Boris Ostrovsky 68823df358 acpi: Re-license ACPI builder files from GPLv2 to LGPLv2.1
ACPI builder is currently distributed under GPLv2 license.

We plan to make the builder available to components other than the
hvmloader (which is also GPLv2). Some of these components (such as
libxl) may be distributed under LGPL-2.1 so that they can be used by
non-GPLv2 callers. But this will not be possible if we incorporate
the ACPI builder in those other components.

To avoid this problem we are relicensing sources in ACPI bulder
directory to the Lesser GNU Public License (LGPL) version 2.1

gpl/mk_dsdt_asl.sh file will remain GPL-only pending permission to
relicense from Lenovo due to commit 801d469ad ("[HVM] ACPI support
patch 3 of 4: ACPI _PRT table."))

Boris Ostrovsky c3397311a6 acpi: Prevent GPL-only code from seeping into non-GPL binaries
Some code (specifically, introduced by commit 801d469ad ("[HVM] ACPI
support patch 3 of 4: ACPI _PRT table.")) has only been licensed under
GPLv2. We want to prevent this code from showing up in non-GPL
binaries which might become possible after we make ACPI builder code
available to users other than hvmloader.

There are two pieces that we need to be careful about:
(1) A small chunk of code in dsdt.asl that implements _PIC method
(2) A chunk of ASL generator in mk_dsdt.c that describes with PCI
    interrupt routing.

This code will now be generated by a GPL-only script which will be
invoked only when ACPI builder's Makefile is called with GPL variable
set.

We also strip license header from generated ASL files to prevent
inadverent use of those files with incorrect license.

Wei Liu 94d3b9990b hvmloader: use bound checking in get_module_entry
Coverity complains:

overflow_before_widen: Potentially overflowing expression

Jan Beulich 0875433389 hvmloader: limit CPUs exposed to guests
Various Linux versions allocate (partial) per-CPU data for all of them,
as there is no indication in MADT whether they're hotpluggable. That's
a little wasteful in terms of resource consumption especially for
- guests with not overly much memory assigned,
- 32-bit guests not having overly much address space available.
Therefore limit what we put into MADT to the "maxvcpus" value, and make
sure AML doesn't touch memory addresses corresponding to CPUs beyond
that value (we can't reasonably make the respective processor objects
disappear).

If the MMIO hole is large and hvmloader needs to relocate memory to

Ian Campbell 3237645813 tools: Do not expose all builds to unstable hypercall APIs by default
Currently __XEN_TOOLS__ is defined in the global CFLAGS used for tools
builds, exposing them all to the various unstable hypercall interfaces.

However there are places where we do not want this (in particular all
the stable libraries now under tools/libs), and there is a risk of
such uses slipping in unnoticed (currently there are none, but I
tripped over the mixed nature of the HVMOPs just now in some new code
I was putting together).

Instead only define __XEN_TOOLS__ for things which explicitly want the
unstable APIs. The vast majority of these are consumers of libxenctrl,
which have opted into unstable interfaces by using libxenctrl already,
so adding -D__XEN_TOOLS__ to CFLAGS_libxenctrl covers these without
needing to patch the dozen or so tools manually.

The libxc build itself, which doesn't use CFLAGS_libxenctrl, now needs
the define too. As does gdbsx's own low level hypercall binding
library xg.

hvmloader no longer needs to undefine the symbol.

The ocaml evtchn bindings don't actually need sysctl.h and therefore
don't actually need __XEN_TOOLS__ either.

qemu-xen-traditional doesn't use CFLAGS_libxenctrl and so we pass the
define there (via --extra-cflags) too.

Having removed __XEN_TOOLS__ replace it with
__XEN_INTERFACE_VERSION__=__XEN_LATEST_INTERFACE_VERSION__ so that in
tree code is always using the latest APIs.

The functions ring_read and ring_write() have logic to try and deal with
partial reads and writes.

However, in all cases where the "while (len)" loop executed twice, data
corruption would occur as the second memcpy() starts from the beginning of
"data" again, rather than from where it got to.

This bug manifested itself as protocol corruption when a reply header crossed
the first wrap of the response ring. However, similar corruption would also
occur if hvmloader observed xenstored performing partial writes of the block
in question, or if hvmloader had to wait for xenstored to make space in either
ring.

Olaf Hering b9245b75bb hvmloader: add knob for fixed SMBIOS date string
To allow reproducible builds of hvmloader introduce a make variable
SMBIOS_REL_DATE=mm/dd/yyyy to provide a fixed date string. Without this
change the hvmloader binary changes with every rebuild.

Wei Liu f9c9b12775 tools: fix "make distclean"
The original rule to target "distclean" in tools/Rules.mk was in effect
"make clean". It should be "make distclean".

However not all Makefiles in subdirectories have distclean target
defined. So this patch also adds a bunch of distclean targets to various
Makefiles. They only depend on clean target and don't have any actions
in most cases.

With the patch applied, following command outputs 0 results:

find tools -name 'Makefile*' -exec grep -L 'distclean' {} \+ \
     | grep -v ocaml | grep -v libfsimage

Ocaml and libfsimage are known to have distclean defined in a dedicated
rules file.

Don Slutz 2d927fc41b x86: hvm: Allow configuration of the size of the mmio_hole.
If you add enough PCI devices then all mmio may not fit below 4G
which may not be the layout the user wanted. This allows you to
increase the below 4G address space that PCI devices can use and
therefore in more cases not have any mmio that is above 4G.

There are real PCI cards that do not support mmio over 4G, so if you
want to emulate them precisely, you may also need to increase the
space below 4G for them. There are drivers for these cards that also
do not work if they have their mmio space mapped above 4G.

This allows growing the MMIO hole to the size needed.

This may help with using pci passthru and HVM.

In the tools this is named mmio_hole_memkb.

David Scott 674ad2be40 xenstore: extend the xenstore ring with a 'closing' signal
Hvmloader uses the xenstore ring and then tries to reset it back
to its initial state before booting the guest. Occasionally xenstored
will read the ring while it is being zeroed and conclude it has
been corrupted. This prevents PV drivers from loading in the guest.

This patch updates the xenstore ring protocol definition, enabling
a server to advertise additional features to the guest. One such feature
is defined: the ability to cleanly reset the ring including the
higher-level protocol, like an enhanced RESET_WATCHES for rings.

This patch implements the ring reconnection features in oxenstored
and hvmloader, fixing the bug.

This patch also defines an 'invalid' xenstore packet type and uses this
to poison the ring over a reconnect. This will make diagnosing this
bug much easier in future.

David Vrabel 9d3946cd9b libxc, libxl, hvmloader: strip out outdated VM generation ID implementation
The VM generation ID support in libxc/libxl was based on a draft
specification which subsequently changed considerably. Remove much of
the code in anticipation of introducing something simpler that
conforms to the current specification from Microsoft.

Switch to using a HVM param (HVM_PARAM_VM_GENERATION_ID_ADDR) instead
of the hvmloader/generation-id-address XenStore key. This simplifies
save/restore since it only needs to transfer the value of this param.

There are no changes to the migration stream format or the public
libxl API.
