Andrew Cooper cda26aed40 x86/stubs: Introduce place_ret() to abstract away raw 0xc3's
The Indirect Target Selection speculative vulnerability means that indirect
branches (including RETs) are unsafe when in the first half of a cacheline.
This means it's not safe for logic using the stubs to write raw 0xc3's.

Introduce place_ret() which, for now, writes a raw 0xc3 but will contain
additional logic when return thunks are in use.

stub_selftest() doesn't strictly need to be converted as they only run on
boot, but doing so gets us a partial test of place_ret() too.

No functional change.

Oleksandr Tyshchenko 9b87082900 xen/memory: Make resource_max_frames() to return 0 on unknown type
This is actually what the caller acquire_resource() expects on any kind
of error (the comment on top of resource_max_frames() also suggests that).
Otherwise, the caller will treat -errno as a valid value and propagate incorrect
nr_frames to the VM. As a possible consequence, a VM trying to query a resource
size of an unknown type will get the success result from the hypercall and obtain
nr_frames 4294967201.

Also, add an ASSERT_UNREACHABLE() in the default case of _acquire_resource(),
normally we won't get to this point, as an unknown type will always be rejected
earlier in resource_max_frames().

Also, update test-resource app to verify that Xen can deal with invalid
(unknown) resource type properly.

Jan Beulich 1179d51dcb x86emul: ignore VEX.W for BMI{1,2} insns in 32-bit mode
While result values and other status flags are unaffected as long as we
can ignore the case of registers having their upper 32 bits non-zero
outside of 64-bit mode, EFLAGS.SF may obtain a wrong value when we
mistakenly re-execute the original insn with VEX.W set.

Note that guest the memory access, if any, is correctly carried out as
32-bit regardless of VEX.W. The emulator-local memory operand will be
accessed as a 64-bit quantity, but it is pre-initialised to zero so no
internal state can leak.

Jan Beulich 5b8780869e x86emul: correct EFLAGS testing for BMI1/BMI2
Apparently I blindly copied the constants from the BEXTR case, where SF
indeed wants leaving out. For BLSI, BLSMSK, BLSR, and BZHI SF is
defined, and hence wants checking. This is noticable in particular for
BLSR, where with the input we use SF will be set in the result (and
hence is being switched to be clear on input).

Convert to using named constants we have available, while omitting DF,
TF, as well as the MBZ bits 3 and 5 from the masking values in the
checks of the produced output. For BZHI also set SF on input, expecting
it to transition to clear.

Andrew Cooper c94e210592 x86/tsx: Expose RTM_ALWAYS_ABORT to guests
A TSX Abort is one option mitigate Native-BHI, but a guest kernel doesn't get
to see this if Xen has turned RTM off using MSR_TSX_{CTRL,FORCE_ABORT}.

Therefore, the meaning of RTM_ALWAYS_ABORT has been adjusted to "XBEGIN won't
fault", and it should be exposed to guests so they can make a better decision.

Expose it in the max policy for any RTM-capable system. Offer it by default
only if RTM has been disabled.

Update test-tsx to account for this new meaning. While adjusting the logic in
test_guest_policies(), take the opportunity to use feature names (now they're

Looking at the tools directory, a fair few directory already add
-Wno-declaration-after-statement to inhibit the default behavior.

We have always build the hypervisor with the flag, so for now remove
only the flag for anything but the hypervisor. We can decide at later
time whether we want to relax.

Also remove the -Wno-declaration-after-statement in some subdirectory
as the flag is now unnecessary.

Stewart Hildebrand a3c8fb450a xen/vpci: header: status register handler
Introduce a handler for the PCI status register, with ability to mask
the capabilities bit. The status register contains RsvdZ bits,
read-only bits, and write-1-to-clear bits. Additionally, we use RsvdP to
mask the capabilities bit. Introduce bitmasks to handle these in vPCI.
If a bit in the bitmask is set, then the special meaning applies:

ro_mask: read normal, guest write ignore (preserve on write to hardware)
rw1c_mask: read normal, write 1 to clear
rsvdp_mask: read as zero, guest write ignore (preserve on write to hardware)
rsvdz_mask: read as zero, guest write ignore (write zero to hardware)

The RO/RW1C/RsvdP/RsvdZ naming and definitions were borrowed from the
PCI Express Base 6.1 specification. RsvdP/RsvdZ bits help Xen enforce
our view of the world. Xen preserves the value of read-only bits on
write to hardware, discarding the guests write value. This is done in
case hardware wrongly implements R/O bits as R/W.

