Julian Vetter 6c6bec2c80 xen/arm: remove XEN_DOMCTL_CONFIG_GIC_NATIVE from the ABI
Now that the toolstack always resolves a concrete GIC_V2 or GIC_V3
before calling createdomain, nothing on the Xen side needs to resolve
GIC_NATIVE either:

 * A new gic_domctl_hw_version() helper returns the
   XEN_DOMCTL_CONFIG_GIC_* value matching the host's gic_hw_version().
 * arch_sanitise_domain_config() uses it to validate the requested
version against the hardware, rather than resolving GIC_NATIVE and
writing the result back into config->arch.gic_version. A guest must
use the host's GIC version, except that a GICv3 host with the GICv2
compatibility mode enabled may also run GICv2 guests. This is the
same information that XEN_SYSCTL_physinfo reports to the toolstack.
 * create_dom0() and arch_parse_dom0less_node(), which both always want
a vGIC that exactly matches the hardware, use the same helper instead
   of GIC_NATIVE.

With nothing left resolving or relying on it, drop
XEN_DOMCTL_CONFIG_GIC_NATIVE from the public ABI. Every caller must now
request a concrete GIC_V2 or GIC_V3.

This is an incompatible change for any toolstack still passing 0
(formerly GIC_NATIVE) expecting Xen to auto-select a version. Add a
CHANGELOG.md entry, noting that available GIC versions can be queried
via XEN_SYSCTL_physinfo.

Jan Beulich 3845d3854d x86/domctl: don't imply I/O port permissions from I/O port mapping
Rather than granting permissions when mapping (an operation that DM-s are
allowed to carry out, while they can't invoke ioport-permission), check
whether permissions actually were granted when adding a mapping. This then
also allows relaxing the necessary locking.

While no longer granting permissions upon mapping is "only" at risk of
breaking guests, no longer revoking permissions upon unmapping strictly
requires callers to additionally invoke XEN_DOMCTL_ioport_permission. Or
else a security issue would arise. In-tree code already does so.

While there switch to using %pd in the two log messages.

Andrew Cooper 7702e782f3 xen/kexec: Drop the obsolete v1 hypercall implementation
The v1 interface was declared obsolete in Xen 4.4 (2013) when kexec in Xen was
overhauled.

The only known user of the v1 interface was the classic-xen fork of Linux.
Linux PVOps does not interact with Xen kexec directly, delegating it entirely
to userspace (i.e. kexec-tools). Xen support in kexec-tools was part of this
work, and uses the "new" interface.

As such, there's no sensible way to test changes to the old interface any
more.

Andrew Cooper 50a21ee067 tools: Fix fallout from DOMID_ANY ABI breakage
Commit 23e2479ff9 ("xen/domain: introduce DOMID_ANY") broke at least:

 * xenstored domains
 * The Python bindings
 * The Ocaml bindings (i.e XAPI, and therefore XenServer/XCP-ng)

by causing Xen to reject 0 (the wildcard sentinel since the start of Xen) and
DOMID_INVALID (since 4.21) without adjusting the callers of xc_domain_create().

Under other circumstances I'd revert, but xenstored has gained a dependent use
of DOMID_ANY.

Fix up the remaining in-tree callers of xc_domain_create(), which covers
init-xenstore-domain and the python bindings.

The Ocaml C bindings, like libxc itself, expose this ABI detail to their
caller, but in this case the caller is still internal to the bindings as a
whole. Adjust the default value in the internal transformation, adding
domid_any for legibility.

Leave a very clear message in CHANGELOG.md that all external callers need
altering.

