Jason Andryuk fc750656aa libxl: Fix libxl__device_pci_reset error messages
Don't use the LOG*D macros. They expect a domid, but "domain" here is
the PCI domain. Hence it is inappropriate for this use.

Make the write error messages uniform with LOGE. errno has the
interesting information while rc is just -1. Drop printing rc and use
LOGE to print errno as text.

The interesting part of a failed write to do_flr is that PCI BDF, so
print that.

Jason Andryuk 9aeb3a20c4 xl/libxl: Add ability to specify SMBIOS strings
hvm_xs_strings.h specifies xenstore entries which can be used to set or
override smbios strings. hvmloader has support for reading them, but
xl/libxl support is not wired up.

Allow specifying the strings with the new xl.cfg option:
smbios=["bios_vendor=Xen Project","system_version=1.0"]

In terms of strings, the SMBIOS specification 3.5 says:
https://www.dmtf.org/sites/default/files/standards/documents/DSP0134_3.5.0.pdf
"""
Strings must be encoded as UTF-8 with no byte order mark (BOM). For
compatibility with older SMBIOS parsers, US-ASCII characters should be
used. NOTE There is no limit on the length of each individual text
string. However, the length of the entire structure table (including all
strings) must be reported in the Structure Table Length field of the
32-bit Structure Table Entry Point (see 5.2.1) and/or the Structure
Table Maximum Size field of the 64-bit Structure Table Entry Point (see
5.2.2).
"""

The strings aren't checked for utf-8 or length. hvmloader has a sanity
check on the overall length.

The libxl_smbios_type enum starts at 1 since otherwise the 0th key is
not printed in the json output.

Andrew Cooper 01e7477d1b x86/shskt: Disable CET-SS on parts susceptible to fractured updates
Refer to Intel SDM Rev 70 (Dec 2022), Vol3 17.2.3 "Supervisor Shadow Stack
Token".

Architecturally, an event delivery which starts in CPL<3 and switches shadow
stack will first validate the Supervisor Shadow Stack Token (setting the busy
bit), then pushes CS/LIP/SSP. One example of this is an NMI interrupting Xen.

Some CPUs suffer from an issue called fracturing, whereby a fault/vmexit/etc
between setting the busy bit and completing the event injection renders the
action non-restartable, because when it comes time to restart, the busy bit is
found to be already set.

This is far more easily encountered under virt, yet it is not the fault of the
hypervisor, nor the fault of the guest kernel. The fault lies somewhere
between the architectural specification, and the uarch behaviour.

Intel have allocated CPUID.7[1].ecx[18] CET_SSS to enumerate that supervisor
shadow stacks are safe to use. Because of how Xen lays out its shadow stacks,
fracturing is not expected to be a problem on native.

Detect this case on boot and default to not using shstk if virtualised.
Specifying `cet=shstk` on the command line will override this heuristic and
enable shadow stacks irrespective.

Anthony PERARD a2a5d091d0 libs/light: Rework targets prerequisites
No need for $(AUTOSRCS), GNU make can generate them as needed when
trying to build them as needed when trying to build the object. Also,
those two AUTOSRCS don't need to be a prerequisite of "all". As for
the "clean" target, those two files are already removed via "_*.c".

We don't need $(AUTOINCS) either:
- As for both _libxl_save_msgs*.h headers, we are adding more
selective dependencies so the headers will still be generated as
  needed.
- "clean" rule already delete the _*.h files, so AUTOINCS aren't needed
  there.

"libxl_internal_json.h" doesn't seems to have ever existed, so the
dependency is removed.

Rework objects prerequisites, to have them dependents on either
"libxl.h" or "libxl_internal.h". "libxl.h" is not normally included
directly in the source code as "libxl_internal.h" is used instead, but
we have "libxl.h" as prerequisite of "libxl_internal.h", so generated
headers will still be generated as needed.

Make doesn't need "libxl.h" to generate "testidl.c", "libxl.h" is only
needed later when building "testidl.o". This avoid the need to
regenerate "testidl.c" when only "libxl.h" changed. Also use automatic
variables $< and $@.

Anthony PERARD 98d95437ed libs: Fix auto-generation of version-script for unstable libs
When there isn't a version-script for a shared library (like for
unstable libs), we create one based on the current Xen version. But
that version-script became out-of-date as soon as Xen's version
changes and make as no way to regenerate the version-script on
rebuild.

