Roger Pau Monne 23cb1f8f8d x86/pod: do not reclaim special pages for PoD cache
When doing PoD cache reclaim as part of a decrease reservation call, avoid
reclaiming special pages for the PoD cache. Otherwise such pages get moved
from the domain ->xenpage_list to the ->page_list, while still being
referenced in ->shared_info domain field.

Prevent PoD cache from reclaiming special pages, as nothing good can come
out of it.

This is XSA-507 / CVE-2026-62434.

Roger Pau Monne 4de4c5cde7 xen/dmop: check number of input buffers
The hypercall requires at least one input buffer, as both arch-specific
implementations of dm_op() unconditionally assume ->buf[0] to be valid (and
not stack rubble).

Additionally, XEN_DMOP_modified_memory requires two input buffers, yet the
code was assuming the second buffer to always be provided by the user when
checking for the number of extents. In case the caller sets nr_bufs to 1,
the code in modified_memory() will read stack garbage as the size of the
buffer, thus allowing the caller some degree of insight on the contents of
the stack by probing whether the hypercall returns -EINVAL or -EFAULT as a
result of such bogus call.

This is XSA-506 / CVE-2026-62433.

Roger Pau Monne 07f3beb32f x86/mm: accurately track which vCPU page-tables are loaded
Neither current nor curr_vcpu per-CPU fields accurately track which
page-tables are loaded. There are corner cases when dealing with shadow
paging failures that switch to the idle vCPU page-tables without changing
current or curr_vcpu per-CPU fields.

Introduce a new per-CPU field that attempts to track which vCPU page-tables
are loaded. Update such tracking when cr3 is changed, and do so in a
region with interrupts disabled, as to avoid handling interrupts with a
mismatch between the vCPU tracking field and the loaded page-tables.

As a result of this newly more accurate tracking the mapcache override
functionality can be removed: the dom0 PV builder was the only user of it,
and it's updated here to properly signal which vCPU page-tables are loaded
in the calls to switch_cr3_cr4().

Note the EFI page-tables have the Xen owned L4 slots copied from the idle
page-tables, so for the effects of the mapcache the EFI page-tables could
use the idle mapcache if it had one. Pass the idle vCPU in the
switch_cr3_cr4() call that switches to the runtime EFI page-tables.

There are known issues with the use of mapcache in NMI context.  This patch
does not alter the behaviour.

Roger Pau Monné d4775257e3 x86/spec-ctrl: Fix incomplete IBPB flushing during context switch
The previous logic attempted to skip an IBPB in the case of vCPU returning to
a CPU on which it was the previous vCPU to run. While safe for Xen's
isolation between vCPUs, this prevents the guest kernel correctly isolation
between tasks.  Consider:

 1) vCPU runs on CPU A, running task 1.
 2) vCPU moves to CPU B, idle gets scheduled on A. Xen skips IBPB.
 3) On CPU B, guest kernel switches from task 1 to 2, issuing IBPB.
 4) vCPU moves back to CPU A. Xen skips IBPB again.

Now, task 2 is running on CPU A with task 1's training still in the BTB.

Do the flush unconditionally when switching to a vCPU different than the
idle one. Note there's no need to explicitly gate the IBPB to next domain
!= idle, as the context where the IBPB is issued is subject to that
condition already unless the pCPU is going offline, at which point we don't
really care to issue an extra IBPB.

Also add a comment with the reasoning why the IBPB needs to be in
context_switch() rather than __context_switch().

Roger Pau Monné 2102093e08 x86/viridian: protect concurrent modification of the reference TSC page
The reference TSC page is shared between all vCPUs, and the data stored in
the domain struct. However the handlers to set and clear it are not safe
against concurrent accesses. It's possible for two (or more) vCPUs to call
HV_X64_MSR_REFERENCE_TSC at the same time and cause the in-use reference
TSC page to be freed, while still being on the p2m. This creates a use-
after-free bug, where the page can end up mapped in another domain or used
by Xen while still being part of the original domain's p2m.

It's also possible to underflow the reference counter, as multiple
concurrent writes to HV_X64_MSR_REFERENCE_TSC can create an imbalance on
the number of put_page_and_type() calls.

Introduce a lock to protect the reference TSC domain field, thus
serializing concurrent vCPU accesses.

Roger Pau Monné 51190865a4 x86/suspend: unconditionally raise a timer softirq on resume
The current code to restore the timer state on resume is incomplete. While
the local APIC Initial Count Register is saved and restored across
suspension (even if possibly no longer accurate since it's not adjusted to
account for the time spent in suspension), the TSC deadline MSR is not
saved and restored, hence hosts using the TSC deadline timer will likely
get stuck when resuming from suspension.

