If the end of one enum is the `type' line for the next enum, we would
not notice it.
Fix this by reordering the code, and getting rid of the else: now if
the "we are within an enum" branch decides that it's the end of the
enum, it unsets $ei and we then immediately process the line as a "not
within an enum" line - ie as the start of the next one.

./configure takes a PYTHON=... argument. You can use this to specify
the python interpreter. However, for no good reason, it expects an
absolute path.
Fix this. The new logic is:
* if not set, default to `python'
* if not absolute, look it up with type -p
* split into directory and executable name
The results in config/Tools.mk (which contains @PYTHON@ and
@PYTHONPATH@) are identical for both
./configure
./configure PYTHON=/usr/bin/python
so I assert this has no functional change except that now you can say
./configure PYTHON=python
In particular you can now say
./configure PYTHON=python2
./configure PYTHON=python3
The latter is useful if you want python3 (which should probably be the
default, but does not work right now). The former is useful if you
want python2 but your distro has foolishly made "python" refer to
python3.

In d290e32517
"build system: don't let install-stubdom depend on install-tools"
the dependency of install-stubdom on install-tools was removed.
However, this was not correct. stubdom/Makefile contains this:
$(XEN_ROOT)/tools/qemu-xen-traditional-dir:
$(MAKE) DESTDIR= -C $(XEN_ROOT)/tools qemu-xen-traditional-dir-find
As I have written before:
With recursive make, it is necessary for the overall structure of the
makefiles to sequence things so that each directory is entered exactly
once, before its dependent directories are entered. (It is possible
to violate this rule without creating races but it is tricky and
inadvisable.)
Since d290e32517, it can happen that the command for the
qemu-xen-traditional-dir-find rule is run twice simultaneously - once
as a result of $(MAKE) -C tools install, and once as a result of
$(MAKE) -C stubdom install. If you get unlucky, this causes lossage.
(This just happened to me in an osstest flight.)
In principle we could alternatively fix this by lifting the commands
in the qemu-xen-traditional-dir-find target (and perhaps other things
too) into the toplevel Makefile, as was done for mini-os.
But that seems overkill given how bad the stubdom build system is, and
the fact that we think at some point this qemu-trad will go away
entirely. Adding the tools dependency back to the stubdom build is
by and large good enough.
(Someone who really wants to build stubdom without tools is welcome to
do this separation if they really want to.)

CLONE_NEWIPC was introduced in Linux 2.6.19, on the 29th of November
2006, which was 12 years, 1 month, and 14 days ago.
Nevertheless apparently some people are trying to build Xen on systems
whose kernel headers are that old. Placate these people by providing
a fallback #define for CLONE_NEWIPC.
The actual binary value will of course remain constant, because of the
kernel API promise, so this is and will be correct on all platforms
where the CLONE_NEWIPC is supported. (Even if for some reason we miss
the right #includes.)
Of course at runtime this value will not work on older kernels. It
will be rejected as unknown by anything except some pre-2.6.18
kernels. On those kernels we do not want to support dm_restrict, and
an attempt to use it will fail. It is OK for the failure to be a
messy EINVAL syscall failure. (The IPC namespace unshare is necessary
to avoid a suborned deprivileged qemu from causing trouble with shm,
sem, etc.)
On the very old kernels, the feature is totally out of scope.
(We are only interested, here, in making the build work, to avoid
blocking people who aren't using this feature.)

The patch file 00cvs is an import of a new upstream version of
grub1 from upstream CVS.
Unfortunately, in the period covered by the update, upstream changed
the documentation licence from a simple permissive licence, to the GNU
"Free Documentation Licence" with Front and Back Cover Texts.
The Debian Project is of the view that use the Front and Back Cover
Texts feature of the GFDL makes the resulting document not Free
Software, because of the mandatory redistribution of these immutable
texts. (Personally, I agree.)
This is awkward because Debian do not want to ship non-free content.
So the Debian maintainers need to launder the upstream source code, to
remove the troublesome files. This is an extra step when
incorporating new upstream versions. It's particularly annoying for
security response, which often involves rebasing onto a new upstream
release.
grub1 is obsolete and the last change to Xen's PV grub1 stubdom code
was in 2016. Furthermore, the grub1 documentation is not built and
installed by the Xen pv-grub stubdom Makefiles.
Therefore, remove all docs changes from stubdom/grub.patches. This
means that there are now no longer any GFDL-licenced grub docs in
xen.git.
There is no user impact, and Debian is helped. This change would
complicate any attempts to update to a new version of upstream grub1,
but it seems unlikely that such a thing will ever happen.

