Michal Orzel bb9856e5e4 xen/arm: Mitigate TLBI errata on various Arm CPUs
A number of CPUs developed by Arm suffer from errata whereby a broadcast
TLBI + DSB sequence may complete before the global observation of writes
which are translated by an affected TLB entry. This can lead to memory
corruption and potential privilege escalation.

These errata ONLY affect the completion of memory accesses which have
been translated by an invalidated TLB entry, and these errata DO NOT
affect the actual invalidation of TLB entries. TLB entries are removed
correctly.

To mitigate this issue, Arm recommends that software follows each
TLBI+DSB sequence with an additional TLBI+DSB, which will ensure that
all memory write effects affected by the first TLBI have been globally
observed.

The ARM64_WORKAROUND_REPEAT_TLBI workaround is sufficient to mitigate the
issue. Enable this workaround for affected CPUs.

This is XSA-493 / CVE-2025-10263.

Michal Orzel 9fe35345a7 xen/arm64: flushtlb: Optimize ARM64_WORKAROUND_REPEAT_TLBI
The ARM64_WORKAROUND_REPEAT_TLBI workaround is used to mitigate several
errata where broadcast TLBI;DSB sequences don't provide all the
architecturally required synchronization. The workaround performs more
work than necessary, and can have significant overhead. This patch
optimizes the workaround, as explained below.

1. All relevant errata only affect the ordering and/or completion of
memory accesses which have been translated by an invalidated TLB
entry. The actual invalidation of TLB entries is unaffected.

2. The existing workaround is applied to both broadcast and local TLB
invalidation, whereas for all relevant errata it is only necessary to
apply a workaround for broadcast invalidation.

3. The existing workaround replaces every TLBI with a TLBI;DSB;TLBI
sequence, whereas for all relevant errata it is only necessary to
execute a single additional TLBI;DSB sequence after any number of
TLBIs are completed by a DSB.

For example, for a sequence of batched TLBIs:

       TLBI <op1>[, <arg1>]
       TLBI <op2>[, <arg2>]
       TLBI <op3>[, <arg3>]
       DSB ISH

... the existing workaround will expand this to:

       TLBI <op1>[, <arg1>]
       DSB ISH // additional
       TLBI <op1>[, <arg1>] // additional
       TLBI <op2>[, <arg2>]
       DSB ISH // additional
       TLBI <op2>[, <arg2>] // additional
       TLBI <op3>[, <arg3>]
       DSB ISH // additional
       TLBI <op3>[, <arg3>] // additional
       DSB ISH

... whereas it is sufficient to have:

       TLBI <op1>[, <arg1>]
       TLBI <op2>[, <arg2>]
       TLBI <op3>[, <arg3>]
       DSB ISH
       TLBI <opX>[, <argX>] // additional
       DSB ISH // additional

Using a single additional TLBI and DSB at the end of the sequence can
have significantly lower overhead as each DSB which completes a TLBI
must synchronize with other PEs in the system, with potential
performance effects both locally and system-wide.

4. The existing workaround repeats each specific TLBI operation, whereas
for all relevant errata it is sufficient for the additional TLBI to
use *any* operation which will be broadcast, regardless of which
translation regime or stage of translation the operation applies to.

For example, for a single TLBI:

       TLBI ALLE2IS
       DSB ISH

... the existing workaround will expand this to:

       TLBI ALLE2IS
       DSB ISH
       TLBI ALLE2IS // additional
       DSB ISH // additional

... whereas it is sufficient to have:

       TLBI ALLE2IS
       DSB ISH
       TLBI VALE1IS, XZR // additional
       DSB ISH // additional

As the additional TLBI doesn't have to match a specific earlier TLBI,
the additional TLBI can be implemented in separate code, with no
memory of the earlier TLBIs. The additional TLBI can also use a
   cheaper TLBI operation.

5. The existing workaround is applied to both Stage-1 and Stage-2 TLB
invalidation, whereas for all relevant errata it is only necessary to
apply a workaround for Stage-1 invalidation.

Architecturally, TLBI operations which invalidate only Stage-2
information (e.g. IPAS2E1IS) are not required to invalidate TLB
entries which combine information from Stage-1 and Stage-2
translation table entries, and consequently may not complete memory
accesses translated by those combined entries. In these cases,
completion of memory accesses is only guaranteed after subsequent
   invalidation of Stage-1 information (e.g. VMALLE1IS).

Rework the workaround logic as follows:
 - add TLB_HELPER_LOCAL() to be used for local TLB ops without a
   workaround,
 - modify TLB_HELPER() workaround to use tlbi vale2is, xzr as a second
   TLBI,
 - drop TLB_HELPER_VA(). It's used only by __flush_xen_tlb_one_local
which is local and does not need workaround and by
__flush_xen_tlb_one. In the latter case, since it's used in a loop,
we don't need a workaround in the middle. Add __tlb_repeat_sync with
a workaround to be used at the end after DSB and before final ISB,
 - TLBI VALE2IS passing XZR is used as an additional TLBI. While there is
an identity mapping there, it's used very rarely. The performance
impact is therefore negligible. If things change in the future, we
   can revisit the decision.