The lack of restoring of the TSC deadline MSR was mitigated by the raising
of a timer softirq in mwait_idle_with_hints() if the timer had expired,
previous to commit 3faf0866a3, which removed
that logic.

This patch fixes the usage of the TSC deadline timer with suspension, by
unconditionally raising a timer softirq on resume, that will take care of
rearming the hardware timer. Given that a timer softirq will be
unconditionally risen, there's no need to save and restore the APIC Initial
Count Register anymore either.

Note that secondary processors don't need this special treatment when
resuming, since they are offlined before suspension and brought back up
during resume, the first timer that gets setup will trigger a timer softirq
unconditionally, for example from sched_migrate_timers() that gets called
for each secondary processor.

Roger Pau Monné 562af755b1 x86/pv: fix MMUEXT_FLUSH_CACHE to flush all pCPU caches
The implementation of MMUEXT_FLUSH_CACHE is bogus, as it doesn't account to

Fix this by resorting to use the same logic as MMUEXT_FLUSH_CACHE_GLOBAL,
which will be correct in all cases.

Adjust MMUEXT_FLUSH_CACHE_GLOBAL return code in case cache flush is not
permitted for the domain to use -EACCES instead of -EINVAL, as that's more
accurate and also matches the error code used by MMUEXT_FLUSH_CACHE.

It's unclear why -N is being used in the first place. It was added by

When building a PE image it's actually detrimental to forcefully set the

> does not conform to the format specification published by Microsoft.

Roger Pau Monné 0103cb6c1f x86/vmx: fix posted interrupts usage of msi_desc->msg field
The current usage of msi_desc->msg in vmx_pi_update_irte() will make the
field contain a translated MSI message, instead of the expected
untranslated one. This breaks dump_msi(), that use the data in
msi_desc->msg to print the interrupt details.

Fix this by introducing a dummy local msi_msg, and use it with
iommu_update_ire_from_msi(). vmx_pi_update_irte() relies on the MSI
message not changing, so there's no need to propagate the resulting msi_msg
to the hardware, and the contents can be ignored.

Additionally add a comment to clarify that msi_desc->msg must always
contain the untranslated MSI message.

Xen currently prevents dom0 from creating CPU or IOMMU page-table mappings
into the interrupt address range [0xfee00000, 0xfeefffff]. This range has
two different purposes. For accesses from the CPU is contains the default
position of local APIC page at 0xfee00000. For accesses from devices
it's the MSI address range, so the address field in the MSI entries
(usually) point to an address on that range to trigger an interrupt.

There are reports of Lenovo Thinkpad devices placing what seems to be the
UCSI shared mailbox at address 0xfeec2000 in the interrupt address range.
Attempting to use that device with a Linux PV dom0 leads to an error when
Linux kernel maps 0xfeec2000:

Remove the restrictions to create mappings in the interrupt address range
for dom0. Note that the restriction to map the local APIC page is enforced
separately, and that continues to be present. Additionally make sure the
emulated local APIC page is also not mapped, in case dom0 is using it.

Note that even if the interrupt address range entries are populated in the
IOMMU page-tables no device access will reach those pages. Device accesses
to the Interrupt Address Range will always be converted into Interrupt
Messages and are not subject to DMA remapping.

There's also the following restriction noted in Intel VT-d:

> Software must not program paging-structure entries to remap any address to
> the interrupt address range. Untranslated requests and translation requests
> that result in an address in the interrupt range will be blocked with
> condition code LGN.4 or SGN.8. Translated requests with an address in the
> interrupt address range are treated as Unsupported Request (UR).

Similarly for AMD-Vi:

> Accesses to the interrupt address range (Table 3) are defined to go through
> the interrupt remapping portion of the IOMMU and not through address
> translation processing. Therefore, when a transaction is being processed as
> an interrupt remapping operation, the transaction attribute of
> pretranslated or untranslated is ignored.
>
> Software Note: The IOMMU should
> not be configured such that an address translation results in a special
> address such as the interrupt address range.

However those restrictions don't apply to the identity mappings possibly
created for dom0, since the interrupt address range is never subject to DMA
remapping, and hence there's no output address after translation that
belongs to the interrupt address range.

Roger Pau Monné afce3802a7 iommu/amd: atomically update IRTE
Either when using a 32bit Interrupt Remapping Entry or a 128bit one update
the entry atomically, by using cmpxchg unconditionally as IOMMU depends on
it. No longer disable the entry by setting RemapEn = 0 ahead of updating
it. As a consequence of not toggling RemapEn ahead of the update the
Interrupt Remapping Table needs to be flushed after the entry update.

