Michal Orzel 45c65669bf xen/arm: Fix build issue when CONFIG_PHYS_ADDR_T_32=y
On Arm32, when CONFIG_PHYS_ADDR_T_32 is set, a build failure is observed:
arch/arm/platforms/vexpress.c: In function 'vexpress_smp_init':
arch/arm/platforms/vexpress.c:102:12: error: format '%lx' expects argument of type 'long unsigned int', but argument 2 has type 'long long unsigned int' [-Werror=format=]
  102 | printk("Set SYS_FLAGS to %"PRIpaddr" (%p)\n",

When CONFIG_PHYS_ADDR_T_32 is set, paddr_t is defined as unsigned long.
Commit 96f35de69e dropped __virt_to_maddr() which used paddr_t as a
return type. Without a cast, the expression type is unsigned long long
which causes the issue. Fix it.

Michal Orzel d59699e63d device-tree: bootfdt: Fix build issue when CONFIG_PHYS_ADDR_T_32=y
On Arm32, when CONFIG_PHYS_ADDR_T_32 is set, a build failure is observed:
common/device-tree/bootfdt.c: In function 'build_assertions':
./include/xen/macros.h:47:31: error: static assertion failed: "!(alignof(struct membanks) != 8)"
   47 | #define BUILD_BUG_ON(cond) ({ _Static_assert(!(cond), "!(" #cond ")"); })
      | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~
common/device-tree/bootfdt.c:31:5: note: in expansion of macro 'BUILD_BUG_ON'
   31 |     BUILD_BUG_ON(alignof(struct membanks) != 8);

When CONFIG_PHYS_ADDR_T_32 is set, paddr_t is defined as unsigned long,
therefore the struct membanks alignment is 4B and not 8B. The check is
there to ensure the struct membanks and struct membank, which is a
member of the former, are equally aligned. Therefore modify the check to
compare alignments obtained via alignof not to rely on hardcoded
values.

In the original patch e7a80636f1 ("xen/arm: add cache coloring support

won't remove the function call if it's not static. This assumption is
incorrect as we already rely on DCE for cases like this one. Therefore
drop the stub, that otherwise would be a place potentially prone to

Michal Orzel 89dca886ac arm/domain_build: Make find_unallocated_memory() more generic
At the moment, find_unallocated_memory() is only used to retrieve free
memory ranges for direct mapped domains in order to find extended
regions. It is not generic as it makes assumptions as for the place at
which it's being called (domain memory already allocated, gnttab region
already found) and hardcodes the memory banks to be excluded.

Make the function more generic, so that it can be used for other
purposes whenever there is a need to find free host memory regions (e.g.
upcoming LLC coloring series). Allow passing array with memory banks as a
parameter together with a callback to populate free regions structure,
as the logic may differ depending on the needs.

Add find_host_extended_regions() to be called from make_hypervisor_node()
to contain the logic to find extended regions for domains using host
memory layout that are not permitted to use IOMMU.

Michal Orzel 239b0c8f06 dt-overlay: Ignore nodes that do not have __overlay__ as their subnode
Assumption stated in the comments as if fdt_for_each_subnode() checks
for parent < 0 is utterly wrong. If parent is < 0, node offset is set to
0 (i.e. the very first node in the tree) and the loop's body is executed.
This incorrect assumption causes overlay_node_count() to also count nodes
that do not have __overlay__ as their subnode. The same story goes for
overlay_get_nodes_info(), where we end up requiring each node directly
under root node to have "target-path" set. DTBOs can specify other nodes
including special ones like __symbols__, __fixups__ that can be left to
reduce the number of steps a user needs to do to when it comes to invalid
phandles.

Fix it by adding checks if overlay < 0 after respective calls to
fdt_subnode_offset().

The assumption stated in the comment that the code will never get there
is incorrect. In overlay_get_nodes_info() we manually combine path from
target-path property with the node path by adding '/' as a separator.
This can differ from a path obtained by libfdt due to more advanced
logic used there which can for instance get rid of excessive slashes.
In case of incorrect target-path (e.g. target-path = "//axi"), the
comparison in dt_find_node_by_path_from() can fail triggering the assert
in debug builds.

Michal Orzel f9ce66ea9d docs: fusa: Add Assumption of Use (AOU)
AoU are the assumptions that Xen relies on other components (eg platform
platform, domains) to fulfill its requirements. In our case, platform means
a combination of hardware, firmware and bootloader.

We have defined AoU in the intro.rst and added AoU for the generic
timer.

Also, fixed a requirement to denote that Xen shall **not** expose the
system counter frequency via the "clock-frequency" device tree property.
The reason being the device tree documentation strongly discourages the
use of this peoperty. Further if the "clock-frequency" is exposed, then
it overrides the value programmed in the CNTFRQ_EL0 register.

So, the frequency shall be exposed via the CNTFRQ_EL0 register only and
consequently there is an assumption on the platform to program the
register correctly.