This hypercall is an addition of mine from commit 67528a3f06 ("x86/cpu:

In order to reuse the AMD levelling infrasturcture for boot time quirks,
levelling_caps is going to have to change. While it's probably safe to expose

Roger Pau Monne c5c45bcbd6 pdx: introduce a new compression algorithm based on region offsets
With the appearance of Intel Sierra Forest and Granite Rapids it's now
possible to get a production x86 host with the following memory map:

SRAT: Node 0 PXM 0 [0000000000000000, 000000007fffffff]
SRAT: Node 0 PXM 0 [0000000100000000, 000000807fffffff]
SRAT: Node 1 PXM 1 [0000063e80000000, 000006be7fffffff]
SRAT: Node 2 PXM 2 [00000c7e80000000, 00000cfe7fffffff]
SRAT: Node 3 PXM 3 [000012be80000000, 0000133e7fffffff]

This is from a four socket Granite Rapids system, with each node having
512GB of memory. The total amount of RAM on the system is 2TB, but without
enabling CONFIG_BIGMEM the last range is not accessible, as it's above the
16TB boundary covered by the frame table. Sierra Forest and Granite Rapids
are socket compatible, however Sierra Forest only supports 2 socket
configurations, while Granite Rapids can go up to 8 sockets.

Note that while the memory map is very sparse, it couldn't be compressed
using the current PDX_MASK compression algorithm, which relies on all
ranges having a shared zeroed region of bits that can be removed.

The memory map presented above has the property of all regions being
similarly spaced between each other, and all having also a similar size.
Use a lookup table to store the offsets to translate from/to PFN and PDX
spaces. Such table is indexed based on the input PFN or PDX to translated.
The example PFN layout about would get compressed using the following:

PFN compression using PFN lookup table shift 29 and PDX region size 0x10000000
 range 0 [0000000000000, 0x0000807ffff] PFN IDX 0 : 0000000000000
 range 1 [0x00063e80000, 0x0006be7ffff] PFN IDX 3 : 0x00053e80000
 range 2 [0x000c7e80000, 0x000cfe7ffff] PFN IDX 6 : 0x000a7e80000
 range 3 [0x0012be80000, 0x00133e7ffff] PFN IDX 9 : 0x000fbe80000

Note how the tow ranges belonging to node 0 get merged into a single PDX
region by the compression algorithm.

The default size of lookup tables currently set in Kconfig is 64 entries,
and the example memory map consumes 10 entries. Such memory map is from a
4 socket Granite Rapids host, which in theory supports up to 8 sockets
according to Intel documentation. Assuming the layout of a 8 socket system
is similar to the 4 socket one, it would require 21 lookup table entries to
support it, way below the current default of 64 entries.

The valid range of lookup table size is currently restricted from 1 to 512
elements in Kconfig.

An extra array is used to keep track of the base PFN for each translated
range. Non used slots are set to ~0UL, so that in mfn_valid() the mfn <
base check always fails, thus reporting the mfn as invalid.

Introduce __init_or_pdx_mask and use it on some shared functions between
PDX mask and offset compression, as otherwise some code becomes unreachable
after boot if PDX offset compression is used. Mark the code as __init in
that case, so it's pruned after boot.

MMIO BAR is used by some guests (including Linux) as a safe place to map
foreign memory, including the grant table itself.

Traditionally BARs from devices have the uncacheable (UC) cache attribute
from the MTRR, to ensure correct functionality of such devices. hvmloader
mimics this behavior and sets the MTRR attributes of both the low and high
PCI MMIO windows (where BARs of PCI devices reside) as UC in MTRR.

This however causes performance issues for users of the Xen platform PCI
device BAR, as for the purposes of mapping remote memory there's no need to
use the UC attribute. On Intel systems this is worked around by using
iPAT, that allows the hypervisor to force the effective cache attribute of
a p2m entry regardless of the guest PAT value. AMD however doesn't have an
equivalent of iPAT, and guest PAT values are always considered.

Linux commit:

41925b105e34 xen: replace xen_remap() with memremap()

Attempted to mitigate this by forcing mappings of the grant-table to use
the write-back (WB) cache attribute. However Linux memremap() takes MTRRs
into account to calculate which PAT type to use, and seeing the MTRR cache
attribute for the region being UC the PAT also ends up as UC, regardless of
the caller having requested WB.