This avoids a window where the IRTE has RemapEn = 0, which can lead to
IO_PAGE_FAULT if the underlying interrupt source is not masked.

There's no guidance in AMD-Vi specification about how IRTE update should be
performed as opposed to DTE updating which has specific guidance. However
DTE updating claims that reads will always be at least 128bits in size, and
hence for the purposes here assume that reads and caching of the IRTE
entries in either 32 or 128 bit format will be done atomically from
the IOMMU.

Note that as part of introducing a new raw128 field in the IRTE struct, the
current raw field is renamed to raw64 to explicitly contain the size in the
field name.

required even when there's a preceding iommu_crash_shutdown() call; the

Roger Pau Monné 79116ff8bb x86/shutdown: offline APs with interrupts disabled on all CPUs
The current shutdown logic in smp_send_stop() will disable the APs while
having interrupts enabled on the BSP or possibly other APs. On AMD systems
this can lead to local APIC errors:

APIC error on CPU0: 00(08), Receive accept error

Such error message can be printed in a loop, thus blocking the system from
rebooting. I assume this loop is created by the error being triggered by
the console interrupt, which is further stirred by the ESR handler
printing to the console.

Intel SDM states:

"Receive Accept Error.

Set when the local APIC detects that the message it received was not
accepted by any APIC on the APIC bus, including itself. Used only on P6
family and Pentium processors."

So the error shouldn't trigger on any Intel CPU supported by Xen.

However AMD doesn't make such claims, and indeed the error is broadcast to
all local APICs when an interrupt targets a CPU that's already offline.

To prevent the error from stalling the shutdown process perform the
disabling of APs and the BSP local APIC with interrupts disabled on all
CPUs in the system, so that by the time interrupts are unmasked on the BSP
the local APIC is already disabled. This can still lead to a spurious:

APIC error on CPU0: 00(00)

As a result of an LVT Error getting injected while interrupts are masked on
the CPU, and the vector only handled after the local APIC is already
disabled. ESR reports 0 because as part of disable_local_APIC() the ESR
register is cleared.

Note the NMI crash path doesn't have such issue, because disabling of APs
and the caller local APIC is already done in the same contiguous region
with interrupts disabled. There's a possible window on the NMI crash path
(nmi_shootdown_cpus()) where some APs might be disabled (and thus
interrupts targeting them raising "Receive accept error") before others APs
have interrupts disabled. However the shutdown NMI will be handled,
regardless of whether the AP is processing a local APIC error, and hence
such interrupts will not cause the shutdown process to get stuck.

Remove the call to fixup_irqs() in smp_send_stop(): it doesn't achieve the
intended goal of moving all interrupts to the BSP anyway. The logic in
fixup_irqs() will move interrupts whose affinity doesn't overlap with the
passed mask, but the movement of interrupts is done to any CPU set in
cpu_online_map. As in the shutdown path fixup_irqs() is called before APs
are cleared from cpu_online_map this leads to interrupts being shuffled
around, but not assigned to the BSP exclusively.

The Fixes tag is more of a guess than a certainty; it's possible the
previous sleep window in fixup_irqs() allowed any in-flight interrupt to be
delivered before APs went offline. However fixup_irqs() was still
incorrectly used, as it didn't (and still doesn't) move all interrupts to
target the provided cpu mask.

for livepatches it's possible to fail to load the livepatch if alternatives
cannot be resolved and continue operating normally.

Relax the BUGs in _apply_alternatives() to instead return an error code. The
caller will figure out whether the failures are fatal and panic.

Print an error message to provide some user-readable information about what
went wrong.

Roger Pau Monné aa057dbd3f xen/livepatch: do Xen build-id check earlier
The check against the expected Xen build ID should be done ahead of attempting
to apply the alternatives contained in the livepatch.

If the CPUID in the alternatives patching data is out of the scope of the
running Xen featureset the BUG() in _apply_alternatives() will trigger thus
bringing the system down. Note the layout of struct alt_instr could also
change between versions. It's also possible for struct exception_table_entry
to have changed format, hence leading to other kind of errors if parsing of the
payload is done ahead of checking if the Xen build-id matches.

Move the Xen build ID check as early as possible. To do so introduce a new
check_xen_buildid() function that parses and checks the Xen build-id before
moving the payload. Since the expected Xen build-id is used early to
detect whether the livepatch payload could be loaded, there's no reason to
store it in the payload struct, as a non-matching Xen build-id won't get the
payload populated in the first place.

Note printing the expected Xen build ID has part of dumping the payload
information is no longer done: all loaded payloads would have Xen build IDs
matching the running Xen, otherwise they would have failed to load.