Non-leaf sections with footnotes must have a row of their own, for
just that section, because footnotes only appear if there is status
information.
In that case, the footnote applies to only the rows for that section
in the markdown document, ie that RealSect.
And of course for a leaf section that is true too.
So for footnoes we always want to use a rowspan of the number of
Status elements in the section. So (i) calculate this in

rows including all the subsections', when writing out the footnote

Running text in feature sections in the markdown document currently
might be (i) a caveat, qualifying or clarifying the support statement
(ii) a plain description of the feature.
Caveats can be version-specific and deserve the [*] annotation in the
relevant feature matrix cell. They must link to SUPPORT.html for the
specific version.
Descriptions are not version specific. In that case the [*]
annotation is visusal noise. Rather, it is better to make a hyperlink
out of the text which is being expanded on. The hyperlink can point
to any appropriate version.
There is a question about how to notate this distinction in
SUPPORT.md. After IRL discussion with George and Lars I propose that
we should put text which helps describe a feature (ie, which expands
on a section heading) after the heading but before the Status
indications; whereas, caveats and supplementary information about
the actual status, should follow the Status block.
This patch implements this distinction in the support matrix
generator. Only paragraphs containing _only_ italic content count as
descriptive; anything else is treated as a caveat.
In the code:
* Add a new entry to RealSect, HasDescription
* When parsing, track whether we are before or after the first Status
block in a new variable $has_feature.
* In ri_Para, set HasDescription set to the input document index
when we encounter text before the first feature.
* When writing a `heading' (ie, the table cell for a feature name)
look for HasDescription and make an appropriate hyperlink.

submodules (and could not work properly with them, because this is one
of the many things it is inherently impossible to do correctly with
git submodules).
qemu upstream have worked around this by providing a rather scary
shell script which attempts to do roughly the right thing. It's close
enough that we can use it with only minor precautions.
Unfortunately this does mean that `mktarball' now executes the qemu
source code it was using, rather than merely shuffling it about, as it
did previously. I think this is a less bad ill than copying (and,
effectively, forking) the scary script.

v3: Provide -D option.
This utility reads json format pandoc output, from parsing one or more
SUPPORT.md files, and generates an HTML table element containing the
principal version and feature information.
This is rather hairier than I anticipated when I started out; hence
the 400-odd-line Perl script.
Machinery to assemble the appropriate inputs for parse-support-md
will be in the next commit.

v2: New in this version of the series.
v3: Refactor to introduce RealSect
v3: Add [*] footnote to all applicable entries, not just the last
We are going to want to format SUPPORT.md which does not match the
filename patterns in docs/. So provide a way to make an ad-hoc rule
using pandoc with the standard options.
No functional change in this patch.

This commits (more or less) this file to be processed with pandoc,
rather than other markdown processors. There is, unfortunately, no
widely-accepted way to declare a title for the document.
I tested feeding the document to markdown(1) on Debian jessie and it
reproduced the % line as if it were simple text. I guess many other
markdown processors will do something similarly tolerable. My
internet searches did not discover a markdown processor that used
lines starting with % for something else.

Continuations of bullet list items must be indented by exactly 4
spaces (according to pandoc_markdown(5) on Debian jessie).
This is most easily achieved by making the bullet list items have two
spaces before the `*'.

oxenstored is our default implementation of xenstore, for platforms
that have ocaml support. We need it to be maintained. Dave Scott,
the only existing maintainer, has had limited availability.
Christian has been reveiwing patches and offering opinions where
necessary, although activity in this area has been quiet and there has
not been a great deal of new development.
Christian's contributions have been sensible and I think it would be a
good idea now to formally make him a maintainer.