Michal Orzel 579a622eb4 lib{fdt, elf}: move lib{fdt,elf}-temp.o and their deps to $(targets)
At the moment, trying to run xencov read/reset (calling SYSCTL_coverage_op
under the hood) results in a crash. This is due to a profiler trying to
access data in the .init.* sections (libfdt for Arm and libelf for x86)
that are stripped after boot. Normally, the build system compiles any
*.init.o file without COV_FLAGS. However, these two libraries are
handled differently as sections will be renamed to init after linking.

To override COV_FLAGS to empty for these libraries, lib{fdt, elf}.o were
added to nocov-y. This worked until e321576f40 ("xen/build: start using
if_changed") that added lib{fdt,elf}-temp.o and their deps to extra-y.
This way, even though these objects appear as prerequisites of
lib{fdt, elf}.o and the settings should propagate to them, make can also
build them as a prerequisite of __build, in which case COV_FLAGS would
still have the unwanted flags. Fix it by switching to $(targets) instead.

Also, for libfdt, append libfdt.o to nocov-y only if CONFIG_OVERLAY_DTB
is not set. Otherwise, there is no section renaming and we should be able
to run the coverage.

Michal Orzel a4f3f5a62c xen/arm: page: Avoid pointer overflow on cache clean & invalidate
On Arm32, after cleaning and invalidating the last dcache line of the top
domheap page i.e. VA = 0xfffff000 (as a result of flushing the page to
RAM), we end up adding the value of a dcache line size to the pointer
once again, which results in a pointer arithmetic overflow (with 64B line
size, operation 0xffffffc0 + 0x40 overflows to 0x0). Such behavior is
undefined and given the wide range of compiler versions we support, it is
difficult to determine what could happen in such scenario.

Modify clean_and_invalidate_dcache_va_range() as well as
clean_dcache_va_range() and invalidate_dcache_va_range() due to similarity
of handling to prevent pointer arithmetic overflow. Modify the loops to
use an additional variable to store the index of the next cacheline.
Add an assert to prevent passing a region that wraps around which is
illegal and would end up in a page fault anyway (region 0-2MB is
unmapped). Lastly, return early if size passed is 0.

Note that on Arm64, we don't have this problem given that the max VA
space we support is 48-bits.

Michal Orzel f51c92383b xen/arm: Check return code from recursive calls to scan_pfdt_node()

Michal Orzel 9a5bbb2d34 xen/arm: Validate generic timer frequency
Generic timer dt node property "clock-frequency" (refer Linux dt binding
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/timer/arm,arch_timer.yaml) is used to
override the incorrect value set by firmware in CNTFRQ_EL0. If the value
of this property is 0 (i.e. by mistake), Xen would continue to work and
use the value from the sysreg instead. The logic is thus incorrect and
results in inconsistency when creating timer node for domUs:
 - libxl domUs: clock_frequency member of struct xen_arch_domainconfig
is set to 0 and libxl ignores setting the "clock-frequency" property,
 - dom0less domUs: "clock-frequency" property is taken from dt_host and
   thus set to 0.

Property "clock-frequency" is used to override the value from sysreg,
so if it is also invalid, there is nothing we can do and we shall panic
to let user know about incorrect setting. Going even further, we operate
under assumption that the frequency must be at least 1KHz (i.e. cpu_khz
not 0) in order for Xen to boot. Therefore, introduce a new helper
validate_timer_frequency() to verify this assumption and use it to check
the frequency obtained either from dt property or from sysreg.

The x86 hypercall ABI really used to have 6-argument hypercalls. V4V, the

There are however implementations of this UART that can only handle 32-bit

Introduce new struct pl011 member mmio32 and replace pl011_{read/write}

Follow the same steps that were done for SMMU v1,v2 driver by the commit:

The same restrictions apply, meaning that in order to advertise coherent

are populated before any device assignment and in case of a device being

Michal Orzel c2581c58be xen/console: skip switching serial input to non existing domains
At the moment, we direct serial input to hardware domain by default.
This does not make any sense when running in true dom0less mode, since
such domain does not exist. As a result, users wishing to write to
an emulated UART of a domU are always forced to execute CTRL-AAA first.
The same issue is when rotating among serial inputs, where we always
have to go through hardware domain case. This problem can be elaborated
further to all the domains that no longer exist.

Modify switch_serial_input() so that we skip switching serial input to
non existing domains. Take the opportunity to define and make use of
macro max_console_rx to make it clear what 'max_init_domid + 1' means
in the console code context. Also, modify call to printk() to use correct
format specifier for unsigned int.

For now, to minimize the required changes and to match the current
behavior with hwdom, the default input goes to the first real domain.
The choice is more or less arbitrary since dom0less domUs are supposedly
equal. This will be handled in the future by adding support in boot time
configuration for marking a specific domain preferred in terms of
directing serial input to.