Roger Pau Monné aff7317d9f xen/livepatch: drop load_addr Elf section field
The Elf loading logic will initially use the `data` section field to stash a
pointer to the temporary loaded data (from the buffer allocated in
livepatch_upload(), which is later relocated and the new pointer stashed in
`load_addr`.

Remove this dual field usage and use an `addr` uniformly. Initially data will
point to the temporary buffer, until relocation happens, at which point the
pointer will be updated to the relocated address.

This avoids leaving a dangling pointer in the `data` field once the temporary
buffer is freed by livepatch_upload().

Note the `addr` field cannot retain the const attribute from the previous

Roger Pau Monné 193126757d x86/io-apic: fix directed EOI when using AMD-Vi interrupt remapping
When using AMD-Vi interrupt remapping the vector field in the IO-APIC RTE is
repurposed to contain part of the offset into the remapping table. Previous to
2ca9fbd739 Xen had logic so that the offset into the interrupt remapping
table would match the vector. Such logic was mandatory for end of interrupt to
work, since the vector field (even when not containing a vector) is used by the
IO-APIC to find for which pin the EOI must be performed.

A simple solution wold be to read the IO-APIC RTE each time an EOI is to be
performed, so the raw value of the vector field can be obtained. However
that's likely to perform poorly. Instead introduce a cache to store the
EOI handles when using interrupt remapping, so that the IO-APIC driver can
translate pins into EOI handles without having to read the IO-APIC RTE entry.
Note that to simplify the logic such cache is used unconditionally when
interrupt remapping is enabled, even if strictly it would only be required
for AMD-Vi.

Roger Pau Monné b9bf85b5fd iommu/amd-vi: do not error if device referenced in IVMD is not behind any IOMMU
IVMD table contains restrictions about memory which must be mandatory assigned
to devices (and which permissions it should use), or memory that should be
never accessible to devices.

Some hardware however contains ranges in IVMD that reference devices outside of
the IVHD tables (in other words, devices not behind any IOMMU). Such mismatch
will cause Xen to fail in register_range_for_device(), ultimately leading to
the IOMMU being disabled, and Xen crashing as x2APIC support might be already
enabled and relying on the IOMMU functionality.

Relax IVMD parsing: allow IVMD blocks to reference devices not assigned to any
IOMMU. It's impossible for Xen to fulfill the requirement in the IVMD block if
the device is not behind any IOMMU, but it's no worse than booting without
IOMMU support, and thus not parsing ACPI IVRS in the first place.

Roger Pau Monné 9cf2b44c8e x86/dpci: do not leak pending interrupts on CPU offline
The current dpci logic relies on a softirq being executed as a side effect of
the cpu_notifier_call_chain() call in the code path that offlines the target
CPU. However the call to cpu_notifier_call_chain() won't trigger any softirq
processing, and even if it did, such processing should be done after all
interrupts have been migrated off the current CPU, otherwise new pending dpci
interrupts could still appear.

Currently the ASSERT() in the cpu callback notifier is fairly easy to trigger
by doing CPU offline from a PVH dom0.

Solve this by instead moving out any dpci interrupts pending processing once
the CPU is dead. This might introduce more latency than attempting to drain
before the CPU is put offline, but it's less complex, and CPU online/offline is
not a common action. Any extra introduced latency should be tolerable.

Roger Pau Monné 834518a8d0 blkif: reconcile protocol specification with in-use implementations
Current blkif implementations (both backends and frontends) have all slight
differences about how they handle the 'sector-size' xenstore node, and how
other fields are derived from this value or hardcoded to be expressed in units
of 512 bytes.

To give some context, this is an excerpt of how different implementations use
the value in 'sector-size' as the base unit for to other fields rather than
just to set the logical sector size of the block device:

                        │ sectors xenbus node │ requests sector_number │ requests {first,last}_sect
────────────────────────┼─────────────────────┼────────────────────────┼───────────────────────────
FreeBSD blk{front,back} │     sector-size     │      sector-size       │           512
────────────────────────┼─────────────────────┼────────────────────────┼───────────────────────────
Linux blk{front,back}   │         512         │          512           │           512
────────────────────────┼─────────────────────┼────────────────────────┼───────────────────────────
QEMU blkback            │     sector-size     │      sector-size       │       sector-size
────────────────────────┼─────────────────────┼────────────────────────┼───────────────────────────
Windows blkfront        │     sector-size     │      sector-size       │       sector-size
────────────────────────┼─────────────────────┼────────────────────────┼───────────────────────────
MiniOS                  │     sector-size     │          512           │           512

An attempt was made by 67e1c050e3 in order to change the base units of the
request fields and the xenstore 'sectors' node. That however only lead to more
confusion, as the specification now clearly diverged from the reference
implementation in Linux. Such change was only implemented for QEMU Qdisk
and Windows PV blkfront.

