gb/s

Kevin Lampis 4c3ce492ed livepatch: Pass buffer size to list sysctl
The livepatch list sysctl writes metadata into a buffer provided by the
caller. The caller is expected to allocate an appropriately sized buffer
but this is racy and may result in Xen writing beyond the end of the
buffer should the metadata size change.

The name buffer is expected to be an array of elements with size
XEN_LIVEPATCH_NAME_SIZE to avoid this kind of race but the xen-livepatch
tool allocates only as many bytes as needed, therefore encountering the
same potential race condition.

Fix both these issues by requiring the caller to pass in the size of the
name and metadata buffers and then not writing beyond the allocated
size.

The sysctl interface version is bumped due to the change in semantics of
the fields.

A PCI device's irq field is an 8-bit number. A value of 0xff indicates
that the device IRQ is not connected. Additionally, the Linux ACPI code
can convert these 0xff values to IRQ_NOTCONNECTED(0x80000000) because
"0x80000000 is guaranteed to be outside the available range of
interrupts and easy to distinguish from other possible incorrect
values." When the hypercall to assign that IRQ fails, device

An earlier attempt to switch to the usual split between return value and

HWP work made the cleanup of the "available governors" array
conditional, neglecting the fact that the condition used may not be the

is updated upon getting back EAGAIN). Since cleanup can be done even if
no buffer was allocated, drop the conditional there again.

incorrect configuration. Also, the documentation for nr_spis is
incorrect as it mentions 991 as the number of max SPIs, where it should
be 960 i.e. (1020 - 32) rounded down to the nearest multiple of 32.

Andrew Cooper 504ea442e3 tools: Introduce a non-truncating xc_xenver_extraversion()
... which uses XENVER_extraversion2.

In order to do this sensibly, use manual hypercall buffer handling. Not only
does this avoid an extra bounce buffer (we need to strip the xen_varbuf_t
header anyway), it's also shorter and easlier to follow.

Update libxl and the ocaml stubs to match. No API/ABI change in either.

With this change made, `xl info` can now correctly access a >15 char
extraversion:

  # xl info xen_version

Carlo Nonato 748bd725fb tools: add support for cache coloring configuration
Add a new "llc_colors" parameter that defines the LLC color assignment for
a domain. The user can specify one or more color ranges using the same
syntax used everywhere else for color config described in the
documentation.
The parameter is defined as a list of strings that represent the color
ranges.

Documentation is also added.

Marek Marczykowski-Górecki e6472d4668 tools/xg: increase LZMA_BLOCK_SIZE for uncompressing the kernel

This looks to be related to the following change in Linux:
8653c909922743bceb4800e5cc26087208c9e0e6 ("xz: use 128 MiB dictionary and force single-threaded mode")

Fix this by increasing the block size to 256MiB. And remove the
misleading comment (from lack of better ideas).