As a workaround to allow current Linux to map the grant-table as WB using
memremap() introduce an xl.cfg option (xen_platform_pci_bar_uc=0) that can
be used to select whether the Xen platform PCI device BAR will have the UC
attribute in MTRR. Such workaround in hvmloader should also be paired with
a fix for Linux so it attempts to change the MTRR of the Xen platform PCI
device BAR to WB by itself.

Overall, the long term solution would be to provide the guest with a safe
range in the guest physical address space where mappings to foreign pages
can be created.

Some vif throughput performance figures provided by Anthoine from a 8
vCPUs, 4GB of RAM HVM guest(s) running on AMD hardware:

Without this patch:
vm -> dom0: 1.1Gb/s
vm -> vm:   5.0Gb/s

With the patch:
vm -> dom0: 4.5Gb/s
vm -> vm:   7.0Gb/s

Roger Pau Monne 5642a6055c x86/gnttab: do not implement GNTTABOP_cache_flush
The current underlying implementation of GNTTABOP_cache_flush on x86 won't
work as expected. The provided {clean,invalidate}_dcache_va_range()
helpers only do a local pCPU cache flush, so the cache of previous pCPUs
where the vCPU might have run are not flushed.

However instead of attempting to fix this, make the GNTTABOP_cache_flush
operation only available to ARM. There are no known users on x86, the
implementation is broken, and other architectures don't have grant-table
support yet.

With that operation not implemented on x86, the related
{clean,invalidate}_dcache_va_range() helpers can also be removed.

Roger Pau Monne 2d779cabdd x86/hvm: reduce the need to flush caches in memory_type_changed()
The current cache flushing done in memory_type_changed() is too wide, and
this doesn't scale on boxes with high number of CPUs. Attempt to limit
cache flushes as a result of p2m type changes, and only do them if:

 * The CPU doesn't support (or has broken) self-snoop capability, otherwise
there would be leftover aliases in the cache. For guest initiated
memory changes (like changes to MTRRs) the guest should already do a
   cache flush.
 * The IOMMU cannot force all DMA accesses to be snooping ones.

Jiqian Chen 6ce1066599 vpci: Add resizable bar support
Some devices, like AMDGPU, support resizable bar capability,
but vpci of Xen doesn't support this feature, so they fail
to resize bars and then cause probing failure.

According to PCIe spec, each bar that supports resizing has
two registers, PCI_REBAR_CAP and PCI_REBAR_CTRL. So, add
handlers to support resizing the size of BARs.

Note that Xen will only trap PCI_REBAR_CTRL, as PCI_REBAR_CAP
is read-only register and the hardware domain already gets
access to it without needing any setup.

Roger Pau Monne 104591f5dd x86/dom0: attempt to fixup p2m page-faults for PVH dom0
When building a PVH dom0 Xen attempts to map all (relevant) MMIO regions
into the p2m for dom0 access. However the information Xen has about the
host memory map is limited. Xen doesn't have access to any resources
described in ACPI dynamic tables, and hence the p2m mappings provided might
not be complete.

PV doesn't suffer from this issue because a PV dom0 is capable of mapping
into it's page-tables any address not explicitly banned in d->iomem_caps.

Introduce a new command line options that allows Xen to attempt to fixup
the p2m page-faults, by creating p2m identity maps in response to p2m
page-faults.

This is aimed as a workaround to small ACPI regions Xen doesn't know about.
Note that missing large MMIO regions mapped in this way will lead to
slowness due to the VM exit processing, plus the mappings will always use
small pages.

The ultimate aim is to attempt to bring better parity with a classic PV
dom0.

Note such fixup rely on the CPU doing the access to the unpopulated
address. If the access is attempted from a device instead there's no
possible way to fixup, as IOMMU page-fault are asynchronous.