Partially revert to the state before 67e1c050e3 while adjusting the
documentation for 'sectors' to match what it used to be previous to
2fa701e534:

 * Declare 'feature-large-sector-size' deprecated. Frontends should not expose
   the node, backends should not make decisions based on its presence.

 * Clarify that 'sectors' xenstore node and the requests fields are always in
   512-byte units, like it was previous to 2fa701e534 and 67e1c050e3.

All base units for the fields used in the protocol are 512-byte based, the
xenbus 'sector-size' field is only used to signal the logic block size. When
'sector-size' is greater than 512, blkfront implementations must make sure that
the offsets and sizes (despite being expressed in 512-byte units) are aligned
to the logical block size specified in 'sector-size', otherwise the backend
will fail to process the requests.

This will require changes to some of the frontends and backends in order to
properly support 'sector-size' nodes greater than 512.

Roger Pau Monné d078d0aa86 x86/altcall: fix clang code-gen when using altcall in loop constructs
Yet another clang code generation issue when using altcalls.

The issue this time is with using loop constructs around alternative_{,v}call
instances using parameter types smaller than the register size.

Given the following example code:

static void bar(bool b)
{
    unsigned int i;

    for ( i = 0; i < 10; i++ )
    {
        int ret_;
        register union {
            bool e;
            unsigned long r;
        } di asm("rdi") = { .e = b };
        register unsigned long si asm("rsi");
        register unsigned long dx asm("rdx");
        register unsigned long cx asm("rcx");
        register unsigned long r8 asm("r8");
        register unsigned long r9 asm("r9");
        register unsigned long r10 asm("r10");
        register unsigned long r11 asm("r11");

        asm volatile ( "call %c[addr]"
                       : "+r" (di), "=r" (si), "=r" (dx),
                         "=r" (cx), "=r" (r8), "=r" (r9),
                         "=r" (r10), "=r" (r11), "=a" (ret_)
                       : [addr] "i" (&(func)), "g" (func)
                       : "memory" );
    }
}

See: https://godbolt.org/z/qvxMGd84q

Clang will generate machine code that only resets the low 8 bits of %rdi
between loop calls, leaving the rest of the register possibly containing
garbage from the use of %rdi inside the called function. Note also that clang
doesn't truncate the input parameters at the callee, thus breaking the psABI.

Fix this by turning the `e` element in the anonymous union into an array that
consumes the same space as an unsigned long, as this forces clang to reset the
whole %rdi register instead of just the low 8 bits.

Roger Pau Monné e95d30f9e5 x86/irq: forward pending interrupts to new destination in fixup_irqs()
fixup_irqs() is used to evacuate interrupts from to be offlined CPUs. Given
the CPU is to become offline, the normal migration logic used by Xen where the
vector in the previous target(s) is left configured until the interrupt is
received on the new destination is not suitable.

Instead attempt to do as much as possible in order to prevent loosing
interrupts. If fixup_irqs() is called from the CPU to be offlined (as is
currently the case for CPU hot unplug) attempt to forward pending vectors when
interrupts that target the current CPU are migrated to a different destination.

Additionally, for interrupts that have already been moved from the current CPU
prior to the call to fixup_irqs() but that haven't been delivered to the new
destination (iow: interrupts with move_in_progress set and the current CPU set
in ->arch.old_cpu_mask) also check whether the previous vector is pending and
forward it to the new destination.

This allows us to remove the window with interrupts enabled at the bottom of
fixup_irqs(). Such window wasn't safe anyway: references to the CPU to become
offline are removed from interrupts masks, but the per-CPU vector_irq[] array
is not updated to reflect those changes (as the CPU is going offline anyway).

Roger Pau Monné 3a8f4ec75d x86/irq: handle moving interrupts in _assign_irq_vector()
Currently there's logic in fixup_irqs() that attempts to prevent
_assign_irq_vector() from failing, as fixup_irqs() is required to evacuate all
interrupts from the CPUs not present in the input mask. The current logic in
fixup_irqs() is incomplete, as it doesn't deal with interrupts that have
move_cleanup_count > 0 and a non-empty ->arch.old_cpu_mask field.

Instead of attempting to fixup the interrupt descriptor in fixup_irqs() so that
_assign_irq_vector() cannot fail, introduce logic in _assign_irq_vector()
to deal with interrupts that have either move_{in_progress,cleanup_count} set
and no remaining online CPUs in ->arch.cpu_mask.