For unstable libs, we only needs the symver to be different from a
previous release of Xen. There's an option "--default-symver" which
allow to use the soname as symver and as the soname have the Xen
release version, it will be different for every release. With
--default-symver we don't need to generate a version-script.

But we also need to know if there's already an existing version script
, for that we introduce $(version-script) to be used to point to the
path of the existing script. (Guessing if a version script exist for a
stable library with for example $(wildcard) won't work as a file will
exist when building the library without this patch.)

We don't need the version-script unless we are making the shared
library so it is removed from the "all" target.

Viresh Kumar 43ba5202e2 libxl: add support for generic virtio device
This patch adds basic support for configuring and assisting generic
Virtio backends, which could run in any domain.

An example of domain configuration for mmio based Virtio I2C device is:
virtio = ["type=virtio,device22,transport=mmio"]

To make this work on Arm, allocate Virtio MMIO params (IRQ and memory
region) and pass them to the backend and update guest device-tree to
create a DT node for the Virtio devices.

Add special support for I2C and GPIO devices, which require the
"compatible" DT property to be set, among other device specific
properties. Support for generic virtio devices is also added, which just
need a MMIO node but not any special DT properties, for such devices the
user needs to pass "virtio, device" in the "type" string.

The parsing of generic virtio device configurations will be done in a
separate commit.

I was really hoping to avoid this, but its now too late in the 4.17 freeze and

The in-Xen calculations for assistance capabilities are buggy. For the

as it has proved to be buggy time and time again.

Even after a protracted discussion on what the new API ought to mean, attempts
to apply it to the existing logic have been unsuccessful, proving that the

This commit implements the `XEN_DOMCTL_shadow_op` support in Xen
for Arm. The p2m pages pool size for xl guests is supposed to be
determined by `XEN_DOMCTL_shadow_op`. Hence, this commit:

- Introduces a function `p2m_domctl` and implements the subops
`XEN_DOMCTL_SHADOW_OP_SET_ALLOCATION` and
`XEN_DOMCTL_SHADOW_OP_GET_ALLOCATION` of `XEN_DOMCTL_shadow_op`.

- Adds the `XEN_DOMCTL_SHADOW_OP_SET_ALLOCATION` support in libxl.

Therefore enabling the setting of shadow memory pool size
when creating a guest from xl and getting shadow memory pool size
from Xen.

Note that the `XEN_DOMCTL_shadow_op` added in this commit is only
a dummy op, and the functionality of setting/getting p2m memory pool
size for xl guests will be added in following commits.

by 039a68373c45 ("introduce -audio as a replacement for -soundhw").

Instead we can just add the sound card with "-device", for most option
that "-soundhw" could handle. "-device" is an option that existed
before QEMU 1.0, and could already be used to add audio hardware.

The list of possible option for libxl's "soundhw" is taken the list
from QEMU 7.0.

The list of options for "soundhw" are listed in order of preference in
the manual. The first three (hda, ac97, es1370) are PCI devices and
easy to test on Linux, and the last four are ISA devices which doesn't
seems to work out of the box on linux.

The sound card 'pcspk' isn't listed even if it used to be accepted by
'-soundhw' because QEMU crash when trying to add it to a Xen domain.
Also, it wouldn't work with "-device" might need to be "-machine
pcspk-audiodev=default" instead.

Julien Grall 2128143c11 libxl: Introduce basic virtio-mmio support on Arm
This patch introduces helpers to allocate Virtio MMIO params
(IRQ and memory region) and create specific device node in
the Guest device-tree with allocated params. In order to deal
with multiple Virtio devices, reserve corresponding ranges.
For now, we reserve 1MB for memory regions and 10 SPIs.

As these helpers should be used for every Virtio device attached
to the Guest, call them for Virtio disk(s).

Please note, with statically allocated Virtio IRQs there is
a risk of a clash with a physical IRQs of passthrough devices.
For the first version, it's fine, but we should consider allocating
the Virtio IRQs automatically. Thankfully, we know in advance which
IRQs will be used for passthrough to be able to choose non-clashed
ones.

Oleksandr Tyshchenko 66dd1c62b2 libxl: Add support for Virtio disk configuration
This patch adds basic support for configuring and assisting virtio-mmio
based virtio-disk backend (emulator) which is intended to run out of
Qemu and could be run in any domain.
Although the Virtio block device is quite different from traditional
Xen PV block device (vbd) from the toolstack's point of view:
 - as the frontend is virtio-blk which is not a Xenbus driver, nothing
written to Xenstore are fetched by the frontend currently ("vdev"
is not passed to the frontend). But this might need to be revised
in future, so frontend data might be written to Xenstore in order to
support hotplugging virtio devices or passing the backend domain id
on arch where the device-tree is not available.
 - the ring-ref/event-channel are not used for the backend<->frontend
communication, the proposed IPC for Virtio is IOREQ/DM
it is still a "block device" and ought to be integrated in existing
"disk" handling. So, re-use (and adapt) "disk" parsing/configuration
logic to deal with Virtio devices as well.