Michal Orzel ef3b4768b3 arm/smmu: Complete SMR masking support
SMR masking support allows deriving a mask either using a 2-cell iommu
specifier (per master) or stream-match-mask SMMU dt property (global
config). Even though the mask is stored in the fwid when adding a
device (in arm_smmu_dt_xlate_generic()), we still set it to 0 when
allocating SMEs (in arm_smmu_master_alloc_smes()). So at the end, we
always ignore the mask when programming SMRn registers. This leads to
SMMU failures. Fix it by completing the support.

A bit of history:
Linux support for SMR allocation was mainly done with:
588888a7399d ("iommu/arm-smmu: Intelligent SMR allocation")
021bb8420d44 ("iommu/arm-smmu: Wire up generic configuration support")

Taking the mask into account in arm_smmu_master_alloc_smes() was added
as part of the second commit, although quite hidden in the thicket of
other changes. We backported only the first patch with: 0435784cc7
("xen/arm: smmuv1: Intelligent SMR allocation") but the changes to take
the mask into account were missed.

Memory node probing is done as part of early_scan_node() that is called

Devicetree Specification v0.4, chapter 3.4, /memory node can only exists
as a top level node. However, Xen incorrectly considers all the nodes with
unit node name "memory" as RAM. This buggy behavior can result in a
failure if there are other nodes in the device tree (at depth >= 2) with
"memory" as unit node name. An example can be a "memory@xxx" node under

Michal Orzel 43c416d0d8 xen/arm: arm64: Add emulation of Debug Data Transfer Registers
Currently, if user enables HVC_DCC config option in Linux, it invokes access
to debug data transfer registers (i.e. DBGDTRTX_EL0 on arm64, DBGDTRTXINT on
arm32). As these registers are not emulated, Xen injects an undefined
exception to the guest and Linux crashes.

To prevent this crash, introduce a partial emulation of DBGDTR[TR]X_EL0
(these registers share the same encoding) as RAZ/WI and MDCCSR_EL0 as TXfull.

Refer ARM DDI 0487J.a ID042523, D19.3.8, DBGDTRTX_EL0
"If TXfull is set to 1, set DTRRX and DTRTX to UNKNOWN".

Thus, any OS is expected to read MDCCSR_EL0 and check for TXfull before
using DBGDTRTX_EL0. Linux does it via hvc_dcc_init() ---> hvc_dcc_check(),
and returns -ENODEV in case TXfull bit is still set after writing a test
character. This way we prevent the guest from making use of HVC DCC as a
console.

Michal Orzel 79519fcfa0 lib{fdt, elf}: move lib{fdt,elf}-temp.o and their deps to $(targets)
At the moment, trying to run xencov read/reset (calling SYSCTL_coverage_op
under the hood) results in a crash. This is due to a profiler trying to
access data in the .init.* sections (libfdt for Arm and libelf for x86)
that are stripped after boot. Normally, the build system compiles any
*.init.o file without COV_FLAGS. However, these two libraries are
handled differently as sections will be renamed to init after linking.

To override COV_FLAGS to empty for these libraries, lib{fdt, elf}.o were
added to nocov-y. This worked until e321576f40 ("xen/build: start using
if_changed") that added lib{fdt,elf}-temp.o and their deps to extra-y.
This way, even though these objects appear as prerequisites of
lib{fdt, elf}.o and the settings should propagate to them, make can also
build them as a prerequisite of __build, in which case COV_FLAGS would
still have the unwanted flags. Fix it by switching to $(targets) instead.

Also, for libfdt, append libfdt.o to nocov-y only if CONFIG_OVERLAY_DTB
is not set. Otherwise, there is no section renaming and we should be able
to run the coverage.

Take an example from commit 1ec3fe1f66 ("xen/arm32: head: Improve

while running on identity mapping:
 - define PRINT_SECT() macro to be able to specify a section for storing
   a string. PRINT() will use .rodata.str and PRINT_ID() - .rodata.idmap.
This is necessary, because when running on identity mapping, the
strings need to be part of the first page that is mapped,
 - move loading a runtime virtual UART address right after enabling MMU
(the corresponding steps repeated in {primary,secondary}_switched are
now consolidated in a single place),
 - move early printk 'hex' string into .rodata.idmap and replace 'adr'

Michal Orzel 190b7f49af xen/arm: page: Avoid pointer overflow on cache clean & invalidate
On Arm32, after cleaning and invalidating the last dcache line of the top
domheap page i.e. VA = 0xfffff000 (as a result of flushing the page to
RAM), we end up adding the value of a dcache line size to the pointer
once again, which results in a pointer arithmetic overflow (with 64B line
size, operation 0xffffffc0 + 0x40 overflows to 0x0). Such behavior is
undefined and given the wide range of compiler versions we support, it is
difficult to determine what could happen in such scenario.