If _assign_irq_vector() is requested to move an interrupt in the state
described above, first attempt to see if ->arch.old_cpu_mask contains any valid
CPUs that could be used as fallback, and if that's the case do move the
interrupt back to the previous destination. Note this is easier because the
vector hasn't been released yet, so there's no need to allocate and setup a new
vector on the destination.

Due to the logic in fixup_irqs() that clears offline CPUs from
->arch.old_cpu_mask (and releases the old vector if the mask becomes empty) it
shouldn't be possible to get into _assign_irq_vector() with
->arch.move_{in_progress,cleanup_count} set but no online CPUs in
->arch.old_cpu_mask.

However if ->arch.move_{in_progress,cleanup_count} is set and the interrupt has
also changed affinity, it's possible the members of ->arch.old_cpu_mask are no
longer part of the affinity set, move the interrupt to a different CPU part of
the provided mask and keep the current ->arch.old_{cpu_mask,vector} for the
pending interrupt movement to be completed.

Roger Pau Monné 39a6170c15 x86/irq: deal with old_cpu_mask for interrupts in movement in fixup_irqs()
Given the current logic it's possible for ->arch.old_cpu_mask to get out of
sync: if a CPU set in old_cpu_mask is offlined and then onlined
again without old_cpu_mask having been updated the data in the mask will no
longer be accurate, as when brought back online the CPU will no longer have
old_vector configured to handle the old interrupt source.

If there's an interrupt movement in progress, and the to be offlined CPU (which
is the call context) is in the old_cpu_mask, clear it and update the mask, so
it doesn't contain stale data.

Note that when the system is going down fixup_irqs() will be called by
smp_send_stop() from CPU 0 with a mask with only CPU 0 on it, effectively
asking to move all interrupts to the current caller (CPU 0) which is the only
CPU to remain online. In that case we don't care to migrate interrupts that
are in the process of being moved, as it's likely we won't be able to move all
interrupts to CPU 0 due to vector shortage anyway.

Roger Pau Monné ce0a0cb0a7 x86/irq: limit interrupt movement done by fixup_irqs()
The current check used in fixup_irqs() to decide whether to move around
interrupts is based on the affinity mask, but such mask can have all bits set,
and hence is unlikely to be a subset of the input mask. For example if an
interrupt has an affinity mask of all 1s, any input to fixup_irqs() that's not
an all set CPU mask would cause that interrupt to be shuffled around
unconditionally.

What fixup_irqs() care about is evacuating interrupts from CPUs not set on the
input CPU mask, and for that purpose it should check whether the interrupt is
assigned to a CPU not present in the input mask. Assume that ->arch.cpu_mask
is a subset of the ->affinity mask, and keep the current logic that resets the
->affinity mask if the interrupt has to be shuffled around.

Doing the affinity movement based on ->arch.cpu_mask requires removing the
special handling to ->arch.cpu_mask done for high priority vectors, otherwise
the adjustment done to cpu_mask makes them always skip the CPU interrupt
movement.

While there also adjust the comment as to the purpose of fixup_irqs().

Due to the current rwlock logic, if the CPU calling get_cpu_maps() does

which can be less than the maximum number of vCPUs assigned to the domain.

While the population of the bitmap is done correctly for HVM based on the

Roger Pau Monne fb12e8d8f7 x86/vmx: Add support for virtualize SPEC_CTRL
The feature is defined in the tertiary exec control, and is available starting
from Sapphire Rapids and Alder Lake CPUs.

When enabled, two extra VMCS fields are used: SPEC_CTRL mask and shadow. Bits
set in mask are not allowed to be toggled by the guest (either set or clear)
and the value in the shadow field is the value the guest expects to be in the
SPEC_CTRL register.

By using it the hypervisor can force the value of SPEC_CTRL bits behind the
guest back without having to trap all accesses to SPEC_CTRL, note that no bits
are forced into the guest as part of this patch. It also allows getting rid of
SPEC_CTRL in the guest MSR load list, since the value in the shadow field will

Roger Pau Monné 5382a6a79c xen/livepatch: register livepatch regions when loaded
Currently livepatch regions are registered as virtual regions only after the
livepatch has been applied.

This can lead to issues when using the pre-apply or post-revert hooks, as at
that point the livepatch is not in the virtual regions list. If a livepatch
pre-apply hook contains a WARN() it would trigger an hypervisor crash, as the
code to handle the bug frame won't be able to find the instruction pointer that
triggered the #UD in any of the registered virtual regions, and hence crash.