Despite being a matter of taste, in general, there are two main approaches
when dealing with code tagging: tree-wide, where all the sources are taken
into account or config-wide, when considering Kconfig options and actually
built files. At the moment, all_sources variable is defined using SUBDIRS,
which lists all the directories except arch/, where only $(TARGET_ARCH)
is taken into account. This makes it difficult to reason about and creates
fuzzy boundaries being a blocker when considering new directories that
might be config-dependent (like crypto/ which is missing in SUBDIRS).

For now, switch to the intermediate solution to list all the directories
in SUBDIRS without exceptions (also include crypto/). This way, the
approach taken is clear allowing new directories to be listed right away
without waiting to fix the infrastructure first. In the future, we can
then add support for config-wide approach.

Michal Orzel 6d317b10f8 xen/arm: Add support for booting gzip compressed uImages
At the moment, Xen does not support booting gzip compressed uImages.
This is because we are trying to decompress the kernel before probing
the u-boot header. This leads to a failure as the header always appears
at the top of the image (and therefore obscuring the gzip header).

Move the call to kernel_uimage_probe before kernel_decompress and make
the function self-containing by taking the following actions:
 - take a pointer to struct bootmodule as a parameter,
 - check the comp field of a u-boot header to determine compression type,
 - in case of compressed image, call kernel_decompress passing uImage
header size as an offset to gzip header,
 - set up zimage.{kernel_addr,len} accordingly,
 - return -ENOENT in case of a u-boot header not found to distinguish it
amongst other return values and make it the only case for falling
through to try to probe other image types.

Modify kernel_decompress to take an additional parameter being an offset
to a gzip header from start address. This is needed so that a function
can first operate on a region containing actually compressed kernel (in case
of compressed uImage, size of u-boot header is an offset to a gzip header)
and then at the end pass the entire region (as it was before taking an offset
into account) to fw_unreserved_regions for freeing.

This approach avoids splitting the uImage probing into 2 stages (executed
before and after decompression) which otherwise would be necessary to
properly parse header, update boot module start and size before
decompression and update zimage.{kernel_addr,len} afterwards.

Remove the limitation from the booting.txt documentation.

This means that such domains always use the values specified by the Xen

At the moment, we route NS phys timer IRQ to Xen even though it does not
make use of this timer. Xen uses hypervisor timer for itself and the
physical timer is fully emulated, hence there is nothing that can trigger
such IRQ. This means that requesting/releasing IRQ ends up as a deadcode
as it has no impact on the functional behavior, whereas the code within
a handler ends up being unreachable. This is a left over from the early
days when the CNTHP IRQ was buggy on the HW model used for testing and we
had to use the CNTP instead.

Remove the calls to {request/release}_irq for this timer as well as the

 - rename it to htimer_interrupt to reflect its purpose,
 - remove the IRQ affiliation test,

 - improve readability by adding new lines \btw code and comments.

Michal Orzel bd68a5f397 automation: Use custom build jobs when extra config options are needed
Currently, all the arm64 defconfig build jobs, regardless of the
container used, end up building Xen with the extra config options
specified in the main build script (e.g. CONFIG_EXPERT,
CONFIG_STATIC_MEMORY). Because these options are only needed for
specific test jobs, the current behavior of the CI is incorrect
as we add the extra options to all the defconfig builds. This means
that on arm64 there is not a single job performing proper defconfig build.

To fix this issue, add custom build jobs each time there is a need for
building Xen with additional config options. Introduce EXTRA_XEN_CONFIG
variable to be used by these jobs to store the required options. This
variable will be then read by the main build script to modify the .config
file. This will also help users to understand what is needed to run specific
test.

Michal Orzel 36e3f41587 automation: Add a new job for testing boot time cpupools on arm64
Add a new test job qemu-smoke-arm64-gcc-boot-cpupools that will execute
script qemu-smoke-arm64.sh to test boot time cpupools feature.
Enable CONFIG_BOOT_TIME_CPUPOOLS for the arm64 build and add a new test
case in qemu-smoke-arm64.sh that if selected will make use of the
ImageBuilder feature to create cpupool with cpu@1, null scheduler and
assign it to domU. Add a check in dom0 xen.start to see if domU is
assigned a Pool-1 with null scheduler.

Take the opportunity to refactor the qemu-smoke-arm64.sh script as
follows:
 - use domU_check to store the test's commands to be run from domU
 - use dom0_check to store the test's commands to be run from dom0
 - use fdtput instead of sed to perform dtb modifications
 - use more meaningful messages for "passed" variable. This way we can
grep for messages reported either by domU or dom0 and get rid of
assumption that tests can only be run from domU

Michal Orzel e17ca18747 automation: qemu-smoke-arm64: Silence ifconfig error messages
During the ping test, dom1 tries to assign an ip to eth0 in a loop.
Before setting up the network interface by dom0, this results in
printing the following error message several times:
(XEN) DOM1: ifconfig: SIOCSIFADDR: No such device

Silence this by redirecting stderr/stdout to /dev/null as we do not
care about the output and we should not pollute the log file.

After qemu-smoke-arm64 was changed to use kernel 5.19 we end up having

to use kernel 5.19 and remove kernel 5.9 from tests-artifacts.