For the immediate purpose and an ability to extend that support for
other use-cases in future (Qemu, virtio-pci, etc) perform the following
actions:
- Add new disk backend type (LIBXL_DISK_BACKEND_STANDALONE) and reflect
  that in the configuration
- Introduce new disk "specification" and "transport" fields to struct
libxl_device_disk. Both are written to the Xenstore. The transport
field is only used for the specification "virtio" and it assumes
  only "mmio" value for now.
- Introduce new "specification" option with "xen" communication
  protocol being default value.
- Add new device kind (LIBXL__DEVICE_KIND_VIRTIO_DISK) as current
one (LIBXL__DEVICE_KIND_VBD) doesn't fit into Virtio disk model

An example of domain configuration for Virtio disk:
disk = [ 'phy:/dev/mmcblk0p3, xvda1, backendtype=standalone, specification=virtio']

Nothing has changed for default Xen disk configuration.

Please note, this patch is not enough for virtio-disk to work
on Xen (Arm), as for every Virtio device (including disk) we need
to allocate Virtio MMIO params (IRQ and memory region) and pass
them to the backend, also update Guest device-tree. The subsequent
patch will add these missing bits. For the current patch,
the default "irq" and "base" are just written to the Xenstore.
This is not an ideal splitting, but this way we avoid breaking
the bisectability.

Jane Malalane 2ce11ce249 x86/HVM: allow per-domain usage of hardware virtualized APIC
Introduce a new per-domain creation x86 specific flag to
select whether hardware assisted virtualization should be used for
x{2}APIC.

A per-domain option is added to xl in order to select the usage of
x{2}APIC hardware assisted virtualization, as well as a global
configuration option.

Having all APIC interaction exit to Xen for emulation is slow and can
induce much overhead. Hardware can speed up x{2}APIC by decoding the
APIC access and providing a VM exit with a more specific exit reason
than a regular EPT fault or by altogether avoiding a VM exit.

On the other hand, being able to disable x{2}APIC hardware assisted
virtualization can be useful for testing and debugging purposes.

Note:

- vmx_install_vlapic_mapping doesn't require modifications regardless
of whether the guest has "Virtualize APIC accesses" enabled or not,
i.e., setting the APIC_ACCESS_ADDR VMCS field is fine so long as
virtualize_apic_accesses is supported by the CPU.

- Both per-domain and global assisted_x{2}apic options are not part of
the migration stream, unless explicitly set in the respective
configuration files. Default settings of assisted_x{2}apic done
internally by the toolstack, based on host capabilities at create
time, are not migrated.

Jane Malalane 6b2b9b3405 x86: report Interrupt Controller Virtualization capabilities
Add XEN_SYSCTL_PHYSCAP_X86_ASSISTED_XAPIC and
XEN_SYSCTL_PHYSCAP_X86_ASSISTED_X2APIC to report accelerated xAPIC and
x2APIC, on x86 hardware. This is so that xAPIC and x2APIC virtualization
can subsequently be enabled on a per-domain basis.
No such features are currently implemented on AMD hardware.

HW assisted xAPIC virtualization will be reported if HW, at the
minimum, supports virtualize_apic_accesses as this feature alone means
that an access to the APIC page will cause an APIC-access VM exit. An
APIC-access VM exit provides a VMM with information about the access
causing the VM exit, unlike a regular EPT fault, thus simplifying some
internal handling.

HW assisted x2APIC virtualization will be reported if HW supports
virtualize_x2apic_mode and, at least, either apic_reg_virt or
virtual_intr_delivery. This also means that
sysctl follows the conditionals in vmx_vlapic_msr_changed().

For that purpose, also add an arch-specific "capabilities" parameter
to struct xen_sysctl_physinfo.

Note that this interface is intended to be compatible with AMD so that
AVIC support can be introduced in a future patch. Unlike Intel that
has multiple controls for APIC Virtualization, AMD has one global
'AVIC Enable' control bit, so fine-graining of APIC virtualization
control cannot be done on a common interface.