Fix this by adding the livepatch payloads as virtual regions as soon as loaded,
and only remove them once the payload is unloaded. This requires some changes
to the virtual regions code, as the removal of the virtual regions is no longer
done in stop machine context, and hence an RCU barrier is added in order to
make sure there are no users of the virtual region after it's been removed from
the list.

Roger Pau Monné 19fd9ff998 x86/altcall: use a union as register type for function parameters on clang
The current code for alternative calls uses the caller parameter types as the
types for the register variables that serve as function parameters:

uint8_t foo;
[...]
alternative_call(myfunc, foo);

Would expand roughly into:

register unint8_t a1_ asm("rdi") = foo;
register unsigned long a2_ asm("rsi");
[...]
asm volatile ("call *%c[addr](%%rip)"...);

However with -O2 clang will generate incorrect code, given the following
example:

unsigned int func(uint8_t t)
{
    return t;
}

static void bar(uint8_t b)
{
    int ret_;
    register uint8_t di asm("rdi") = b;
    register unsigned long si asm("rsi");
    register unsigned long dx asm("rdx");
    register unsigned long cx asm("rcx");
    register unsigned long r8 asm("r8");
    register unsigned long r9 asm("r9");
    register unsigned long r10 asm("r10");
    register unsigned long r11 asm("r11");

    asm volatile ( "call %c[addr]"
                   : "+r" (di), "=r" (si), "=r" (dx),
                     "=r" (cx), "=r" (r8), "=r" (r9),
                     "=r" (r10), "=r" (r11), "=a" (ret_)
                   : [addr] "i" (&(func)), "g" (func)
                   : "memory" );
}

void foo(unsigned int a)
{
    bar(a);
}

Clang generates the following assembly code:

func:                                   # @func
        movl    %edi, %eax
        retq
foo:                                    # @foo
        callq   func
        retq

Note the truncation of the unsigned int parameter 'a' of foo() to uint8_t when
passed into bar() is lost. clang doesn't zero extend the parameters in the
callee when required, as the psABI mandates.

The above can be worked around by using a union when defining the register
variables, so that `di` becomes:

register union {
    uint8_t e;
    unsigned long r;
} di asm("rdi") = { .e = b };

Which results in following code generated for `foo()`:

foo:                                    # @foo
        movzbl  %dil, %edi
        callq   func
        retq

So the truncation is not longer lost. Apply such workaround only when built
with clang.

When Architectural Performance Monitoring is available, the PERF_GLOBAL_CTRL
MSR contains per-counter enable bits that is ANDed with the enable bit in the
counter EVNTSEL MSR in order for a PMC counter to be enabled.

So far the watchdog code seems to have relied on the PERF_GLOBAL_CTRL enable
bits being set by default, but at least on some Intel Sapphire and Emerald
Rapids this is no longer the case, and Xen reports:

Testing NMI watchdog on all CPUs: 0 40 stuck

The first CPU on each package is started with PERF_GLOBAL_CTRL zeroed, so PMC0
doesn't start counting when the enable bit in EVNTSEL0 is set, due to the
relevant enable bit in PERF_GLOBAL_CTRL not being set.

Check and adjust PERF_GLOBAL_CTRL during CPU initialization so that all the
general-purpose PMCs are enabled. Doing so brings the state of the package-BSP
PERF_GLOBAL_CTRL in line with the rest of the CPUs on the system.

Roger Pau Monné 637da04812 pci: fail device assignment if phantom functions cannot be assigned
The current behavior is that no error is reported if (some) phantom functions
fail to be assigned during device add or assignment, so the operation succeeds
even if some phantom functions are not correctly setup.

This can lead to devices possibly being successfully assigned to a domU while
some of the device phantom functions are still assigned to dom0. Even when the
device is assigned domIO before being assigned to a domU phantom functions
might fail to be assigned to domIO, and also fail to be assigned to the domU,
leaving them assigned to dom0.

Since the device can generate requests using the IDs of those phantom
functions, given the scenario above a device in such state would be in control
of a domU, but still capable of generating transactions that use a context ID
targeting dom0 owned memory.

Modify device assign in order to attempt to deassign the device if phantom
functions failed to be assigned.

Note that device addition is not modified in the same way, as in that case the
device is assigned to a trusted domain, and hence partial assign can lead to
device malfunction but not a security issue.

Roger Pau Monné 1792d1723b x86/x2apic: introduce a mixed physical/cluster mode
The current implementation of x2APIC requires to either use Cluster Logical or
Physical mode for all interrupts. However the selection of Physical vs Logical
is not done at APIC setup, an APIC can be addressed both in Physical or Logical
destination modes concurrently.

