Andrew Cooper bd87315a60 tools/tests: Unit test for paging mempool size
Exercise some basic functionality of the new
xc_{get,set}_paging_mempool_size() hypercalls.

This passes on x86, but fails currently on ARM. ARM will be fixed up in
future patches.

This is part of XSA-409 / CVE-2022-33747.

Juergen Gross 52daa6a848 xen/gnttab: fix gnttab_acquire_resource()
Commit 9dc46386d8 ("gnttab: work around "may be used uninitialized"
warning") was wrong, as vaddrs can legitimately be NULL in case
XENMEM_resource_grant_table_id_status was specified for a grant table
v1. This would result in crashes in debug builds due to
ASSERT_UNREACHABLE() triggering.

Check vaddrs only to be NULL in the rc == 0 case.

Expand the tests in tools/tests/resource to tickle this path, and verify that
using XENMEM_resource_grant_table_id_status on a v1 grant table fails.

Jan Beulich 21b4d45bbf x86emul/test: improve failure location identification for FMA sub-test
When some FMA set of insns is included in the base instruction set (XOP,
AVX512F, and AVX512-FP16 at present), simd_test() simply invokes
fma_test(), negating its return value. In case of a failure this would
yield a value close to 4G, which doesn't lend itself to easy
identification of the failing test case. Recognize the case in
simd_check_regs() and emit alternative output identifying FMA.

For one it was an oversight to leave dup_{hi,lo}() undefined for 512-bit

Andrew Cooper 3667f7f8f7 x86: Introduce support for CET-IBT
CET Indirect Branch Tracking is a hardware feature designed to provide
forward-edge control flow integrity, protecting against jump/call oriented
programming.

IBT requires the placement of endbr{32,64} instructions at the target of every
indirect call/jmp, and every entrypoint.

However, the default -fcf-protection=branch places an endbr{32,64} on every
function which far more than necessary, and reduces the quantity of protection
afforded. Therefore, we use manual placement using the cf_check attribute.

It is necessary to check for both compiler and assembler support, as the
notrack prefix can be emitted in certain cases.

Andrew Cooper 0e6c87b93e Revert "x86/CPUID: shrink max_{,sub}leaf fields according to actual leaf contents"
OSSTest has identified a 3rd regression caused by this change. Migration
between Xen 4.15 and 4.16 on the nocera pair of machines (AMD Opteron 4133)
fails with:

  xc: error: Failed to set CPUID policy: leaf 00000000, subleaf ffffffff, msr ffffffff (22 = Invalid argument): Internal error
  xc: error: Restore failed (22 = Invalid argument): Internal error

which is a safety check to prevent resuming the guest when the CPUID data has
been truncated. The problem is caused by shrinking of the max policies, which
is an ABI that needs handling compatibly between different versions of Xen.

Furthermore, shrinking of the default policies also breaks things in some
cases, because certain cpuid= settings in a VM config file which used to work
will now be refused. Also external toolstacks that attempt to set the CPUID
policy from a featureset might now see some filled leaves not reachable due to
the shrinking done to the default domain policy before applying the
featureset.

This reverts commit 540d911c28, as well as the
partial fix attempt in 81da2b544c (which added
one new case where cpuid= settings might not apply correctly) and restores the
same behaviour as Xen 4.15.

Jan Beulich 722f59d38c x86: make hypervisor build with gcc11
Gcc 11 looks to make incorrect assumptions about valid ranges that
pointers may be used for addressing when they are derived from e.g. a
plain constant. See https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=100680.

Utilize RELOC_HIDE() to work around the issue, which for x86 manifests
in at least
- mpparse.c:efi_check_config(),
- tboot.c:tboot_probe(),
- tboot.c:tboot_gen_frametable_integrity(),
- x86_emulate.c:x86_emulate() (at -O2 only).
The last case is particularly odd not just because it only triggers at
higher optimization levels, but also because it only affects one of at
least three similar constructs. Various "note" diagnostics claim the
valid index range to be [0, 2⁶³-1].

All of the sudden, besides .text and .rodata and alike, an always

to create). I didn't bother waiting to see what size the final

Andrew Cooper ec6c5d3998 tools/tests: Drop obsolete running scripts
The python unit tests were dropped in Xen 4.12 due to being obsolete, but the
scripts to run the tests were missed. Clean up .gitignore as well.

Also drop the libxenctrl {C,LD}FLAGS adjustments in the Makefile. This logic
isn't used, and isn't appropriate even in principle, as there are tests in
here which don't want to use libxenctrl.

Jan Beulich 6ca70821b5 x86emul: increase FPU save area in test harness/fuzzer
Running them on a system (or emulator) with AMX support requires this
to be quite a bit larger than 8k, to avoid triggering the assert() in
emul_test_init(). Bump all the way up to 16k right away.

Andrew Cooper e32605b07e x86: Begin to introduce support for MSR_ARCH_CAPS
... including serialisation/deserialisation logic and unit tests.

There is no current way to configure this MSR correctly for guests.
The toolstack side this logic needs building, which is far easier to
do with it in place.

IOW just legacy encoded ones. For 3dNow! just one example is used, as
they're all similar in nature both encoding- and operand-wise.

Rename pfx_none to pfx_no, so it can be used to improve readability /
column alignment.

Jan Beulich df8fb11d88 x86emul: adjustments to mem access / write logic testing
The combination of specifying a ModR/M byte with the upper two bits set
and the modrm field set to T is pointless - the same test will be
executed twice, i.e. overall things will be slower for no extra gain. I
can only assume this was a copy-and-paste-without-enough-editing mistake
of mine.

Furthermore adjust the base type of a few bit fields to shrink table
size, as subsequently quite a few new entries will get added to the
tables using this type.