Modify clean_and_invalidate_dcache_va_range() as well as
clean_dcache_va_range() and invalidate_dcache_va_range() due to similarity
of handling to prevent pointer arithmetic overflow. Modify the loops to
use an additional variable to store the index of the next cacheline.
Add an assert to prevent passing a region that wraps around which is
illegal and would end up in a page fault anyway (region 0-2MB is
unmapped). Lastly, return early if size passed is 0.

Note that on Arm64, we don't have this problem given that the max VA
space we support is 48-bits.

of this property is 0 (i.e. by mistake), Xen would continue to work and
use the value from the sysreg instead. The logic is thus incorrect and
results in inconsistency when creating timer node for domUs:
 - libxl domUs: clock_frequency member of struct xen_arch_domainconfig
is set to 0 and libxl ignores setting the "clock-frequency" property,
 - dom0less domUs: "clock-frequency" property is taken from dt_host and
   thus set to 0.

Property "clock-frequency" is used to override the value from sysreg,
so if it is also invalid, there is nothing we can do and we shall panic
to let user know about incorrect setting. Going even further, we operate
under assumption that the frequency must be at least 1KHz (i.e. cpu_khz
not 0) in order for Xen to boot. Therefore, introduce a new helper
validate_timer_frequency() to verify this assumption and use it to check
the frequency obtained either from dt property or from sysreg.

The x86 hypercall ABI really used to have 6-argument hypercalls. V4V, the

However, the 6th arg being %ebp in the 32bit ABI makes it unusable in
practice, because that's the frame pointer in builds with frame pointers

data to be written (i.e. no real FIFO, TXFF/BUSY never set and TXI always
set). This conflicts with the current handling of TXFE bit, which we
always clear and never set on a write path (we happen to set it when we
receive char from serial input due to use of vpl011_data_avail() but this
might never be called). This can lead to issues if a guest driver makes
use of TXFE bit to check for TX transmission completion (such guest could
then wait endlessly). Fix it by keeping TXFE always set to match the
current emulation logic.

Michal Orzel 005e84e695 xen/arm: vpl011: Fix misleading comments
In both vpl011_read_data() and vpl011_read_data_xen(), there is a comment
stating that the guest is expected to read the DR register only if the
TXFE bit of FR register is not set. This is obviously logically wrong and
it should be RXFE (i.e. RX FIFO empty bit set -> nothing to read).

Michal Orzel 08bbc1c02d xen/arm: vpl011: Fix domain_vpl011_init error path
When vgic_reserve_virq() fails and backend is in domain, we should also
free the allocated event channel.

When backend is in Xen and call to xzalloc() returns NULL, there is no
need to call xfree(). This should be done instead on an error path
from vgic_reserve_virq(). Moreover, we should be calling XFREE() to
prevent an extra free in domain_vpl011_deinit().

In order not to repeat the same steps twice, call domain_vpl011_deinit()
on an error path whenever there is more work to do than returning rc.
Since this function can now be called from different places and more
than once, add proper guards, use XFREE() instead of xfree() and move
vgic_free_virq() to it.

Take the opportunity to return -ENOMEM instead of -EINVAL when memory
allocation fails.

Michal Orzel c2581c58be xen/console: skip switching serial input to non existing domains
At the moment, we direct serial input to hardware domain by default.
This does not make any sense when running in true dom0less mode, since
such domain does not exist. As a result, users wishing to write to
an emulated UART of a domU are always forced to execute CTRL-AAA first.
The same issue is when rotating among serial inputs, where we always
have to go through hardware domain case. This problem can be elaborated
further to all the domains that no longer exist.

Modify switch_serial_input() so that we skip switching serial input to
non existing domains. Take the opportunity to define and make use of
macro max_console_rx to make it clear what 'max_init_domid + 1' means
in the console code context. Also, modify call to printk() to use correct
format specifier for unsigned int.

For now, to minimize the required changes and to match the current
behavior with hwdom, the default input goes to the first real domain.
The choice is more or less arbitrary since dom0less domUs are supposedly
equal. This will be handled in the future by adding support in boot time
configuration for marking a specific domain preferred in terms of
directing serial input to.

Michal Orzel e6e92adf47 build: run targets cscope,tags,... using tree-wide approach
Despite being a matter of taste, in general, there are two main approaches
when dealing with code tagging: tree-wide, where all the sources are taken
into account or config-wide, when considering Kconfig options and actually
built files. At the moment, all_sources variable is defined using SUBDIRS,
which lists all the directories except arch/, where only $(TARGET_ARCH)
is taken into account. This makes it difficult to reason about and creates
fuzzy boundaries being a blocker when considering new directories that
might be config-dependent (like crypto/ which is missing in SUBDIRS).

For now, switch to the intermediate solution to list all the directories
in SUBDIRS without exceptions (also include crypto/). This way, the
approach taken is clear allowing new directories to be listed right away
without waiting to fix the infrastructure first. In the future, we can
then add support for config-wide approach.