Introduce a new x2APIC mode called Mixed, which uses Logical Cluster mode for
IPIs, and Physical mode for external interrupts, thus attempting to use the
best method for each interrupt type.

Using Physical mode for external interrupts allows more vectors to be used, and
interrupt balancing to be more accurate.

Using Logical Cluster mode for IPIs allows fewer accesses to the ICR register
when sending those, as multiple CPUs can be targeted with a single ICR register
write.

A simple test calling flush_tlb_all() 10000 times on a tight loop on AMD EPYC
9754 with 512 CPUs gives the following figures in nano seconds:

x mixed
+ phys
* cluster
    N Min Max Median Avg Stddev

Difference at 95.0% confidence
	8.81472e+08 +/- 1.46849e+06
	248.774% +/- 0.96566%
	(Student's t, pooled s = 2.05985e+06)
*  11 3.5099276e+08 3.5561459e+08 3.5461234e+08 3.5415668e+08     1415071.9
No difference proven at 95.0% confidence

So Mixed has no difference when compared to Cluster mode, and Physical mode is
248% slower when compared to either Mixed or Cluster modes with a 95%
confidence.

Note that Xen uses Cluster mode by default, and hence is already using the
fastest way for IPI delivery at the cost of reducing the amount of vectors
available system-wide.

Make the newly introduced mode the default one.

Note the printing of the APIC addressing mode done in connect_bsp_APIC() has
been removed, as with the newly introduced mixed mode this would require more
fine grained printing, or else would be incorrect. The addressing mode can
already be derived from the APIC driver in use, which is printed by different
helpers.

Roger Pau Monné 480168fcb3 livepatch: do not use .livepatch.funcs section to store internal state
Currently the livepatch logic inside of Xen will use fields of struct
livepatch_func in order to cache internal state of patched functions. Note
this is a field that is part of the payload, and is loaded as an ELF section
(.livepatch.funcs), taking into account the SHF_* flags in the section
header.

The flags for the .livepatch.funcs section, as set by livepatch-build-tools,
are SHF_ALLOC, which leads to its contents (the array of livepatch_func
structures) being placed in read-only memory:

Section Headers:
  [Nr] Name              Type             Address           Offset
       Size EntSize Flags Link Info Align

This previously went unnoticed, as all writes to the fields of livepatch_func
happen in the critical region that had WP disabled in CR0. After 8676092a0f
however WP is no longer toggled in CR0 for patch application, and only the
hypervisor .text mappings are made write-accessible. That leads to the
following page fault when attempting to apply a livepatch:

Fix this by moving the internal Xen function patching state out of
livepatch_func into an area not allocated as part of the ELF payload. While
there also constify the array of livepatch_func structures in order to prevent
further surprises.

Note there's still one field (old_addr) that gets set during livepatch load. I
consider this fine since the field is read-only after load, and at the point
the field gets set the underlying mapping hasn't been made read-only yet.

Roger Pau Monné fcb1016bbd x86/i8259: do not assume interrupts always target CPU0
Sporadically we have seen the following during AP bringup on AMD platforms
only:

microcode: CPU59 updated from revision 0x830107a to 0x830107a, date = 2023-05-17
microcode: CPU60 updated from revision 0x830104d to 0x830107a, date = 2023-05-17

microcode: CPU61 updated from revision 0x830107a to 0x830107a, date = 2023-05-17

This is similar to the issue raised on Linux commit 36e9e1eab777e, where they
observed i8259 (active) vectors getting delivered to CPUs different than 0.

On AMD or Hygon platforms adjust the target CPU mask of i8259 interrupt
descriptors to contain all possible CPUs, so that APs will reserve the vector
at startup if any legacy IRQ is still delivered through the i8259. Note that
if the IO-APIC takes over those interrupt descriptors the CPU mask will be
reset.

Spurious i8259 interrupt vectors however (IRQ7 and IRQ15) can be injected even
when all i8259 pins are masked, and hence would need to be handled on all CPUs.

Continue to reserve PIC vectors on CPU0 only, but do check for such spurious
interrupts on all CPUs if the vendor is AMD or Hygon. Note that once the
vectors get used by devices detecting PIC spurious interrupts will no longer be
possible, however the device driver should be able to cope with spurious
interrupts. Such PIC spurious interrupts occurring when the vector is in use
by a local APIC routed source will lead to an extra EOI, which might
unintentionally clear a different vector from ISR. Note this is already the
current behavior, so assume it's infrequent enough to not cause real issues.

Finally, adjust the printed message to display the CPU where the spurious
interrupt has been received, so it looks like:

microcode: CPU1 updated from revision 0x830107a to 0x830107a, date = 2023-05-17