The mask_cap_list flag will be set in a follow-on change.

Jan Beulich 6fba45ca3b x86emul: rework wrapping of libc functions in test and fuzzing harnesses
Our present approach is working fully behind the compiler's back. This
was found to not work with LTO. Employ ld's --wrap= option instead. Note
that while this makes the build work at least with new enough gcc (it
doesn't with gcc7, for example, due to tool chain side issues afaict),
according to my testing things still won't work when building the
fuzzing harness with afl-cc: While with the gcc7 tool chain I see afl-as
getting invoked, this does not happen with gcc13. Yet without using that
assembler wrapper the resulting binary will look uninstrumented to
afl-fuzz.

While checking the resulting binaries I noticed that we've gained uses
of snprintf() and strstr(), which only just so happen to not cause any
problems. Add a wrappers for them as well.

Since we don't have any actual uses of v{,sn}printf(), no definitions of
their wrappers appear (just yet). But I think we want
__wrap_{,sn}printf() to properly use __real_v{,sn}printf() right away,
which means we need delarations of the latter.

other infrastructure involved in enabling this ISA extension.

Jan Beulich 59c2c9c2a0 x86emul: handle AVX512-FP16 conversion to/from (packed) int16 insns
These are easiest in that they have same-size source and destination
vectors, yet they're different from other conversion insns in that they
use opcodes which have different meaning in the 0F encoding space
({,V}H{ADD,SUB}P{S,D}), hence requiring a little bit of overriding.

Jan Beulich d14c52cba0 x86emul: handle AVX512-FP16 complex multiplication insns
Aspects to consider are that these have 32-bit element size (pairs of
FP16) and that there are restrictions on the registers valid to use.

Jan Beulich 520f0acc7a x86emul: handle AVX512-FP16 Map6 misc insns
While, as before, this leverages that the Map6 encoding space is a very
sparse clone of the "0f38" one, switch around the simd_size overriding
for opcode 2D. This way fewer separate overrides are needed.

Jan Beulich 67d458c84a x86emul: handle AVX512-FP16 fma-like insns
The Map6 encoding space is a very sparse clone of the "0f38" one. Once
again re-use that table, as the entries corresponding to invalid opcodes
in Map6 are simply benign with simd_size forced to other than simd_none
(preventing undue memory reads in SrcMem handling early in
x86_emulate()).

This encoding space is a very sparse clone of the "twobyte" one. Re-use
that table, as the entries corresponding to invalid opcodes in Map5 are
simply benign with simd_size forced to other than simd_none (preventing
undue memory reads in SrcMem handling early in x86_emulate()).

Jan Beulich b67934082e x86emul: handle AVX512-FP16 insns encoded in 0f3a opcode map
In order to re-use (also in subsequent patches) existing code and tables
as much as possible, simply introduce a new boolean field in emulator
state indicating whether an insn is one with a half-precision source.
Everything else then follows "naturally".

Jan Beulich 7c6fdc40a0 x86emul: rework compiler probing in the test harness
Checking for what $(SIMD) contains was initially right, but already the
addition of $(FMA) wasn't. Later categories (correctly) weren't added.
Instead what is of interest is anything the main harness source file
uses outside of suitable #if and without resorting to .byte, as that's
the one file (containing actual tests) which has to succeed in building.
The auxiliary binary blobs we utilize may fail to build; the resulting
empty blobs are recognized and reported as "n/a" when the harness is
run.

Note that strictly speaking we'd need to probe the assembler. We assume
that a compiler knowing of a certain ISA extension is backed by an
equally capable assembler.

Andrew Cooper d9fe459ffa x86/cpu-policy: Infrastructure for MSR_ARCH_CAPS
Bits through 24 are already defined, meaning that we're not far off needing
the second word. Put both in right away.

As both halves are present now, the arch_caps field is full width. Adjust the
unit test, which notices.

The bool bitfield names in the arch_caps union are unused, and somewhat out of
date. They'll shortly be automatically generated.

Add CPUID and MSR prefixes to the ./xen-cpuid verbose output, now that there
are a mix of the two.
